Chapter 239 Were You Really Working Late at the Office Yesterday
Jack knew he couldn't compete with James right now, but he worried his visit might make James take it out on Jessica.
"James, I'm just here to say goodbye to Jessica. No need to get so angry," Jack said, trying to stay calm, though his eyes showed his anxiety. "I'm leaving tomorrow, so I won't be a threat. Please, don't make things hard for Jessica. I'm begging you."
James snorted, "Even if you stayed, you wouldn't be a threat. And she's my wife now. You should call her sister-in-law, not Jessica."
Jack's face tightened, but he knew he had no right to argue. Jessica was James's wife now. What right did he have?
Sighing, Jack looked deeply into Jessica's eyes. "I'm leaving. I hope you find happiness."
Jessica stayed silent, watching him walk away. As he got further, James said coldly, "He's almost gone, and you're still watching?"
Jessica turned to James, disappointment washing over her. She looked at him like a stranger, her gaze cold, and walked away.
James frowned, catching up and grabbing her wrist. "Where are you going?" he asked angrily. "Are you so reluctant to part with Jack? You know I don't like you seeing him, so why did you meet him?"
"Let go of me!" Her voice was cold and sharp, her gaze like a knife.
James was startled. "Do you hate me this much just because I sent him to Bangkok?"
"Let me go, James." Jessica's tone was icy, void of emotion. She struggled to hold back her anger and grief. "I don't want to argue with you outside, and I won't waste my energy. You're not worth it!"
James was provoked. He pulled her into the car, slamming the door. "Explain what Jack said to you. Or do you want to go to Bangkok with him?"
They had been fine before this. He didn't understand why Jessica had changed so much after seeing Jack.
Jessica couldn't hold back anymore. She leaned back, closing her eyes, tears streaming down.
Seeing her like this, James was convinced she didn't want to part with Jack. His eyes turned cold, and he sped off. They reached home quickly. James, fuming, dragged her out of the car and into the bedroom.
He shut the door firmly. Without warning, he kissed her urgently, his hands roaming her trembling back.
Jessica didn't resist or respond. She was like a numb puppet, enduring his actions.
James felt her unwillingness and resentment. She used to be shy and sensitive, leaning into his touch. Now, she was stiff and unresponsive.
James couldn't take it anymore. He let go and yelled, "I set aside my work today to come pick you up, and you've been pissed off the whole time. What's going on?"
"And what about yesterday?" Jessica finally looked up, her eyes tear-stained and sorrowful. "Were you really working late at the office?"
