Chapter 228 Pregnancy (4)
Over in the OB-GYN department, Kylie was shadowing the attending doctor as a bunch of pregnant women came in for check-ups.
A young nurse whispered something to the doctor, who then told Kylie, "Step out for a moment." He also sent the other nurses out.
Kylie found it odd but didn't question it. As soon as she left the room, she spotted James and Rose nearby, talking to someone who looked like a supervisor.
Once the room was empty, James brought Rose inside.
Kylie was stunned. If she didn't have perfect vision, she'd think she was hallucinating. She pondered, 'Why is James here with that woman for a prenatal check-up? Is she pregnant with his child? Does Jessica know?'
Kylie's heart raced. Why did this drama have to unfold on her first day of her internship? Despite her shock, she was curious and needed to know what was going on between James and Rose.
Hiding in the stairwell, Kylie planned to wait until they came out. She needed more info. Just then, a nurse rushed up to her. "Kylie, Dr. Lee needs you in the consultation room. Come quickly!"
"Uh, but..." Kylie stammered, her nerves on edge. Rose might not know her, but James definitely did!
The nurse didn't give her a chance to refuse and dragged her into the room. The moment Kylie locked eyes with James, she knew she was in trouble, but she followed Dr. Lee, trying to stay calm.
They proceeded with Rose's exam. Dr. Lee confirmed the fetus was normal and ten weeks along. Kylie felt disgusted.
She thought, 'James already had a child with his mistress, but he has been deceiving Jessica all this time. Poor Jessica, knitting a scarf for this jerk.'
After the exam, Dr. Lee told James, "Mr. Kelly, your wife and the fetus are very healthy."
Rose beamed at the word "wife," while James stayed stoic, hiding his emotions.
James guided Rose out, but not before giving Kylie a warning glance. She quickly lowered her head. She wondered if she should tell Jessica about James and the prenatal check-up.
Kylie's mind was a mess. At noon, Jessica called, inviting her to lunch in the hospital cafeteria. As new interns, everything was still exciting, and lunch was a rare chance to catch up.
Kylie was torn. She hadn't decided whether to spill the truth about James. As she left the OB-GYN ward, a cold voice stopped her. Her heart skipped a beat when she saw James standing there, alone.
She took a few steps back, her voice trembling. "Mr. Kelly."
He stepped closer, his presence overwhelming. "Are you planning to meet Jessica?" His tone was low and threatening.
