Chapter 472 Discovering the Affair (2)
James held her waist with both hands, leaning against her neck like a lost child, and said in a low voice, "Jessica, after grandpa died, you're the only family I have left in this world."
Jessica felt a wave of sadness in her heart. She hugged him tightly as well and said softly, "The trial is tomorrow. Everything will go smoothly. These dark days will eventually pass."
On the day of the trial, many media reporters gathered at the courthouse entrance.
James was someone who valued his privacy immensely, but since Linda and George had already spread the news, James decided to see it through to the end.
In the courtroom, Linda even brought the injured Jack to elicit sympathy from the judge and to solidify the image of James as ruthless.
Linda tearfully pleaded, "Your Honor, you must seek justice for us! James has harmed his brother and altered his will. This is intolerable!"
The judge knocked the gavel and said disapprovingly, "This is not the time for you to speak!"
George quickly gave Linda a look, and she reluctantly fell silent.
The judge then looked at James and said, "Defendant, do you have anything to say in response to the plaintiff's accusations?"
James calmly and composedly said, "Years ago, the plaintiff destroyed my family as a third party and married my father. Therefore, when my grandpa was alive, he made it a condition that both plaintiffs give up their inheritance of the family estate and company. At that time, both plaintiffs agreed."
The courtroom audience immediately began to murmur.
Everyone whispered, surprised to learn about Linda's past.
Initially, they had all seen Linda as a pitiable mother oppressed by her stepson.
"You're lying!"
Linda couldn't hold back and shouted, "You're just making things up! I was in a legitimate relationship with your father. If you don't believe me, ask your father if I was a third party!"
She couldn't let James ruin her image so recklessly. Otherwise, the persona she had painstakingly built would collapse.
No one would sympathize with her anymore, and public opinion might even shift against her.
Therefore, Linda was particularly agitated, almost wanting to fight James in court.
The judge knocked the gavel several times and warned, "Plaintiff! If you continue to disregard courtroom decorum, I will have to ask you to leave!"
George quickly pulled Linda back and apologized, "Your Honor, I'm sorry. My wife is just very upset because of the slander."
The judge then signaled to James, "Defendant, you may continue."
James coldly curled his lips and asked, "Father, are you sure this is slander? Are you sure you didn't cheat back then? That Linda wasn't a third party?"
"I'm sure!"
George replied righteously.
At this point, James took out an old document and submitted it as evidence to the judge.
He explained, "This was left to me by my grandpa before he passed away. Back then, George and Linda gave up their inheritance of all my grandpa's assets, and there is a written agreement with their signatures."
Moreover, Gerald was meticulous in his work and particularly strict with people he didn't like.
Therefore, the document not only had George and Linda's signatures but also the reasons for the agreement.
