Chapter 793 Negotiation
Cecilia listened calmly to Juniper's words.
Her voice was clear and sincere, completely different from her sister Lyra, who was always aggressive and arrogant.
Most men would probably prefer someone like Juniper, who is petite and cute.
Cecilia chuckled lightly.
Juniper was definitely several levels above Lyra.
What seemed like friendly words were actually a veiled insult, implying that Alaric was only infatuated with her because of her looks.
"I really didn't expect that the first time we met, you would look so haggard. In my memory, you were that glamorous woman, adored by everyone. Why torture yourself like this?" Juniper said with some regret.
She genuinely seemed to feel sorry for Cecilia's current state.
Cecilia knew what she looked like now.
This morning, when she got up to go to the bathroom, she was almost scared by her own reflection.
Her face was very thin, and except for her abdomen, her whole body was emaciated.
Her face was bloodless, and her dark circles were terrifyingly severe.
Cecilia's current appearance was far from attractive; she looked downright awful.
She smiled again and said, "Ms. Monroe, why don't you tell me the purpose of your visit today?"
She had heard enough of those hypocritical words.
Juniper looked at Cecilia. It was their first face-to-face interaction, and she had prepared well.
When she received Dashiell's call yesterday asking her to come to Serenovia City, she knew she would be meeting Cecilia.
She was actually very curious about Cecilia, curious about what kind of person could make Alaric so infatuated, even to the point of recklessness.
So she readily agreed to Dashiell's request.
When she saw Cecilia in the hallway just now, she recognized her immediately.
Although she had changed a lot from her impression, in such a high-end ward, under so much protection, it could only be Cecilia. She deliberately ignored her to give Cecilia a sense of humiliation. She knew very well that in a confrontation, the last thing you should do is start off on a lower footing.
And now was no different.
She had laid so much groundwork just to gain the upper hand.
But Cecilia was indeed not simple. Despite her sincerity, Cecilia was still full of suspicion, even sneering at her friendliness.
Juniper remained calm, pulling out a beautiful smile. She said, "Yes, I came here today with a purpose. I want to persuade you."
Cecilia looked at her.
"You should know that Alaric and I are in a political marriage, without any feelings. We're together for the sake of interests. So, you don't need to be so hostile towards Alaric; he still likes you," Juniper said sincerely.
"Do you mind that your husband has always had someone he likes?" Cecilia asked Juniper in return.
Juniper was stunned.
She hadn't expected Cecilia to suddenly shift the conflict onto her.
It was clearly a matter between Alaric and Cecilia, but now she was being dragged into it.
Juniper didn't answer immediately.
Cecilia spoke indifferently, "You probably do mind."
She seemed to be helping Juniper answer the question.
In fact, she was telling Juniper that she knew very well that Juniper couldn't possibly be kind to her and didn't need to pretend.
Juniper pursed her lips and said, "Yes, I do mind. But because there's no emotional attachment yet, I don't mind too much. What I care more about is Alaric's future and the future of our family. So I came here today to ask you not to torment Alaric. The Yakurosean Empire has many things that need his attention. He shouldn't waste all his time on you."
"So your purpose is for me to live well with Alaric?" Cecilia raised an eyebrow.
"Yes," Juniper nodded. "I'm here to ask you to get along well with Alaric."
"You really are more magnanimous than I thought," Cecilia said with a smile, her tone tinged with sarcasm.
She clearly didn't believe it.
Juniper bit her lip. After a few exchanges, she knew very well how smart Cecilia was. It was impossible for her not to see through her pretense.
She said bluntly, "It's not magnanimity; it's necessity. I have no choice but to endure. Alaric likes you now, no matter what, and no one can change that, not even me. And if I want to please him, I have to cater to his preferences. Otherwise, things won't go well between Alaric and me. In a way, I'm not just bringing you two together; I'm also bringing myself and Alaric together."
Cecilia believed this.
A smart woman would indeed make such a choice.
"That's one aspect. On the other hand, Alaric's current behavior is not good for him or for our Monroe family. I need to persuade him to return to handle many official matters. The only person who can make him go back peacefully is you," Juniper said.
"So I hope you can stand from the perspective of the Yakurosean Empire, put aside personal feelings, and even if it means some grievances, please stay with Alaric."
"So in the end, Alaric's coercion of me becomes my fault," Cecilia sneered.
Juniper was indeed formidable.
Such a heavy accusation left her with no way to refute it.
"Cecilia, this is from a national perspective. Privately, you should also consider yourself," Juniper said bluntly.
Cecilia looked at her.
"If Alaric continues like this, do you think he can maintain his position as President of the Yakurosean Empire? If he falls, do you think your family won't be implicated? If Alaric loses his power, whether it's the Monroe family or another family in power, they will definitely eliminate all families related to Alaric."
"Now, Alaric has only taken the Lockhart Group. In fact, taking the Lockhart Group is a way to protect your family, so you won't be involved in the dark political wars anymore. With his current power, he can ensure your family's safety. But if his power disappears, none of you will escape."
Cecilia's eyes tightened, and she looked coldly at Juniper.
This was the strongest negotiator she had ever seen.
She really hit her where it hurt.
"So you're saying that not only should I not leave Alaric, but I should also please him. After all, my family's safety is entirely dependent on Alaric," Cecilia said coldly.
"Even if you don't want to accept it, that's the reality. Alaric's current position affects the lives and safety of many people. I hope you can think about it rationally," Juniper said, word by word, her expression very serious.
Cecilia pressed her lips tightly and didn't speak.
Juniper didn't say anything more.
Cecilia was so smart; she knew very well what choice to make!
