Chapter 48 Normal Communication Between Husband and Wife

After her shower, Jessica looked stunning, wrapped in a towel that seemed to melt into her fair skin.

James thought Jessica was the perfect mix of allure and innocence.

These two seemingly opposite qualities blended seamlessly in her.

"Come here," James said, his voice deep and dry.

He should've done this sooner. Maybe then Jessica wouldn't have cheated out of loneliness.

Jessica walked timidly to the bed, but James flipped her over and pinned her down.

She was nervous but didn't dare struggle.

Just as James was about to pull off her towel, Jessica pushed him away. "You have to promise me you'll let Lily go."

James was annoyed she was treating this like a transaction.

"That depends on your performance," he said, his voice low.

"James, I have nothing left, not even my dignity, which you've insulted. Let Lily go; it's my only request," Jessica pleaded.

James frowned and removed her hand. "How does normal interaction between a husband and wife relate to dignity?"

"But do you even consider me your wife?" Jessica asked sorrowfully.

James ignored her words and still pulled off her towel.

Suddenly, Jessica felt a warm flow below.

"Damn!" she exclaimed, blushing and quickly covering herself with the blanket.

"I think I just got my period," she said timidly.

James's face darkened.

Jessica was mortified to get her period at such a moment.

James's rising anger dissipated when he saw Jessica's innocent and aggrieved face.

He swallowed hard, restrained himself, and pinched her cheek. "I'll let it go this time. Next time, you won't be so lucky."

Just then, the phone rang.

James answered, and the caregiver's urgent voice came through, "Mr. Kelly, something's wrong. Miss Morris is missing."

The caregiver's voice was loud enough for Jessica to hear.

She thought, 'Rose is missing? What kind of scheme is she up to now?'

As soon as James heard about Rose, he got off Jessica and hurriedly started dressing.

He left in a rush, not looking back.

Jessica's heart felt empty and cold.

Luckily, she got her period; otherwise, even if she had given herself completely to him, he would still have left without looking back after their intimacy.

James drove to the hospital as fast as he could.

On the way, he had someone check the surveillance footage and found that Rose was walking by the artificial lake behind the hospital.

By the time he arrived, Rose had been found and brought back to her room.

James entered with a dark expression and finally couldn't hold back his anger. "Why on earth would you do something so foolish?"

Rose cried, "I didn't do anything foolish. You haven't talked to me for two days. I felt so lonely. I just wanted to walk by the lake."

James angrily said, "There are signs by the artificial lake saying not to go near it. Didn't you see them?"

In the surveillance footage, Rose was walking right by the lake, almost slipping several times, making people anxious.

Rose suddenly burst into tears. "I felt so sad and guilty towards Miss Evans and you. I didn't expect things to escalate this way. I tried to stop my relatives, but I didn't think they would post such comments online, causing so much trouble for Miss Evans. Fortunately, a reasonable professor came forward to help."

At this moment, Rose had pushed all the blame away from herself.
