Chapter 124 Threatening with Death
After Rose left, Cecilia casually dialed Cassius's number. "Did you find out what I asked you to look into yesterday?"
"Would I dare slack off on something you assigned to me?" Cassius shot back.
"So, do you have any results?" Cecilia felt a surge of excitement.
She knew Cassius would come through, but she didn't expect him to be this quick.
Cassius cut to the chase. "Roy's daughter, Wendy Brooks, is 21. She's a sophomore at Serenovia City Media University, majoring in acting. She's dead set on breaking into the entertainment industry. But Wendy knows looks alone won't cut it. So, at a Lockhart Group party, she attended with her dad, she seduced Charles. Now, she's his mistress."
Cecilia listened closely.
In her past life, she had no clue that Charles, already in his forties, had taken up with a college student.
Cassius continued, "Charles treats Wendy like a queen. He showered her with luxury goods and even bought her a sports car worth over $800,000. And it's not just Wendy; he's also very generous to her dad, Roy. That's why Roy's been so cocky at the Lockhart Group—Charles has been secretly backing him. If my info is right, Charles handles performance evaluations at Lockhart. Check if Roy's metrics are manually adjusted every month."
Cecilia was still reeling from Cassius's revelations.
How powerful was the Blackburn family, and how deep were their connections? Cassius not only uncovered Charles's role at Lockhart but also knew about their internal performance reviews!
"Don't worry, I won't go against the Lockhart Group," Cassius seemed to sense her thoughts. "Alaric won't allow it."
He meant that if Alaric gave the green light, he could easily take on the Lockhart Group.
Cecilia suddenly felt like she was in over her head.
Cassius said, "I'll send you the info on Wendy and Charles in a file. Check if there's anything else you need. If not, I'll get back to my other tasks."
"Okay, thanks," Cecilia replied.
She hung up, and a new email popped up in her inbox.
Cecilia opened it and downloaded the file.
Inside were all the documents about Wendy and Charles's affair.
This included records of Charles sending money to Wendy, buying her luxury goods and cars, their hotel stays, intimate photos, and even videos.
Cecilia reviewed it all, making sure nothing was missing, then messaged Cassius: [Perfect, thanks.]
He replied with an "OK" emoji.
Cecilia organized the files.
Rose pushed the door open. "Mrs. Whitaker, the chairman wants you on the top floor. Roy is causing a scene and insists on seeing you! He won't listen to anyone else."
Cecilia acknowledged this but continued organizing the files at her own pace.
"Mrs. Whitaker," Rose urged.
"Don't worry, Roy won't jump. Let him put on a bit more of a show," Cecilia replied.
Half an hour later.
After finishing up, Cecilia finally got up and left the office.
By then, Rose had calmed down. Her anxiety wouldn't help anyway.
The elevator went straight to the rooftop.
Cecilia, with Rose and Augustus by her side, hadn't even stepped out when they heard Roy's angry voice. "What does Cecilia mean? She's still not here! If I die, will she take responsibility? Mr. Lockhart, your daughter is being completely unreasonable!"
Theodore's face was grim. This incident could tarnish the company's reputation, and the media was already camped out at the entrance, held back by security.
Charles, not getting a response from Theodore, grew even more agitated. "Mr. Lockhart, if you can't bear to trouble your daughter, don't blame me for not giving her face. This is a matter of life and death, and I can't just sit by! I'm going to bring her up here personally. I want to see what makes her think she can ignore human life like this!"
"Mr. Wolf, there's no need; I'm here." Cecilia's tone was eerily calm in response to Charles's outburst.
Seeing Cecilia, Charles sneered. "I thought you didn't dare show your face! Hiding all this time."
"The one who doesn't dare show their face isn't me!" Cecilia smiled, her expression sending chills down everyone's spines.
Charles's face darkened. Having been in the business world for so many years, he wasn't about to be threatened by a woman in her twenties. He dismissed Cecilia's words and continued to shout, "Roy needs an explanation from you. You better speak properly. If someone dies, you'll be a murderer. Think carefully. Murderers in the Yakurosean Empire should pay with their lives."
Cecilia said, "Mr. Wolf, don't worry. If Roy jumps, I'll indeed pay with my life."
Charles was momentarily at a loss for words.
Cecilia didn't waste any more time with Charles and walked straight toward Roy.
"Cecilia," Theodore called out to her, worried someone might actually die.
"Don't worry," Cecilia smiled at Theodore.
He hesitated but decided to let her handle it.
Cecilia walked through the crowd and saw Roy standing on the rooftop railing. There was nothing behind him, so any slight movement could cause him to fall.
She calmly observed Roy.
Seeing Cecilia, Roy became extremely agitated. "Cecilia, why did you fire me? I've worked diligently at the Lockhart Group for twenty years. How could you fire me just like that?"
He grew more agitated, and everyone on the rooftop was scared by his emotions.
"Calm down, Roy. Let's talk this out," Charles quickly stepped in, nervously trying to calm him down.
"If Cecilia doesn't give me a reasonable explanation and a proper apology today, I'll jump from here. I mean it." As he spoke, he leaned back slightly.
Everyone screamed in fear, and the scene became chaotic.
"Cool off. Tell us what explanation you want from Cecilia, and we'll meet your demands immediately," Charles said, playing the good guy, showing leadership and responsibility.
"First, I want Cecilia to explain why she inexplicably transferred me from my original position and then fired me. Second, I want Cecilia to apologize to me!" Roy threatened fiercely, "Otherwise, I'll die right here!"
