Chapter 197 Cutting Ties with Rose (1)

Jessica, already weakened by the fever, couldn't handle the stress of the argument. Her vision blurred, and she collapsed.

"Mrs. Kelly, what's wrong?" Olivia's worried voice cut through the chaos. She knelt beside Jessica, noticing the cold sweat on her forehead. "I'll get a doctor. Please hang in there!" she said, panicked.

Rose, startled, took a step back. "Are you pretending again? Jessica, don't think you can blame this on me!"

A cold voice interrupted, "What's going on?"

Rose turned, her shock turning to feigned innocence. "James, I heard Miss Evans was sick, so I came to check on her," she said with a smile. "But she got emotional when she saw me."

James, fresh from a meeting with Willie, found Rose's behavior unfamiliar. He gave her a cold look and walked over to gently pick up Jessica.

Rose watched in a daze as James carried Jessica into the ward. She felt uneasy; James had never looked at her so coldly before.

Determined, Rose decided to wait outside the ward. She was set on finalizing Jessica and James's divorce.

James carried Jessica into the ward, his touch gentle. As he laid her on the bed, his eyes showed deep guilt and sorrow.

"Jessica, I'm sorry you had to go through this," he whispered, genuinely remorseful.

Jessica, still dazed, looked up at him, astonished and wary. It was hard to reconcile this James with the distant man loyal to Rose.

"James," she murmured bitterly. "This is the first time you've believed me."

Her words hit James hard. He stroked her hair, feeling a lump in his throat. His gaze was more complex and affectionate than ever, making Jessica doubt her perception.

Just then, Rose walked in, feigning concern. "Is Miss Evans alright? How come she was fine just now but collapsed as soon as James arrived?"

James's sharp gaze startled Rose. She pondered, 'Why is he acting so strangely? He has never been harsh with me before.'

His intense eyes made her more nervous by the second.

Finally, James stood up. "Come with me," he said, walking out.

Rose thought he was leaving Jessica and hurried after him, feeling triumphant. She threw Jessica a smug glance as she passed.

Inside the ward, Olivia was furious. "Mrs. Kelly, why didn't you hold onto Mr. Kelly? He finally had a change of heart, but now he's been drawn away by that woman again!"

Jessica, used to this emotional roller-coaster, shook her head. "He was never going to stay."

James led Rose to a quiet stairwell. She tried to lean into him, but he pushed her away coldly. "Who told you to come here?" he demanded.
