Chapter 118 Fire Him to Intimidate Others
"You seem to know Dominic quite well," Cassius said with a meaningful look.
Alaric didn't answer.
"Where did you find the time to get to know this man?" Cassius pressed.
Alaric still didn't answer.
"Have you always had the idea of stealing his girlfriend?" Cassius suddenly felt certain.
Alaric glanced at Cassius and said, "Stop talking so much and just do as I say."
Cassius was speechless. Now Alaric was annoyed by his talking.
Back in the day, when Alaric was going through those turbulent years, it was Cassius who comforted him and helped him get through it.
Cecilia walked out of the hall.
Augustus was already waiting for her at the door.
"Mrs. Whitaker, from today on, I will be your driver and bodyguard, protecting you 24/7," Augustus said respectfully.
Cecilia smiled. "Thank you."
Augustus didn't show much emotion in response to her friendliness.
He methodically got into Cecilia's car with her, and they headed to the Lockhart Group building.
Cecilia walked into the office. Rose followed her.
Rose was somewhat surprised when she saw the man beside Cecilia.
Cecilia said calmly, "My personal bodyguard, Augustus."
Rose was even more surprised.
Did Cecilia really need to hire a bodyguard to work at her own family's company?
"My secretary, Rose," Cecilia ignored Rose's surprise and introduced her.
"Nice to meet you." Rose extended her hand.
It was basic workplace etiquette. However, Augustus completely ignored it. He just stood there as if he didn't see it.
Rose felt a bit awkward. She put down her hand, turned to Cecilia, and quickly adjusted to her best state to report, "The issue with the collective protest from the sales department yesterday has been traced back to the ringleader, the inventory analysis supervisor, Roy Brooks."
"Roy?" Cecilia murmured, trying to recall who this person was.
"He has been with the company for twenty years but hasn't really achieved much. However, he relies on his seniority and doesn't take most people seriously. I heard that when Isadora was here, he would listen to her, but only to her. He would even show attitude to the sales director," Rose reported seriously. "This time, you transferred him to the support center of the sales department, removing him from his supervisory role. He was very dissatisfied and incited all the transferred employees to protest collectively."
"Even if he has seniority, he shouldn't have the power to influence everyone. You just said he only listens to Isadora and doesn't respect the director, which is quite suspicious."
"It's not that suspicious. After all, Isadora is part of the Lockhart family, while the director is just an employee. Anyone with sense would know who to please."
"But he still shouldn't disrespect the director," Cecilia asserted.
Rose thought for a moment and nodded, realizing it didn't quite add up.
"Roy must have connections with someone in upper management," Cecilia concluded. "He feels emboldened because he has backing."
Rose agreed, "Alright, I'll look into it."
"No need, I'll handle this. I have other tasks for you," Cecilia said directly.
"Yes," Rose responded respectfully.
"I've sorted out some of the more challenging sales projects we've had recently. I don't want to spend too much time on the projects that are already going well, as they won't bring unexpected gains to the Lockhart Group. We need to tackle the old, problematic projects. In my view, the most urgent issues are the unfinished building at Flower Beach and the traffic problem at The Tower of Light," Cecilia handed a file to Rose. "Get all the details of these two projects sorted out by today. We'll have a department meeting at 10 AM tomorrow."
"Yes." Rose nodded and, as she was about to leave, asked, "Mrs. Whitaker, do you still want black coffee?"
"Yes, thank you," Cecilia replied, then asked, "Augustus, what would you like to drink?"
Augustus replied, "Water."
Cecilia looked up.
Augustus explained, "I need to stay alert and in peak physical condition."
Sometimes Cecilia really thought Augustus was excessively meticulous.
Of course, she wouldn't disrupt his habits. She told Rose, "Prepare a glass of water for Augustus."
"Yes." Rose left.
Cecilia also immersed herself in work.
She thought for a moment and made a call, "Mr. Alexander."
"Mrs. Whitaker," Gilbert responded politely.
Cecilia asked, "Do you know anything about Roy?"
"I've heard of him."
"Does he have any connections with our upper management or board members?" Cecilia asked directly.
Instead of having Rose spend a lot of time investigating, she decided to ask the HR department directly.
Cecilia said, "I haven't received any such information. I only know he has a bad attitude and doesn't take most people seriously."
Gilbert said, "But he listens to Isadora."
"So you suspect Roy is connected to someone in upper management, who in turn has close ties with Mr. Lockhart?" Gilbert immediately understood Cecilia's implication.
"Yes."
"I might need some time to look into it," Gilbert said.
"No need," Cecilia declined.
She had asked Gilbert because he might know the inside story. If he did, she wouldn't need to investigate further. But if he didn't, she wouldn't waste his time.
She said directly, "What would happen if I just fired him?"
"Did you just start working?" Clearly, Gilbert didn't agree.
He even thought Cecilia's suggestion was too bold.
Firing an employee without a valid reason could severely damage the company's reputation.
Cecilia asked, "Can you think of a more direct and effective way to make everyone comply with our personnel arrangements?"
"Not at the moment," Gilbert had to admit.
"So we can only start by dismissing him to set an example for others."
"This method, if used well, can be highly effective. If not, you'll become the company's scapegoat," Gilbert warned.
"I understand," Cecilia said clearly. "I know what I'm doing."
"I will fully support you." Gilber had to comply.
Cecilia instructed, "Within half an hour, spread the news of Roy's dismissal throughout the company."
Gilber replied, "Okay."
After giving the instructions, Cecilia didn't say more.
She put down her phone and continued working.
An hour later, or maybe less than an hour, her office door was suddenly pushed open.
Cecilia's eyes flickered. She looked up and saw the furious Roy.
Roy said furiously, "How dare you fire me! Without any reason, how dare you fire me! I've worked here for twenty years, and you think you can just kick me out?! If you don't give me a reason today, I won't let you leave this office!"
Roy's menacing appearance and every word were a threat to Cecilia.
At that moment, Cecilia was suddenly very grateful she had accepted Alaric's arrangement for a bodyguard.
She saw Augustus already standing beside Roy, ready to subdue him if he made any move!
Because of this, Cecilia could speak boldly and without consequence, "I am the heiress of the Lockhart Group. If I don't like someone, I can certainly fire them!"
