Chapter 372 A Thousand Miles of Tenderness (4)

The night was hella dark.

Harborvale ain't got the nightlife of Serenovia City. No moonlight, just pitch black everywhere.

Cecilia was chillin' against Alaric's chest, vibing to his strong heartbeat.

Who would've guessed that when Alaric bounced, she couldn't sleep for a whole week?

Cecilia felt like something was off without him around.

She wrapped her arms around him, making Alaric tense up.

Cecilia instantly regretted it.

She thought she shouldn't have tried to get all flirty.

This could go south real quick.

But hey, too late now.

Alaric pulled her in, his lips already close to hers.

Cecilia didn't get how guys worked; even a little touch could set them off...

"Alaric, if you keep this up, I'm gonna die right here!" Cecilia snapped.

Alaric held her tighter and chuckled.

Cecilia was pissed.

What was so funny? She was serious.

Luckily, he let her go. "Alright, I'll stop. Get some sleep, rest up."

Cecilia always felt like Alaric's words had some hidden meaning!

Alaric lay next to her, hands behind his head, trying not to touch her.

They drifted off quietly.

Sleeping together in a weird place, it was kinda nice.

It made Cecilia think of Dominic from her past life.

Dominic's climb in the noble family took him to Astralton City. Back then, she'd go to Astralton City to see him and crash for a few days. Looking back, she felt so dumb. She remembered once she wanted to surprise Dominic and didn't tell him she was coming. That time, she saw another woman at Dominic's place, his assistant. She didn't catch them in the act and trusted Dominic, so she bought their story that they were just working.

If she had even a bit of doubt, she wouldn't have been played by Dominic.

Later, she even agreed not to show up unannounced again.

Dominic said he had a lot of work and was afraid he couldn't hang out with her, so he asked her to give him a heads-up before coming.

In her past life, she believed everything Dominic said.

Cecilia moved closer to Alaric again.

Alaric's throat moved slightly.

Cecilia knew he couldn't resist teasing, but she did it anyway.

"Alaric." Cecilia wrapped her arms around his waist.

Alaric responded, his voice clearly strained.

"I'm kinda grateful for everything I've been through," Cecilia said softly.

Alaric frowned.

"Because it led me to you," Cecilia murmured.

It led her to meet Alaric so perfectly.

She even felt a bit thankful for Dominic's coldness. Without him, she wouldn't have met Alaric.

Thinking of the distance between them in her past life, Cecilia's heart suddenly ached.

The thought of their past lives as mere strangers filled her with a deep sadness.

She wondered, 'In her past life, where did Alaric end up?

And who was the woman Alaric loved in the end? Would he treat her as well as he treated her now?'

Would they have kids?

Cecilia couldn't help but squeeze Alaric tighter.

Right now, she was stubbornly, persistently hung up on it.

Alaric hugged Cecilia back.

He whispered in her ear, "We'll be together forever."

It was like a promise.

Alaric was pledging forever.

Cecilia responded with a heavy heart.

They had to be together forever!

The next day, when Cecilia opened her eyes, Alaric was gone.

She just stared at the empty sheets, kinda lost in thought.

Last night, she didn't even know when she finally knocked out.

Her last memory was them holding each other, then she was out.

Cecilia slept like a rock.

She stretched lazily and figured it must be late.

When she grabbed her phone to check the time, she was shocked at how "late" it was.

It was already 3 PM.

How long had she been out?!

Cecilia had never slept till the afternoon before, no matter how late she stayed up.

Last night really took it out of her.

She sat up in bed and saw a note on the bedside table.

Was Alaric showing off his fancy handwriting?!

She picked up the note and read it, "Went to work. Order takeout when you wake up. I won't work late tonight, I'll be back on time and take you out for some local eats. Oh, and wear more clothes, don't catch a cold, especially when picking up the takeout. —Alaric."

Cecilia couldn't help but laugh at the note.

What did he mean by "especially when picking up the takeout"?

Clearly, he was reminding her not to wear too little in front of others.

He was really sneaky.

Cecilia put down the note and obediently put on a conservative set of loungewear, then got up to wash up.

Her back was sore, and she wondered if the bed was too hard.

After washing up, she ordered takeout on her phone while walking to the living room.

Cecilia flopped on the couch.

She had slept well, but she still felt tired.

She ordered takeout and lay on the bed, feeling a bit bored.

These days, Cecilia really didn't want to work at all; she just wanted Alaric.

Thinking about it, she sent a message to Alaric: [I just woke up.]

He quickly replied: [Did you order takeout?]

[I did.]

[Did you dress properly?]

[I did.]

[Send me a photo.]

[Are you sure?]

[Hurry.] Alaric urged.

Cecilia was speechless.

She got up from the couch, found a full-length mirror in the room, and took a photo. Just as she was about to send it to Alaric, a mischievous smile appeared on her lips.

She couldn't always let Alaric lead her by the nose.

She unbuttoned a few buttons of her loungewear, deliberately exposing her collarbone and shoulders, with some parts even faintly visible.

Cecilia took a photo in front of the mirror, then she sent it to Alaric.

No need to guess, Alaric must be freaking out over there.

Cecilia saw the typing indicator in the chat box and quickly sent another photo, this time properly dressed. [Sorry, sent the wrong one, this is the right one.] After a while, Alaric sent an angry emoji.

Cecilia smiled triumphantly.

Just as she was about to put down her phone, Alaric sent another message: [So who was the first photo originally meant for?]

Cecilia suddenly felt like she had dug a hole for herself.
