Chapter 116 Actually, Neither Wants a Divorce
Lily thought for a second and said, "Isn't your birthday coming up? Maybe he's planning a surprise."
If it hadn't been for Lily's reminder, Jessica had almost forgotten. He had never known her birthday before, let alone celebrated it. Could this year be different?
Regardless of the uncertainty, Lily's words sparked a bit of hope in Jessica's heart.
But then Jessica said gloomily, "He already brought Rose home and said his assistant would bring me divorce papers soon."
Lily replied, "As an outsider, let me be fair. Look, even though he cheated and treated you badly. But in this situation, both of you were arguing and said things you didn't mean. You don't really want a divorce, do you?"
Jessica shot back, "Who says I don't? I think about leaving him every day!"
Lily grinned, "Come on! You can fool others, but not me. You've probably mentioned divorce during fights, right?"
Jessica nodded weakly, admitting she had.
Lily clapped her hands, "Exactly! Everyone says things they don't mean in a fight. Now, he's trying to make peace and bought you an expensive gift. That means one thing!"
"What?" Jessica asked, confused.
Lily said seriously, "He doesn't want a divorce either!"
Jessica looked at her indifferently, "You don't understand James. He really cares about Rose; he's been wanting to leave me for a long time."
Lily shrugged, "I don't see that. I see him hesitating about the divorce."
Jessica looked puzzled, "You're so strange! You used to tell me to get a divorce. Now you're saying I should fight for this marriage?"
Lily got serious, "I just want you to be happy. If you get divorced and end up feeling lost, why not fight for what you truly want? You're younger than Rose, you come from a better family, and you have a better education. Win James back, and you'll be the winner."
Jessica pondered Lily's words, feeling conflicted.
Lily patted her shoulder, "Jessica, if I were in your shoes, I'd follow my heart. If you still had feelings for him, fight for him. Even if things don't turn out as hoped, at least you won't have regrets."
Just then, James called. He thought Jessica had been staying in the apartment he arranged, but she wasn't there when he went to pick her up.
James felt a surge of anxiety, but luckily, Jessica answered his call.
"Are you still at Golden Plaza?" he asked, thinking she went shopping.
Jessica said softly, "I'm already back."
James said in a deep voice, "Tell me where you are. You're not at home. Where did you go?"
Jessica felt hurt and choked up, "Are you suspecting I'm with another man again? James, wherever I am is none of your business."
Lily grabbed the phone and snapped, "Jessica is with me right now! What's the matter? You brought the third party home, and she came to me to vent. Does that bother you?"
