Chapter 567 I Am Willing to Worry About You
Finally, her fingers found Nathan's number, and she dialed.
Nathan was surprised to see her call.
After hearing her situation, Nathan said nervously, "Stay in the car and send me your location. I'll come get you."
In Rose's hospital room, the doctor examined her and confirmed that her freshly stitched wound had torn open.
Seeing the blood seeping through the bandage, James said softly, "I'm sorry for what Jessica did. She didn't mean it."
Rose put on a victim's facade and said, "Forget it. It's not the first time. I'm used to it."
The more she said this, the guiltier James felt.
After all, Jessica was always gentle and kind to others, but when it came to Rose, she was always so obsessive and extreme.
James was silent for a moment before he steeled himself and said, "Rose, this is the last time I'll see you. Consider it a farewell. Rest well here, and once you're better, I'll arrange for Sean to take you and our son abroad. Maybe meeting me was your misfortune. All I can say is, I'm sorry."
Rose's eyes were dark and unreadable, but she didn't try to stop him. Instead, she said hesitantly, "Do you want to go to the nursery and see our son one last time? After this, he'll never see his father again. Just one last look?"
"Okay."
James responded quietly and went to the nursery.
The tiny baby was still in the incubator, sleeping peacefully.
He stood there quietly, looking at the baby, overwhelmed with guilt and helplessness.
Whenever he felt his resolve waver, he reminded himself that Jessica was also carrying his child.
The child he wanted was the one Jessica would give him.
Finally, he forced himself to look away and left decisively.
Back at the villa.
He immediately asked Olivia, "Has Jessica returned?"
"No," Olivia said worriedly. "You left not long ago, and Mrs. Kelly went out right after. I thought she was going to find you."
James was alarmed. He called her while rushing out the door again.
At Ocean City University Hospital.
Nathan had asked a familiar obstetrics professor to check on Jessica.
Fortunately, it was just emotional distress that had affected the baby, with no substantial harm.
Jessica's worries finally eased.
The doctor suggested she stay for a couple of days for observation. Jessica, not wanting to face James, agreed.
Nathan helped her to the hospital room, and Jessica apologized, "I'm sorry, Mr. Howard, for troubling you so late."
"Is this the time to say that?"
Nathan smiled warmly at her. "I want to help you."
Jessica looked at him, a bit confused, not fully grasping his meaning. Nathan had already gone to handle her discharge paperwork.
Just then, her phone started ringing again.
She knew it was James.
He had probably calmed Rose down and was now trying to soothe her. How exhausting for him!
Jessica turned off her phone and tossed it aside, ignoring it.
Not long after, Nathan returned.
Jessica thought he would leave after handling the paperwork, considering it was already past eleven.
But to her surprise, Nathan showed no intention of leaving.
The public hospital's conditions weren't as good as a private one, and the room was small. Nathan sat in a chair by her bed, keeping her company.
Jessica felt incredibly awkward and said, "Mr. Howard, it's late. You should go home and rest. You've already helped me so much today, and I feel bad."
Nathan looked at her with deep, gentle eyes and said, "I told you, I want to help. And you don't need to feel bad."
It was then that Jessica suddenly realized she might have been missing something all along.
Did Nathan have feelings for her?
The thought made Jessica's face flush, and she couldn't bring herself to meet Nathan's gaze.
