Chapter 388 Sharing a Room with Professor Howard (2)
James felt deeply guilty and said in a low voice, "It's my fault."
If heaven could give him another chance, he would want to spend every birthday at home with his loved ones.
Unfortunately, Jessica had left him, and Gerald would soon leave as well.
James's eyes turned red; for the first time, he felt fear.
He had always thought he was invincible and fearless.
But now he realized that he too had moments of fear.
The butler smiled and said, "Mr. Kelly, make a wish."
James slowly said, "I wish that Grandpa could stay healthy and be with me every year."
In a daze, Gerald, through the faint candlelight, seemed to see James as a child again.
The James he cherished the most and felt the most for.
After blowing out the candles, James personally cut a piece of cake for Gerald and said, "The doctor said you can't eat too many sweets, so you can only have one bite at most."
Gerald smiled helplessly and said, "Getting old is like this, being treated like a child."
The grandfather and grandson reminisced, enjoying it immensely.
There was both emotion and sentiment and even many regrets.
At this moment, James said, "Grandpa, I'm going to see Jessica and bring her a piece of cake."
Even though she was on duty tonight, he still wanted to share the happiness and joy of his birthday with her.
It felt like with her there, this birthday would be complete.
Cardiology Department.
Jessica looked gloomily at the water pipe in the interns' duty room, which was continuously leaking water.
She had made several calls to the logistics department, but the maintenance workers had already gone off duty and could only come to fix it tomorrow.
Jessica was extremely frustrated; the floor of the duty room was all wet, and even her shoes were soaked.
When Nathan came out, he happened to see Jessica holding a mop, mopping the floor over and over again in the duty room.
"What's going on?"
He walked over, looked at the small duty room with water all over the floor, and asked, "Why is there so much water?"
Jessica sighed and said, "The pipe is probably broken, or the drain is clogged."
"Then why are you mopping the floor? On such a cold night, if you sleep in this damp place, you'll catch a cold."
As he spoke, he pointed to his duty room and said, "My place is bigger and has four beds. If you don't mind, you can stay in my duty room for the night. The maintenance workers should come to fix the pipe tomorrow."
Jessica was stunned for a moment and hurriedly declined, "No need to trouble you, Professor Howard. I'm fine in our interns' duty room. I won't get sick that easily!"
Nathan looked at her quietly and suddenly chuckled, "Why do I feel like you just saw a dangerous person? Am I that scary? Or are you afraid I'll take advantage of you?"
Jessica looked at him in surprise and quickly shook her head.
Nathan's smile deepened, "Don't worry, I'm not that kind of person, and I certainly wouldn't have any improper thoughts about my students. How about this, you sleep in my duty room tonight, and I'll sleep in yours. After all, my body can handle the cold better than yours."
