Chapter 397 As Long as the Child is Mine

Ophelia moved into the Lockhart Mansion.

Cecilia and Theodore headed back to the company to ink a deal with the Kingsley Group.

When Theodore saw the contract, he shot a look at Cecilia.

He was totally floored and couldn't even speak.

Penelope came to sign the contract; Nathaniel, of course, wouldn't show up himself, so Penelope brought the authorization and signed it right there.

While signing, Penelope was practically grinding her teeth.

Cecilia acted like she didn't notice.

Theodore also played it cool and said, "Penelope, thanks for coming in person."

Penelope glared at Theodore and snorted.

Then she grabbed the signed contract and stormed out, fuming.

Cecilia watched Penelope's back, feeling a sweet sense of satisfaction.

Back in the day, Penelope used to throw her weight around in front of her. She had been tormenting Cecilia with tricks and spreading nasty rumors about her, which really trashed her reputation!

"Cecilia, there's a board meeting in half an hour. You gotta be there," Theodore said, clearly in a great mood.

Cecilia chuckled, "Dad, you just wanna show off."

"With such an awesome daughter, how can I not show off?" Theodore said like it was the most obvious thing in the world. "Don't forget to come."

"Okay." Cecilia also wanted to stroke Theodore's ego a bit.

Theodore headed back to his office first, and Cecilia went back to hers.

She thought for a moment and decided to call Alaric.

She was in a really good mood today and wanted to share it with him.

"Honey." Alaric answered the phone smoothly.

Cecilia was a bit embarrassed, but she didn't push him away. She said, "Are you busy?"

"Not really." Alaric's deep voice sounded super affectionate. "I've been thinking about you."

"Cut it out," Cecilia said.

He chuckled softly and said, "You called me first, doesn't that mean you miss me?"

"No." Cecilia denied.

"You're lying," Alaric said.

"I called to tell you that I almost drove Dominic crazy this time!" Cecilia said with some pride. "And I felt the need to share it with someone."

"Doesn't that mean you miss me?" Alaric said confidently.

Cecilia thought he could be really full of himself sometimes.

But she had to admit she missed him.

"When will you be back?" Cecilia decided to stop pretending.

"Do you want me to come back?" Alaric didn't answer directly.

"Can you answer me directly?" Cecilia was a bit annoyed.

"About a full six months," Alaric said.

Cecilia was visibly bummed out.

"Here, I won't be making any achievements, so the city hall has no excuse to call me back early. And the reason I'm not making any achievements is that I don't want to dig a hole for myself. You're smart enough to know what I mean."

Cecilia pursed her lips.

She totally got what Alaric meant.

The more he did, the more mistakes he could make. Only by doing nothing could he avoid being caught.

For the next six months, only by staying out of trouble could he safely get through it.

"Cecilia." Alaric called her name affectionately.

Cecilia felt teased by him, even in the simple act of him calling her name.

"Stay home and wait for me," Alaric said.

"Okay." Cecilia nodded.

What else could she do but wait for him?

"By the way." Cecilia suddenly thought of something.

"Yeah?" Alaric was curious.

"Today, Vivienne kept yapping about continuing the family line, saying only Andrew could do that and basically threatening my grandma to keep him around. I got so pissed, I blurted out that my future kids would have the last name Lockhart too. They can carry on the family name just fine."

"And then?" Alaric asked.

"Then grandma and my parents were over the moon," Cecilia said cautiously. "I figured once I said it, I couldn't take it back, and I didn't want to let them down, so..."

"So what?" Alaric pressed.

"So in the future, can our first kid have the last name Lockhart?" Cecilia asked.

Even though she was pretty sure Alaric would be cool with it, saying it out loud made her a bit nervous.

"The first kid?" Alaric zeroed in on the key point.

"I'll have two in the future. One with the last name Lockhart, and one with the last name Whitaker. Is that cool?" Cecilia asked.

"Of course." Alaric agreed right away.

"Really?" Cecilia was stoked.

She didn't expect Alaric to agree so easily.

And he sounded like he was in a good mood.

"Really." Alaric confirmed.

"Alaric, I..." Cecilia was getting emotional.

In a traditional place like the Yakurosean Empire, guys usually had some hang-ups about the kid's last name.

"It doesn't matter whose last name they have, as long as they're mine," Alaric said with a laugh.

"Alaric!" Cecilia was speechless.

He was so annoying.

He made it sound like she would cheat on him.

Was she that kind of person?

"Fine, I have a meeting to attend!" Cecilia said, annoyed.

"Cecilia, I love you," Alaric suddenly confessed.

A deep and heartfelt confession.

Cecilia's heart started racing again.

At this moment, shouldn't she be thanking him? After all, he agreed to let the kid have her last name.

Why did it feel like he was the one who was moved?

What was he moved by?

Cecilia paused.

Could it be that he was moved because she agreed to have his kids?

Cecilia never thought about not having kids with Alaric. She only resisted before because she felt there was no love between them. Once they confirmed their feelings for each other, having kids was the next logical step, right?

Cecilia's heart was touched again.

She remembered how Dominic used to give her birth control pills to prevent her from getting pregnant...

She said, "Alaric, I love you."

Cecilia really did love him very much.

After saying it, she quickly hung up the phone.

Because at that moment, her face was already red.

Despite the long-standing nature of their bond, and the intimacy they shared, every time she faced Alaric, Cecilia would still blush.

After hanging up the phone, it took Cecilia a long time to calm down.

When Alaric came back, she would definitely treat him well.

Penelope left the Lockhart Group and sat in the car, feeling so frustrated.

Just thinking about Cecilia's smug face made her want to strangle her.

When did Cecilia become so arrogant and unmanageable?

In Penelope's memory, Cecilia was still the woman who was played around by others. How did she suddenly become so uncontrollable?

She originally thought the construction of Innovation Arc would be a big win for the Kingsley Group!

In the end, they suffered a huge loss, and all the benefits went to the Lockhart Group!

The more she thought about it, the angrier she got!

She gritted her teeth and called Dominic. "Dominic, I'm really going crazy!"
