Lily lifted her chin proudly. "Yep! My fiancé's coming over at the end of the year to talk about the wedding."
Michael, always good at hiding his true feelings, smiled. "Congrats." He leaned back in his chair, finally looking away. "You can go now. Leave your friend's case files, and I'll review them."
Lily was a bit surprised. Was it really that easy? She expected a tougher fight tonight. Instead, he didn't make things hard and even agreed to help Jessica with the lawsuit without any fuss.
She couldn't help but say, "Thanks. When should I transfer the attorney's fee?"
"No rush," he said lightly. His casual tone made Lily's heart flutter. If he didn't want money but was still willing to help, it meant she owed him a big favor.
Lily's mind raced. She'd rather he take the fee so they wouldn't owe each other anything!
The next day, James wasn't surprised to get the lawyer's letter at work.
Even though he expected it, he was still angry.
Jessica was dead set on the divorce. He slowly tore up the letter and tossed it in the trash.
Luckily, he was prepared, so he wouldn't be caught off guard when Jessica made up her mind.
Just then, Sean knocked and came in. "Mr. Kelly, Mr. Stewart's been waiting outside for over an hour. Do you want to see him?"
James had caused Stewart Corporation to lose their three biggest orders in just a few days, messing up their cash flow.
James rubbed his temples, knowing it was time to stop making him wait. "Let him in."
Adam walked in reverently. "Mr. Kelly, please show mercy and let us go this time! We're not worth your effort!"
James's smile didn't reach his eyes. "Mr. Stewart, don't get me wrong. Taking the next three orders wasn't to compete with you; it was just a coincidence. After all, my wife is still at your place. How could I provoke you, right?"
Adam, a seasoned businessman, got the hint immediately.
He promised, "Mr. Kelly, please don't say that. It's my fault for not educating Lily well, causing this trouble! I'll go back and properly discipline her!"
James smiled, satisfied. "You're sensible. I'll be at home waiting for your good news."
James even promised, "My wife has been bothering you at your place for so long. When she comes back, I'll definitely compensate you for taking care of her."
Adam was sweating but excited. The compensation from James would be substantial, enough to profit Stewart Corporation for a year!
He kept thanking James and left the Kelly Corporation with a spring in his step.
At Ocean City University, Jessica and Adam stood in the hallway.
Hearing Adam say that James almost brought down Stewart Corporation, she immediately got his point.
She said guiltily, "Mr. Stewart, I'm really sorry. It's all because of me. I dragged you all into this."
Adam sighed and said, "Jessica, I watched you and Lily grow up. I didn't expect you to marry someone like Mr. Kelly so young. But someone like him needs to be pampered and coaxed. How can you go against him?"
