Chapter 351 Move Over. Don't Get So Close to Me (1)
Jessica raised an eyebrow and asked, "What's up?"
James lowered his voice, "Did you forget our deal? Even if we're faking it, we gotta act like a loving couple in front of Grandpa. We both agreed to take care of him here, but now you're heading to the duty room to sleep, leaving me alone. What do you think Grandpa will think?"
Jessica glanced at the bed and whispered, "But this bed's too small for two people."
James smirked briefly before getting serious, "We'll just have to squeeze in."
Jessica bit her lip, frustrated. She thought, 'We're already divorced; how can we share a bed? It's awkward just talking to him now.'
James leaned in and softly said, "Jessica, I won't touch you. We'll just sleep, nothing else. Don't worry, okay?"
Jessica looked up at him, feeling like he was a big bad wolf luring her in.
But thinking about Gerald's wishes, she realized he wanted to see her and James happy. So even if it was just an act, she couldn't let Gerald leave this world with regrets.
Finally, Jessica reluctantly agreed.
When it was time to sleep, James had her sleep on the inside, worried the bed was too narrow and she might fall off.
Jessica curled up at the very edge, almost against the wall, trying to keep as much distance from him as possible.
But after the lights were off, James's body started pressing closer and closer.
She could feel his warmth and his slightly rapid breathing.
Jessica's body tensed up, and she whispered, "James, move over. Don't get so close to me. We agreed, didn't we?"
James's cool lips brushed against her ear as he said mischievously, "But I'll fall off."
Jessica was extremely frustrated; she shouldn't have agreed.
She had made herself take up as little space as possible, yet he still said it wasn't enough and kept pressing closer. But with Gerald just a door away, Jessica didn't dare argue with him or make any noise. So, she had to pitifully endure him being so close.
Late at night, Jessica couldn't sleep at all, staying on high alert. She whispered in protest, "Hey, James, where's your hand going?"
"Sorry," James apologized and moved his hand down from her chest.
Jessica took a deep breath, resisting the urge to kick him off the bed.
Shrouded in darkness, James grinned broadly. Smelling the fragrance of her neck, he felt an incredible sense of peace. He thought this must be a gift from above, allowing him to be this close to Jessica, to hold her like this, to feel her warmth, even after their divorce.
Eventually, Jessica was too tired and fell asleep.
The next day, Gerald felt a bit better and got out of bed on his own.
Unexpectedly, when he came out, he saw the two of them cuddled up on the bed, sleeping soundly.
Hearing footsteps, James and Jessica woke up simultaneously. They instinctively let go of each other and immediately looked at Gerald.
James quickly got out of bed and said, "Grandpa, why are you up?"
