Chapter 83 Tricking Her Back
Yesterday, after James kicked her out of the car, he felt a bit guilty and couldn't stop worrying. He wanted to go back and check on her.
Olivia peeked out the window and said, "Mr. Kelly, Mrs. Kelly just left."
James paused, "Where'd she go?"
Olivia replied, "Her dad's sick. I heard it's serious, so she went home."
"What? Her dad's sick?" James muttered, eyebrows furrowed. He saw John at the exhibition this morning, and he looked fine.
Olivia asked, "Have you eaten?"
James shook his head, "No, I'm heading out."
He didn't know what the Evans family wanted with Jessica, but he was worried.
Meanwhile, Louisa Evans was sitting on the sofa, enjoying tea Joan had made.
"Mrs. Evans, this tea's good, right? It's new!" Joan said, massaging her back.
Mrs. Evans nodded, "Yes, it's good. Are you sure John isn't coming back today?"
Joan smiled, "You can rest assured! John went to the exhibition and has a business trip to a neighboring city this afternoon. He won't be back!"
Mrs. Evans snorted, "Good. John spoils Jessica too much. She doesn't even respect me. Now she dares to compete with Pearl for a husband. How shameless!"
Pearl said, "Grandma, you have to help me! Jessica's been married to James for two years, and the Kelly family never took her seriously. What can she bring to the Evans family? But I finally got Jack to like me, and now Jessica's interfering. If she ruins my marriage to the Kelly family, the Evans family's honor is at stake!"
Mrs. Evans looked at Pearl and promised, "I know you've been wronged. With your dad not around to protect her, I'll stand up for you!"
As they were talking, a maid came in, "Mrs. Louisa Evans, Mrs. Joan Evans, Ms. Evans is back."
Jessica ran in, looking worried, "Where's Dad? How is he? What's wrong with him?"
Mrs. Louisa Evans said, "You know the way back? I'm old, and you never ask about my health. Do you care about anyone in the Evans family besides your dad?"
Jessica sensed something was off. She looked at Joan and Pearl, who were smirking.
She asked coldly, "Grandma, how's my dad? Is he sick or not?"
Louisa looked a bit guilty but quickly regained her composure.
She replied, "Your dad wasn't feeling well a few days ago, but he's better now and went to work."
Then she looked Jessica up and down, "You've been married to James for two years. Why hasn't he come to our family to pay a visit or bring gifts? Did we raise you just to give you to him for free and let him bully you?"
Jessica looked at Louisa, confused. She didn't want to discuss her and James's issues with them, so she changed the subject, "So, you called me over just to say this? My dad's fine, right?"
