Chapter 329 I Won't Marry You (1)
James' eyes lit up, and he jumped up to open the door. But instead of who he was expecting, there was Rose in a wheelchair. A flicker of disappointment crossed his face, and he shot a sharp look at his secretary.
James said coldly, "What did you just say? Who's here?"
The secretary, a bit confused, kept smiling at Rose, "It's Mrs. Kelly!"
Rose's pregnancy was starting to show, and she was set to become Mrs. Kelly soon.
The secretary thought this was her chance to get on Rose's good side.
Of course, Rose was soaking up the flattery.
But James cut in coldly, "You don't need to come to work tomorrow."
The secretary was stunned and felt wronged. "Mr. Kelly, did I do something wrong?"
"You're acting like you're my boss!" James snapped, his eyes icy. "Get out! Now!"
The secretary, feeling crushed, covered her mouth and ran out in tears. Rose felt super awkward as her caregiver wheeled her into James' office. She asked the caregiver to leave, wanting to be alone with James.
James spoke in a low voice, "You're not fully recovered. You should be resting in the hospital, not running around."
Rose started to cry, "James, what do you mean? That secretary didn't know about us. She just made a mistake. How could you treat her like that? Are you trying to humiliate me?"
"You're overthinking it," James said flatly. "I want my employees to focus on their work, not on sucking up."
Even though James said it wasn't about her, Rose knew the secretary had crossed a line. But his behavior made her feel even more wronged. James had divorced Jessica, so why was he still holding onto the title of Mrs. Kelly for her?
She hesitated and said, "James, our baby is due in a little over six months. If we don't get married, won't the baby be without a proper identity?"
"I'll take care of it. Don't worry," James replied curtly, avoiding any mention of marriage.
Rose, feeling hurt, said, "I know you still blame me for Jessica divorcing you. Do you think I forced her? But I really didn't!"
James smirked, "When I put the divorce papers in front of you, you dropped the lawsuit right away, didn't you?"
Rose, looking serious, said, "I let Jessica's father go not because you two got divorced, but because I was moved by her filial duty to her father. James, I'm an orphan with no parents. Do you know how much I envy her? I didn't want her to become an orphan like me, so I let her father go. But I didn't expect my kindness to be misunderstood by you."
