Chapter 506 The Only Person She Couldn't Stop Worrying About (4)
Jessica bit her lip and awkwardly said, "There are so many photos, I can't make the decision alone. We should discuss it together, right?"
James immediately understood her implication, and with a hint of joy in his voice, he tentatively asked, "Should I come pick you up?"
"Mm-hmm."
Jessica responded softly.
After hanging up the phone, John also felt relieved.
He advised, "When you go back, you can't be so willful. If the time is right, reconcile with him. I have a good eye for people, and James is a decent guy. At least, he's sincere towards you."
Soon, James arrived at the Evans' house.
John didn't even invite them to stay for dinner and let them leave.
Now, he just hoped that Jessica would have less and less involvement with the Evans family, so they could avoid any retaliation.
On the way back.
Jessica sat quietly beside him.
While driving, James freed one hand to hold her slightly cool hand in his palm.
He asked gently, "Not angry anymore?"
Jessica sighed slightly and said, "You're right, it's my own incompetence. I can't even save Lily myself, so how can I expect you to do it?"
"Jessica, that's not what I meant."
James regretted his harsh words from the previous night and explained, "What I meant was, the Stewart family's situation is very complicated, and we don't know the inside story, so it's better to stay out of it. If something happened to you, I wouldn't stand by and do nothing. Do you understand?"
Jessica forced a smile and said, "Yes, I understand."
Despite this, Jessica was still preoccupied.
After all, it wasn't just Lily's situation that worried her; John's behavior today puzzled her even more.
Who exactly did John meet this morning?
Why did he change so much after coming back?
She hesitated for a long time before cautiously speaking, "I have another favor to ask you. But if you find it difficult, forget it. I won't argue with you like last night."
James nodded and said, "Go ahead."
Jessica slowly began, "Can you help me find out who my dad met this morning? Or what he did? He went out early and came back looking shaken, like he was scared or something. I'm really worried about him, but he won't tell me anything."
James frowned slightly, his eyes growing distant.
He asked, "Did you tell your dad about Lily?"
Jessica answered truthfully, "Yes, I wanted my dad to help, but it seems he can't do anything either."
James seemed to understand something and said, "Alright, I'll have someone look into it. Don't worry."
"Thank you."
Jessica smiled at him gratefully.
James glanced at her and said, "The wedding photos are ready. When should we remarry? How about we pick a date and go to the city hall to get the certificate first? That way, you'll be mine, and I won't let you get away again."
Jessica placed her hand on her lower abdomen, feeling a faint pain in her heart.
She said softly, "Rose should be almost seven months pregnant by now, right? What are you going to do when she has the baby?"
