Chapter 139 Seraphina is Very Lucky

"She's with Sebastian." Atticus glanced around. "She should be in the hall. If you want, I can have someone find her."

"No need, I was just curious," Cecilia smiled, looking relaxed. "Mr. Everhart, what do you think of Sebastian?"

"At first, I didn't want Seraphina with him. I thought my daughter should be with someone of equal status. But then I realized no wealthy family's son would be interested in Seraphina. So, I didn't stop her from dating him. Honestly, I used to look down on Sebastian, but his ambition and hard work have impressed me over time. The Everhart family business will eventually need a successor. Dashiell made it clear he won't take over, so it's up to Seraphina. But she's unreliable. It's actually reassuring to have Sebastian around," Atticus evaluated their relationship objectively.

Cecilia listened quietly.

She believed Sebastian wasn't as simple as he seemed; he had fooled everyone, including her from a past life.

They chatted a bit longer.

Theodore said, "Cecilia, let me introduce you to some of my business friends."

Theodore was clearly eager to start grooming her.

Cecilia naturally let go of Alaric's hand.

In front of Theodore, Alaric was much more well-behaved.

He didn't dare to force her in the slightest.

When she let go, Alaric obediently did too.

"Alaric, want to join us?" Theodore asked casually.

"I'd like to, but my brother's over there. I'll go say hi," Alaric excused himself wisely.

In high society, there were still many taboos.

For example, at business events, even between spouses, it was important to avoid certain situations.

Otherwise, there was a risk of being seen as prying into each other's assets.

Alaric seemed very adept at reading people and situations.

Cecilia watched Alaric walk away.

She followed her father into the business social circle he had established.

She navigated the social scene with ease under her father's guidance.

From a distance, she appeared radiant and dazzling.

Seraphina stood afar, watching Cecilia.

She had noticed Cecilia and Alaric as soon as they entered. If Sebastian hadn't been by her side, she would have gone to find Cecilia. But she felt that in such a setting, Sebastian needed her more, so she chose to stay with him.

"Cecilia seems to have changed a lot," Sebastian noticed Seraphina's gaze and looked over too.

He saw a confident and dazzling Cecilia, completely different from the one who used to shy away from the spotlight.

"Yeah." Seraphina nodded. "I feel like Cecilia has become invincible."

"Maybe Dominic's situation hit her hard, causing such a big change," Sebastian speculated.

Seraphina nodded, agreeing with Sebastian's view.

She thought that if one day she were also hurt by love, she might react the same way.

Or maybe, she would choose to end it all.

Of course, she didn't think Sebastian would ever betray her.

She had always been lucky, except for not having a mother since childhood. Everything else had been smooth sailing. Even in school, she barely passed exams by luck.

She believed she was just very lucky, so she couldn't possibly encounter a douchebag.

"Anthony Thomas is here," Sebastian noted as a middle-aged man entered the banquet hall. "We're discussing a project loan. Want to come with me?"

"Sure," Seraphina replied, planning to stick by Sebastian all evening.

In the Everhart family's territory, she wanted everyone to know about her relationship with Sebastian.

As they walked over, Anthony passed them, extending his hand enthusiastically. "Mr. Rainier, you're back."

Sebastian's face showed a hint of embarrassment.

Seraphina turned to see Anthony eagerly shaking Dashiell's hand. "Are you planning to join House of Everhart Bank to help your uncle manage it?"

"No," Dashiell said, "I have no plans to join the bank."

"Maybe a couple more years? But young people have their own ideas, and I support that. I just happen to have a loan contract with your bank. If you were joining House of Everhart Bank, I'd like to discuss it with you."

"Sebastian's in charge of that. You can talk to him directly," Dashiell said, clearly noticing the two people beside him.

He signaled Anthony with his eyes to find Sebastian.

Anthony smiled and said, "We've already had a few meetings. It's almost settled."

"That's good." Dashiell seemed unwilling to say more, maintaining a certain distance. "My friends are over there. I'll head over."

Anthony replied, "Alright, you go ahead. Hope you take over the bank soon and have my back."

Dashiell wanted to explain.

But then he suddenly felt there was no need.

After all, explaining wouldn’t change Seraphina's perception.

Of course, it wasn’t surprising that Anthony thought he would take over House of Everhart Bank.

It wasn’t just Anthony; almost everyone present believed that House of Everhart Bank would eventually be his.

The reason stemmed from Seraphina's adamant defiance to date Sebastian. Atticus, in a fit of rage, declared that if she stayed with Sebastian, she wouldn't get a penny of the Everhart family’s fortune, which would all go to his stepson, Dashiell.

Seraphina wouldn't be threatened by Atticus.

The more Atticus threatened, the more determined she was to be with Sebastian.

Once they were together, Atticus’s words became believable.

It wasn’t just those angry words that made everyone believe Atticus would leave the family fortune to Dashiell, who wasn’t related by blood. It was also because Atticus's love for Magnolia was well-known. As long as Magnolia wanted it, anything was possible. Plus, Seraphina was indeed unreliable, indulging in pleasure without any intention of managing the family business. Handing the family business to Dashiell seemed logical, better than giving it to Sebastian.

In high society, people still looked down on someone like Sebastian, who came from a poor background.

So, when Dashiell left, Anthony also moved on to socialize elsewhere, without any intention of greeting Sebastian.

Seraphina was furious. Was everyone blind? Couldn't they see Sebastian's efforts and hard work?

Just because of his background, he was considered inferior and looked down upon!

"Seraphina," Sebastian seemed to sense her emotions and said gently, "Don't be angry. I'm fine."

One day, he would make everyone here unable to reach his level!

A cold, ruthless glint flashed in Sebastian's eyes, but disappeared in an instant.
