Chapter 369 He Still Can't Let Her Go (3)
Jessica's eyes were a bit red, and she choked up, "Professor Howard didn't hurt me. It's not what you think!"
James said seriously, "In the workplace, nothing's worse than crossing the line with your boss. What Nathan's doing is a big no-no! If people find out he spent two hundred grand of his own money to smooth things over with the patient's family for you, you'll be the one everyone criticizes! He'll still be the respected professor with a line of patients, and you'll be seen as someone who cozies up to her boss for favors. That's a scary thought. Get what I'm saying?"
Jessica took a deep breath, "Thanks for the heads-up. I'll be more careful."
James advised, "Tomorrow, give him back the two hundred grand and tell him you don't want to owe him."
Jessica sighed, looking troubled, "But I don't have so much money."
"I do," James said firmly. "I'll give you the money tonight, and you can return it to him tomorrow."
Jessica hesitated but still refused, "We're divorced. I have no reason to take your money."
"Why are you so stubborn?" James frowned, "When you left, you didn't take any money or the house. It was all marital property. Half of my assets are yours. What's two hundred grand?"
But Jessica still refused, "I can't take your money. My relationship with you and Nathan is the same. I can't take his money, so I can't take yours either. I'll find a way to return the two hundred grand myself."
James felt a tightness in his chest hearing her words.
He suddenly grabbed her waist and kissed her hard.
Jessica was stunned, her eyes wide open. She resisted, pushing against his shoulders, but he didn't budge.
Jessica's heart was racing. 'We're divorced. What's he doing?'
Jessica bit his lip hard.
James let her go instinctively, anger flashing in his eyes.
Jessica wiped her lips with the back of her hand, "James, are you crazy? How can you still treat me like this?"
They were on the side of the road. It was a bit secluded, but people occasionally walked by.
Jessica's face was so red it looked like it would burst.
James's voice was low and hoarse, "Jessica, I realize I still can't let you go. If I see someone else taking my place in your life, I think I'll go crazy!"
Jessica felt like her heart was being squeezed, the pain spreading through her body.
She couldn't look into his deep eyes and said sadly, "You already have Rose, and you have a child together. People can't be too greedy, right?"
James had no words to argue with her, so he just nodded, "Yeah, you're right."
Jessica sniffled, "It's too cold out here. Let's go back and see if Grandpa's awake."
She wrapped her coat tighter and walked towards the hospital.
James quietly followed, his gentle gaze fixed on her back.
