Chapter 319 Resolving the Misunderstanding (3)
Jessica struggled to get the words out, "Well, he's the one making all the money. I haven't really done anything for this family."
Plus, things were so tense between her and James that asking for money felt humiliating. She didn't want James to think less of her.
Kylie shook her head, "I don't get you rich folks. If I were you, I'd be thrilled. No more part-time jobs every day."
They chatted as they walked.
Eventually, they split up at the subway station.
When Jessica got home, Olivia quickly pulled her to the dining table.
"Mrs. Kelly, come eat," Olivia said with a warm smile. "Look, I made all your favorite dishes. You've lost weight recently, so eat up."
Jessica hadn't had such a feast in ages. She swallowed, feeling tempted.
But the moment she saw James at the table, her courage vanished.
She forced a smile, "Olivia, I just ate with a classmate. I'll head to my room."
She was about to leave when she heard James's deep voice.
"Come and eat."
He couldn't help but call out, but his tone was still cold. "Pearl is gone. You should stop pushing my buttons."
Jessica glanced at him, expressionless, "If I'm such a bother, go find someone who makes you happy. Like Rose."
James slammed his knife and fork down, yelling at her, "Jessica, you're really pushing it!"
Jessica flinched, trembling.
She was scared James would treat her like he did Pearl last night.
Olivia was startled too and quickly pulled Jessica over, "Mrs. Kelly, Mr. Kelly is worried you didn't eat well outside. Just eat a little, okay?"
With red eyes, Jessica carefully sat at the table, letting Olivia hand her the utensils.
At that moment, James stood up, ready to leave.
Olivia quickly said, "Mr. Kelly, you've eaten too little."
"I'm done," James said coldly. "I don't want to be here making someone uncomfortable while eating!"
With that, he stormed out.
Even though his words were harsh, Jessica knew James cared about her.
Otherwise, with his personality, he wouldn't compromise like this.
However, his actions made her feel even more guilty for hurting him.
Olivia, trying to mend things, said, "Mrs. Kelly, don't blame Mr. Kelly. He really cares about you. Today, he specifically told me to clean the master bedroom and move your things from the storage room up there. So, you can go back to the master bedroom."
Jessica felt a pang of sadness, "I don't want to go back. Does he think letting me return to the master bedroom is a favor? Does he think I'll forget he brought Pearl back? That place makes me sick."
"Mrs. Kelly," Olivia said with concern. "It's getting colder, and there's no air conditioning in the storage room. It's not a place for you to live."
Jessica said, "I can handle it. Plus, I won't be staying there much longer."
If things continued like this, James would soon get fed up and eventually divorce her.
