Chapter 527 Clearing the Relationship with Rose (1)
"Alright, let's go downstairs for dinner now."
James excitedly grabbed her hand and they walked downstairs together.
Olivia had prepared a table full of breakfast. Seeing that Jessica seemed to be in better spirits, she quickly placed Jessica's favorite foods into her bowl.
James instructed Olivia, "Now that Jessica is pregnant, cover all the stairs and floors in the house with carpets to prevent her from slipping or falling. Also, find a designer as soon as possible to design a nursery."
"Yes, I'll take care of it right away."
Olivia cheerfully agreed immediately.
Seeing how well James treated Jessica, Olivia smiled.
However, Jessica's expression remained indifferent, without a trace of happiness.
After breakfast, James wanted to drive her to work, but two annoying bodyguards still followed them.
Jessica stopped and said reluctantly, "Can you stop having people follow me? It makes me feel like a prisoner."
James hesitated for a moment but didn't agree. Instead, he said, "I'll have them keep their distance. Don't worry, they won't interfere with your work."
Although Jessica was very frustrated, she had no choice.
Because it wasn't easy to change James's decisions.
So, James personally drove her to the hospital for work, with the two bodyguards following at a distance.
Fortunately, they kept their distance and were discreet enough that no one noticed them.
Nathan was particularly surprised to see her back at work so soon.
After all, in just over a month, Jessica had lost two family members.
One could imagine how devastating such blows would be for a young woman.
Looking at Jessica's beautiful yet haggard face, he gently said, "If you haven't fully recovered, you can take more time off. Don't worry, with me here, no one will say anything."
"Thank you, Mr. Howard, but that's not necessary."
Jessica smiled and said, "Rather than staying at home alone, wasting time, and overthinking, it's better to do something meaningful and pull myself together."
Nathan said with relief, "It's great that you think that way. By the way, you're about to apply for graduate school, so I won't schedule you for night shifts for now."
Jessica gratefully thanked him and said, "I'll do my best."
She was about to return to her office to work but was stopped by Nathan again.
"Mr. Howard, is there anything else?"
She looked at him, puzzled.
Nathan hesitated and said, "Is he treating you well? If you have any difficulties, you must tell me. I'll help you."
Jessica was momentarily stunned, knowing exactly who Nathan was referring to.
But she didn't want her relationship to become public knowledge.
So, she brushed it off and said, "Yes, he's treating me well."
Then, she avoided Nathan's deep gaze and left his office.
At that moment, Nathan's phone rang.
It was an unfamiliar number.
When he answered, James's voice came through, saying he wanted to meet up for a chat.
Nathan coldly retorted, "Mr. Kelly, you sure are impressive, getting my number so easily. But I'm sorry, I have a lot of surgeries today and don't have time to chat with you."
"That's alright."
James's tone was not as harsh as last time; instead, he sounded calm and composed, saying, "I'm just asking for a leave of absence for Jessica from Professor Howard. She won't be able to work night shifts anymore because she's pregnant."
