Chapter 196 She Had Misunderstood Him

Before the nurse could give Jessica an IV, she got out of bed to look outside. She figured he must've left. But she couldn't help herself; she needed to see it with her own eyes to let go of that tiny hope.

She walked out of the ward, scanning the corridor. Sure enough, James was nowhere in sight. Jessica lowered her eyes, her long lashes hiding her sadness.

Olivia, noticing her disappointment, quickly tried to comfort her. "Mrs. Kelly, don't overthink it. Mr. Kelly does care about you. Otherwise, he wouldn't be so worried. He's been running himself ragged since you were hospitalized. Even at work, he's always asking about your condition."

"Stop it, Olivia," Jessica gently interrupted, trying to hold back her tears. If Olivia kept talking, she might start hoping again.

Just then, Rose's voice cut through. "Miss Evans, do you think pretending to be sick can delay the divorce?" Rose sneered as she walked toward Jessica. "You really think faking an illness will get James's sympathy?"

Jessica was surprised; hadn't James gone to find Rose? So, he wasn't with her? She had misunderstood him.

Even though Rose was there to provoke her, Jessica didn't feel as bad anymore.

Olivia recognized Rose as the woman James had brought back. Worried Jessica would suffer more, she stepped forward, her voice steady. "Mr. Kelly and Mrs. Kelly are fine; they've never mentioned divorce! If Mr. Kelly wanted to marry you, he would've done it already!"

Without warning, Rose slapped Olivia, the sound echoing down the corridor. Pointing at Olivia, she spat, "Who do you think you are? Just a servant! You have no right to speak here!"

Jessica, seeing this, rushed over and pushed Rose away. Steadying Olivia, she glared at Rose. "Apologize to Olivia now! Or I'll drag out the divorce just like you said. Let's see who gets anxious then."

Rose's face twisted with rage. "You!" she barked, laughing angrily. "So, you admit it? You're pretending to be sick! You've signed the divorce papers but won't go to the city hall. How long are you planning to drag this out?"

Olivia, shocked by Rose's audacity, turned to Jessica and said calmly, "Mrs. Kelly, let's not waste time with her. Let's call Mr. Kelly and let him see this woman's behavior."

Rose chuckled. "Go ahead and call. Let's see if James believes me or you. You just can't take a hint, can you?"

"Rose! Watch your mouth!" Jessica snapped. "If you think that, go tell James I'm pretending to be sick. Let's see what he says."

Rose, desperate to become Mrs. Kelly, was anxious. She was so close to marrying James, but Jessica hadn't gone to the city hall. In a fit of rage, she shouted, "You admit you're faking it. Let's go tell James!"

Rose grabbed Jessica's wrist, trying to drag her to find James. Olivia stepped forward to stop her but was pushed to the ground by Rose.
