Chapter 555 Always the One Who Is Let Down (1)

Nathan helped Jessica inside, saying, "This is my student. She ran into some trouble. Mom, you should go rest. I'll have the maid set up a guest room for her."

Kennedy looked worried. "It's freezing out there, and she's shivering. Let's get her some soup so she doesn't catch a cold."

Nathan gave Kennedy a grateful look. "Thanks, Mom. I appreciate it."

After Kennedy left, Nathan gently asked, "Jessica, can you tell me what happened tonight? What kind of danger did you face?"

Jessica just shook her head vigorously, unwilling to say anything.

How could she tell her teacher that she was almost assaulted by a thug, that she had already been harassed?

If she hadn't reacted quickly, she might have been completely ruined by now.

Nathan, frustrated, said, "Fine, you don't have to tell me. But what about James? You're carrying his child. How could he let you wander the streets alone at night? Where is he?"

His barrage of questions left Jessica speechless.

She didn't know where James was.

All she knew was that James had lied to her; he wasn't at Kelly Corporation at all.

"Please, Mr. Howard, stop asking."

Jessica cried, "I don't know. I don't know anything! I'm so tired. I just want to take a shower. I need to take a shower!"

She felt filthy after Doyle had touched her, even if he hadn't fully assaulted her. Just a single touch made her feel dirty.

It was like she was back at the Skyline Club, being forced by that stranger.

Nathan was taken aback by Jessica's state.

In his mind, Jessica was a kind, innocent, and gentle girl.

But now, she was terrified and hysterical.

He wanted to ask more but couldn't, feeling helpless.

"Alright, I'll run a bath for you."

He led her to the guest room. "I'll have my mom bring you some pajamas. Take a bath and get some rest. We'll talk tomorrow."

After settling Jessica in the room, Nathan went downstairs, feeling dejected.

Kennedy was standing at the bottom of the stairs with a bowl of freshly made soup.

"Mom."

Nathan called softly, clearly upset.

Kennedy said, "I remember that girl. I saw her at a charity event once. She's from the Evans family, right? She looks so young. How is she pregnant?"

Nathan sighed slightly. "Yes, she got married young."

"And her husband?" Kennedy seemed to sense something. "It's late, and you brought her home. Won't her husband mind?"

Nathan frowned. "Her husband doesn't care about her. Otherwise, he wouldn't have let her wander the streets alone at this hour."

"Nathan."

Kennedy spoke earnestly, "You're a respected figure in the medical field and a professor. You've never brought a female student home before. Let her have some soup and then take her back. Otherwise, it could affect both your reputations."

Nathan suddenly said, "Mom, you know me better than anyone. You should know that if it were just any student, I wouldn't have brought her home like this."

Kennedy was shocked and asked, "What do you mean? She's pregnant and married! Nathan, you can't be serious. Even if I agreed, your father would never approve."
