Chapter 581 Experts from Abroad (1)
Nathan tried to keep his anxiety in check and said calmly, "Actually, there's no need to rush this project. If the sample size is small, we can take our time collecting more. We'll get there eventually."
Jessica laughed, "You're usually so efficient and always complain that we're too slow. Why are you telling me to take it easy now?"
Nathan reached out and gently ruffled her hair, speaking softly, "I'm just worried you'll get too tired."
Jessica took a deep breath, thinking about the future. "I'm not tired. Just knowing that if this drug succeeds in clinical trials, it could save so many children's lives makes it all worth it."
Nathan felt even more uneasy. Jessica's determination and desire for success were clear, and it made him fear losing something he hadn't even secured yet.
Jessica didn't notice his discomfort and decided to think carefully about the situation. Despite Nathan's repeated reminders about Colt and Cordelia being away from their mom for a year, she remained resolute.
The next day, Jessica shared her decision with him. "I've decided to accept the job offer from that university. It's not a big deal; I'm originally from Dragonrise, and I should go back to my homeland."
Jessica smiled slightly, "Actually, the job there is much easier. I only have to see patients two days a week, and the rest of the time, apart from teaching, is mine. I can still manage the project here."
Nathan looked at her with concern. "You'll be even more exhausted, trying to juggle everything. And what about Colt and Cordelia? They're so young. Can they really be away from their mom?"
Jessica reassured him, "Last night, I talked to Colt and Cordelia. They were excited about going back. I plan to take them with me, so I can keep an eye on them."
Nathan immediately objected, "You're being too naive. Here, you have me, the live-in nanny, and Lily to help. Over there, you'll be alone with two kids, taking them to and from preschool, dealing with their minor illnesses. Are you sure you can handle it?"
Jessica had considered taking the nanny who had been caring for Colt and Cordelia, but the nanny didn't want to leave her own family behind.
She thought for a moment and said, "I can hire a live-in nanny back home to help with the kids."
"You should look online and see how many parents back home leave their kids with nannies, only for the kids to end up in accidents or even kidnapped," Nathan warned.
Jessica became more cautious, realizing it wasn't as simple as she had thought. For now, Nathan managed to dissuade her from returning home.
But Jessica wasn't one to give up easily. Nathan knew that her dreams and convictions drove her actions.
After a few days of consideration, Jessica made a final decision. She would go back alone.
"I can arrange my clinic and teaching schedule to be on the same days. That way, I can fly back every week when I'm not working. It might cost more in airfare, but it's doable," she explained.
Nathan knew he couldn't stop her in the end.
Before leaving, Jessica took Colt and Cordelia to see a movie and then to Disneyland. The kids had a blast.
"Colt, Cordelia, did you have fun today?" Jessica asked, crouching down to their level.
Both kids nodded enthusiastically.
Jessica smiled, but inside, she was weighed down by the things she hadn't yet said.
