Chapter 784 Conflict Arises Again
Cecilia had thought it through.
Her heart would ache, forcing herself to do something cruel, that kind of inner torment would be overwhelming.
She just lay in bed, waiting for everything to come.
However, an afternoon passed.
The doctor didn't come to tell her the surgery time; instead, George came in with a pot of fragrant Clam Chowder.
He seemed to be in a good mood.
It was because she had mentioned wanting to eat something.
For a long time, while they lived under the same roof, Cecilia hardly ate anything. She didn't have any specific cravings.
Now that she suddenly ordered something, it meant she wanted to eat, which was a good sign. Wanting to eat would make her body better and the baby healthier.
"Ms. Lockhart, try this." George served a bowl, "I filtered out the oil on top, so it won't be greasy. See if it's too salty."
Cecilia's throat moved slightly.
She didn't want to drink the soup.
It was just an excuse.
She also didn't want to face George's gentle treatment.
She was afraid that after doing what she had to do, it would hurt George's feelings.
At that moment, she still took the bowl, starting to feel a bit nervous.
She drank slowly.
George watched her expression expectantly, "How does it taste?"
"Yes," Cecilia responded, "It's very good."
"If you like it, I can make it for you every day," George said quickly, "Today was a bit rushed, so it’s not perfect. If you want it tomorrow, I can make it even better."
"This is fine, just like this," Cecilia commented.
But George thought he could make it better tomorrow.
Cecilia finished a bowl.
George wanted to serve her more, but Cecilia refused. She said, "I need to rest. Can you call the doctor for me? I have something to ask him."
"Okay." George quickly went out to call.
After a while.
Her attending physician, Dr. Marc Murray, didn't come; instead, his assistant did.
At that moment, Cecilia knew something was up.
"Ms. Lockhart, Dr. Murray is off duty. You can talk to me if you need anything," Marc's assistant said respectfully.
Cecilia's eyes narrowed slightly.
She knew very well that for a VIP patient like her, once an attending physician was confirmed, they would be available 24/7 at the hospital. There was no reason for them to be off duty unless Marc did it on purpose.
She said, "Nothing."
Cecilia knew very well that talking to Marc's assistant was pointless.
Marc's assistant was also very aware, probably briefed in advance, and left respectfully without saying much.
George, on the other hand, was a bit worried, "Ms. Lockhart, are you feeling unwell?"
"Nothing, I just wanted to ask when I can be discharged."
"Don't worry, the doctor said for safety reasons, you need to stay for a few more days. If everything is fine, you can be discharged then," George reassured.
"Okay, I understand." Cecilia nodded, "George, I want to sleep for a while. Can you leave for a bit?"
"But Ms. Lockhart, you haven't eaten anything, just a bowl of soup..."
"I'll eat after I wake up."
George hesitated but nodded.
He walked out of the ward.
Cecilia immediately called Alaric.
It was probably dinner time.
She called once, no answer.
Then she called again, and it was answered.
A female voice came through, "Hello."
A light, clear voice.
Polite in tone.
Cecilia never thought her first interaction with Juniper would be through Alaric's phone.
She unconsciously gripped her phone tightly and said, "Hello, Ms. Monroe."
"Is this Cecilia?" Juniper called her by her first name.
Not politely addressing her as "Ms. Lockhart," so it didn't feel particularly distant.
Nor did she, like Lyra, deliberately call her "Cecilia" to seem close.
In their unfamiliar situation, such a deliberate address would seem insincere.
In that moment, Cecilia felt that Juniper was even more formidable than Lyra.
Perhaps Juniper was truly the hidden smart one in the Monroe family.
Maybe it was her young age or her low profile that made everyone overlook Juniper's presence.
Cecilia pursed her lips and said in the calmest tone, "I'm looking for Alaric."
"He's drinking with my dad and Alfonso. Hold on, I'll get him."
"Thank you."
Juniper seemed to chuckle lightly.
She didn't say too many polite words, giving off a generous vibe.
She heard a faint voice on the other end, "Alaric, your phone."
Then slowly.
Alaric's voice came through, "Cecilia."
Cecilia was actually curious about how Alaric had her name saved in his phone.
What would make Juniper unsure it was her calling?
She also wondered.
How close had Alaric and Juniper become?
To the point where he would let Juniper hold his phone.
For so many years, even when they slept in the same bed, Alaric kept his phone very close.
Times had changed.
She shouldn't dwell on the past.
After all, it was all hurtful.
She didn't need to make herself suffer.
So she could ask him very calmly, "What did you tell the hospital?"
"I said no one is allowed to perform an abortion on you," Alaric said bluntly.
Cecilia knew it was Alaric causing trouble.
She was indeed too hasty.
She shouldn't have rushed Marc to schedule the surgery as soon as Alaric left.
She should have waited until Alaric was busy with his inauguration ceremony tomorrow and had no time to deal with her before making the request.
She was too hasty.
So hasty that she didn't consider everything thoroughly.
She just wanted to end the pain quickly.
She was afraid she would regret it if she delayed.
"Anytime is not allowed," Alaric spoke again, as if knowing what Cecilia was thinking, "Today, tomorrow, any time in the future, no doctor will perform the surgery on you. I made all the arrangements as soon as I left your ward."
Cecilia gritted her teeth.
So it wasn't that she was too hasty, but that Alaric had already made all the preparations.
"Cecilia, I said you would give birth, and you will give birth," Alaric said clearly, "Don't overthink it, take good care of yourself."
Take good care of herself.
Cecilia sneered.
She said, "Alaric, the baby is in my belly. If the doctor won't perform the surgery, I have many ways to get rid of it. It would just make me suffer more!"
"Don't doubt my ability."
"And don't doubt my ability!" Cecilia abruptly hung up the phone.
If the conversation couldn't be harmonious, then silence was better.
Between her and Alaric, she didn't know when it started, but there was no need for discussion anymore!
