Chapter 355 She No Longer Wants to Be a Doctor (1)

The classmate smirked and said, "I just walked by the office and overheard the higher-ups talking. Sounds like she's getting expelled. This whole thing is a mess. Hasn't Jessica already been suspended from her internship and sent home?"

Kylie snapped back, "It's not 'sent home'! Jessica was wronged! Professor Howard just told her to take a couple of days off to avoid the drama."

The classmate rolled his eyes and said, "Don't be so naive. If Professor Howard hadn't said that, would Jessica have just gone home? I used to think Jessica was solid, but I didn't expect her to pull something like this!"

Kylie thought, 'It's over! Looks like Jessica's gonna take the fall for that heartless teacher!'

Meanwhile, in Nathan's office, everyone looked super serious. Even though the hospital director and the principal usually respected Nathan, they were losing their patience with the hospital's reputation on the line.

The director said sternly, "Professor Howard, you've called that student a bunch of times, and she hasn't picked up once. What does that tell you? She's feeling guilty! She's definitely hiding!"

Nathan's face was tense as he pulled out his phone and said, "I'll call again."

"Stop calling!" The director interrupted, "Why are you so sure this intern isn't at fault? I get that you want to protect the students, but you need to face reality! This is simple: punish the student, explain to the family, and calm them down!"

Nathan looked the director straight in the eye and said, "Then why won't you admit that our resident doctor is mainly responsible here? She was on duty, and all the patients' safety was her responsibility. This patient complained of chest pain multiple times that night. If she had just checked, even once, she wouldn't have let this patient go!"

The director dodged the point and said, "Isn't it obvious? That night, the intern was in the office the whole time. If the patient had an issue, they would've gone to the intern. But the intern didn't notify our resident doctor!"

Nathan couldn't keep his cool anymore and said emotionally, "Do you know why the intern was in the office all night? Because Cynthia gave her too many tasks to finish during the day, she had to work overtime. Even if she wasn't on duty that night, Cynthia would've still made her see the patient first. Cynthia is an irresponsible doctor, and something was bound to go wrong sooner or later!"

The director said harshly, "Professor Howard, I can't just take your word for it. The fact that the intern isn't coming forward shows she's feeling guilty! I've talked it over with the principal, and we've decided to expel this student. It's the only way to set an example for the other interns!"

Nathan suddenly let out a light laugh and looked at the hospital director mockingly.

"What are you laughing at?" The director was furious and said angrily, "Mr. Howard, are you provoking me?"

Nathan met his gaze fearlessly and said, "I just think that we are doctors, not greedy businessmen. Don't be overly aggressive or unseemly in pursuing your interests! You know very well that Cynthia violated a major duty rule and should bear the main responsibility. If Cynthia takes the blame, our hospital will be implicated. After all, she's been with us for ten years. But Jessica is different! She's just an intern. So it's pretty clear what you should do, isn't it? The principle of protecting the important by sacrificing the less important, you understand it better than I do, Director."
