Chapter 184 Counterattack

Cecilia knew she couldn't expect much from Alaric. He could ruin any good feelings she had for him in an instant.

At the Everhart Villa, Seraphina hung up the phone and jumped out of bed. She couldn't be late for her wedding photos today. She quickly changed and rushed out of her room, clearly in a hurry. Sebastian had texted her that he was already waiting at the door, and she didn't want to keep him waiting.

As she hurried down the hallway, she bumped into Dashiell at the corner, hitting the wall and feeling dizzy.

"Are you okay?" Dashiell asked, worried. He wanted to check if she was hurt.

"Don't touch me!" Seraphina shouted, making Dashiell freeze and awkwardly lower his hand.

"Do you need me to call a doctor?"

"No," Seraphina snapped, annoyed. Ever since Dashiell came back, she kept running into him. Was he stalking her, or was she just having bad luck?

She noticed the foundation smudged on Dashiell's shirt pocket, clearly from a woman's face. She pretended not to see it. After all, Dashiell was an adult, and hiring a prostitute occasionally was better than committing a crime. She was indifferent to such things, believing that different classes had different ways of living as long as it was consensual and not heinous.

She walked past Dashiell without another word.

Dashiell didn't try to approach her again, just felt her cold presence as she passed. Her urgency was gone, replaced by indifference. Apparently, she was going to see Sebastian; she wouldn't act the same as when she saw Dashiell.

Dashiell saw Sebastian waiting for Seraphina at the door. He returned to his room, immediately threw his clothes in the trash, and took a shower. Last night, he and Cassius went to a nightclub and drank a lot. Dashiell wasn't a good drinker, and Cassius's aggressive toasting got him drunk quickly. He trusted Cassius, who wouldn't harm him, but Cassius never thought about consequences.

Cassius sent him to a hotel with a woman. Dashiell didn't remember leaving the nightclub or ending up in a room with a stranger. When he woke up, he saw the woman taking off her bathrobe, probably planning to have sex with him.

He quickly got out of bed, remembering Cassius forcing that last drink on him, saying, "A one-night stand will make you realize it's not worth giving up so many women for Seraphina."

At first, he didn't get it, but now it was clear. Without a word, he kicked the woman out and even gave her hush money. He didn't want to deal with Cassius's questions or waste time explaining.

After kicking her out, he stayed at the hotel since it was already 3 AM. He was mostly sober but still felt off from the alcohol, so he decided to sleep there. He slept until late and then headed back, seeing Seraphina eagerly running towards Sebastian.

He sat in front of his computer, relying on the dense codes to forget everything.

Monday.

Cecilia was on her way to work. Honestly, work was easier than staying with Alaric. She couldn't understand how George endured Alaric's torment before she moved in.

At the office, she felt countless eyes on her, their gazes unusual. She sat in her chair as Rose reported on work.

After the report, Rose said, "Rebecca and Wendy are attending the Starlight Group's business district project launch today. After the Harmony Threads launch embarrassment, Rebecca's probably planning something more aggressive."

"Is the Starlight Group's business district construction real?" Cecilia asked.

"It's real. When you first asked, I checked with local departments. The Starlight Group bought the land but hadn't reported any plans. Yesterday, I got urgent news that the city planning department approved their project over the weekend. So, it's legit," Rose reported.

Cecilia pondered. Rebecca was desperate. She might have thought she could ruin Cecilia without actually building a business district, but realized that wasn't possible. With Cecilia's ties to Harmony Threads, they would definitely support her moving into the Tower of Light. Rebecca had no choice but to build a real business district to compete.

Rebecca was willing to do anything to crush Cecilia. Given the Starlight Group's lack of expertise in managing a high-end business district, Rebecca's actions could lead to mismanagement of the Starlight Mall.

Cecilia wasn't sympathetic. Since Rebecca was determined to make her suffer, she would use the same methods to make Rebecca fail miserably.

She gave Rose a look to leave. It wasn't about trust; some things didn't need to be known by everyone.
