Chapter 710 Chaotic Situation (15) Francis's Reminder

On the island, Cecilia sat on a lounge chair in the garden of the villa, watching the waves beyond the island, the vast ocean stretching endlessly. It truly was a place anyone would love.

Her eyes flickered as she noticed a figure suddenly appearing behind her.

Francis stood next to her, and they both looked out in the direction beyond the island.

Francis said, "I grew up here, spending most of my time sitting here, staring at the endless ocean. Back then, I always wondered when Alaric would come, if he would appear while I was watching."

Cecilia's throat tightened.

She could almost imagine a lonely, indifferent little boy sitting here all by himself, waiting for his family.

"Over time, I seem to have forgotten how I felt back then, and I seem to have accepted that everything is solitary." Francis chuckled lightly. His smile didn't seem self-deprecating or happy; it was just that he felt he should smile at that moment, so he did.

"You really long to leave here, don't you?" Cecilia said softly.

"I used to long for it, but now it seems I don't have such high expectations anymore," Francis said coldly. "I don't know when it started, but I stopped having high aspirations for many things. Sometimes I even wonder, what is the point of living? Alaric and the others work so hard to regain the power of the Royal Family of Whitaker, but what then? Will holding the power of the Yakurosean Empire really bring happiness?"

Cecilia turned to look at Francis.

She hadn't expected him to have such thoughts.

Wasn't he supposed to be the one who wanted success the most?

Because of the hatred of the Royal Family of Whitaker.

"Do you think I'm despicable? Everyone is working hard for me, and yet I am not grateful," Francis said with a cold smile.

Cecilia shook her head. "I'm not you; I don't know what you've been through, so I have no right to judge. But there's one thing I think I can tell you: everything the Royal Family of Whitaker is doing is not just to gain the power of the Yakurosean Empire. More importantly, it's to return all the suffering they once endured! Mr. Whitaker and Mrs. Whitaker's deaths need someone to bear the blame. The many loyalists who died for the Royal Family of Whitaker need someone to bear the blame."

"The things you can understand, I can't," Francis said self-deprecatingly.

Cecilia didn't know why Francis had such negative thoughts.

Alaric always said Francis was the most suitable heir because he was rational, but she always felt that Francis was not just rational; he was indifferent to the world. He seemed to see through everything, or rather, he had no interest in anything, so he wouldn't act impulsively.

"I'm not here to complain to you," Francis smiled, and the previous emotion seemed to pass in a flash.

He really didn't seem like a sentimental person.

He faced everything with emotions only on his face, as if they never reached his heart.

For example, his constant anger at Gideon's arrival during this period.

It was all an act for Gideon.

"I'm just saying, my life is more important than yours," Francis said bluntly.

Cecilia pursed her lips.

She had guessed it.

When a choice had to be made, the chosen one would definitely be Francis.

She didn't know how she would feel when truly facing this dilemma, whether she would be desperate or resentful.

At least for now, she couldn't bring herself to hate Francis.

As for Alaric, that was something for later.

Maybe they wouldn't even have the chance to meet again.

It seemed too early to talk about hate now.

"Whether it's Alaric, Cassius, or anyone else, including Dashiell, who grew up with you, and the Royal Family of Whitaker's army in this rescue mission, their primary choice to protect will be me," Francis said calmly, without any discernible emotion.

Cecilia didn't think he was boasting.

"In other words, their focus will be on me. If there's danger, I won't die, but you might," Francis said clearly.

Cecilia smiled.

She was also trying to relax her emotions. "So you're trying to make me jealous."

"I just want to tell you, in this situation, what you need to do is, don't worry about me," Francis said bluntly.

Cecilia's eyes flickered.

"No matter what happens to me, there will be countless people to save me. You shouldn't be forced to put my safety first because of the Royal Family of Whitaker's mission and responsibilities! You shouldn't bear the burden of everything related to the Royal Family of Whitaker; you are a victim!" Francis said word by word.

Cecilia smiled.

She hadn't expected it.

After all this time, the first person to give her warmth wasn't Alaric, but Francis.

She said, "Don't worry, I'm not as noble as you think."

Francis also smiled. "I'm really afraid you all value my life too much. I'm not as attached to this world as you think. Of course..."

Francis saw Cecilia getting a bit emotional.

He quickly added, "I don't have depression, nor suicidal tendencies. I just think that living should involve feelings, not numbness."

Cecilia didn't know what to say.

She always felt that Francis wasn't really happy.

He clearly depended on Alaric a lot, yet he could live well on his own.

Was he really good at pretending, or were his feelings truly cold?

"Didn't expect you two to get along so well," a voice suddenly came from behind.

Francis's expression changed instantly, so did Cecilia's.

He turned to look at Gideon. "I hate Cecilia less than I hate you. She was just forced; you are the real culprit."

"You're quite magnanimous," Gideon commented.

Francis didn't even bother to look at Gideon again. He got up and left.

Gideon didn't seem to be there for Francis.

He looked at Cecilia and sat down on the chair next to her.

Cecilia was generally very quiet.

She wouldn't take the initiative to ask anything.

Whether Cecilia asked or not, if he wanted to say something, he would say it. If he didn't, it wouldn't matter if Cecilia asked.

"Tomorrow, Alaric has arranged everything for me," Gideon said directly.

Cecilia didn't respond.

"Tomorrow, I will leave here."

"Are you warning me not to act rashly?" Cecilia sneered. "This island is full of your people inside and out. Even if I managed to escape the villa, I couldn't leave the island. Do you want me to jump into the sea?"

"I just want to say, tomorrow we might be saying goodbye forever."

Cecilia's eyes tightened.

"I'm not saying I'm going to kill you," Gideon said with a cold smile. "I'm afraid I might die."

"Are you so lacking in confidence?" Cecilia asked.

"Everything has risks," Gideon said coldly.

"So what are you trying to say?" Cecilia raised an eyebrow.
