Chapter 406 Cecilia Knows About Seraphina's Miscarriage

Actually, it wasn't because Magnolia looked all that scary now.

Seraphina had been used to it.

She just heard Magnolia say that Dashiell, even with his bum leg, drove like a maniac to chase her down...

But Dashiell stayed cool as a cucumber the whole time.

"Forget it." Magnolia saw Seraphina's red eyes and realized she might've overreacted a bit.

After all, Seraphina was resting now.

Magnolia, being a woman, totally got how much a miscarriage could mess up a woman's body.

She said, "You should chill and rest up. We'll talk when you're better."

"Yeah, rest up. We'll chat when you're better," Atticus jumped in. "Don't cry. It's bad for you."

Seraphina lay on the bed, turned over, and faced away from them.

She just didn't wanna say another word, nor did she want them to see her bummed out.

Seraphina would rather let everyone think she was heartless.

"You stay with Seraphina, I'll go check on Dashiell," Magnolia said to Atticus.

Magnolia knew how much the miscarriage hurt Dashiell.

But Dashiell was the type who wouldn't say anything.

He wouldn't let anyone feel bad because of him.

Right now, Dashiell was probably dealing with it all alone.

"Okay. You go ahead," Atticus quickly said. "The driver’s at the door, let him take you."

Magnolia nodded and got ready to leave.

"You all go," Seraphina said, still facing away from them. "Dad, you too. I feel worse with you here. Just go."

"How can you be alone?" Atticus said, worried.

"Why can't I be alone?" Seraphina got a bit agitated. "The doc said there's nothing serious. If everything's cool by tomorrow morning, I can leave. You go with her, I wanna be alone."

"Seraphina, I'm worried about you."

"What's there to worry about?" Seraphina urged, "Just go."

Atticus looked at Seraphina a few more times, and Magnolia said from the side, "She doesn't wanna see us, so let's go. Nothing's gonna happen in the hospital."

"Alright," Atticus gave in.

As he was about to leave with Magnolia, he reminded, "Seraphina, don't overthink it. You can have another kid. Just live well with Dashiell in the future."

Seraphina covered herself with the blanket.

How could they ever make a future together work?

She always felt that from the moment the child was lost, she and Dashiell were done.

After Atticus and Magnolia left together, Seraphina came out from under the blanket.

Her eyes turned red again at that moment.

Actually, the biggest reason she didn't want them to stay with her was that she didn't want them to see her sadness.

Losing her child, Seraphina wasn't as indifferent as she seemed.

In fact, she was kinda falling apart.

She picked up the phone and called Cecilia.

Cecilia was already asleep and answered the phone groggily, "Seraphina, it's so late..."

Seraphina burst into tears.

Cecilia was really speechless.

Seraphina had been crying every few days.

Was it true that pregnant women are naturally more fragile?

"What happened?" Cecilia rubbed her eyes. "Did you and Dashiell have a fight?"

"I had a miscarriage," Seraphina choked out, and after saying it, she broke down again.

Cecilia was stunned.

It took her a long time to react.

"Cecilia, I had a miscarriage, the baby is gone," Seraphina cried, her heart breaking.

Since they were kids, she always vented her emotions on Cecilia.

Seraphina just seemed to be used to leaning on her.

"Where are you?" Cecilia pushed down all her questions and asked, worried.

"I'm at the hospital," Seraphina replied.

"I'll come to you."

Cecilia hung up and immediately called Augustus.

Augustus was always wide awake whenever she called, "Mrs. Whitaker."

"I need to get to the hospital now, please come over," Cecilia said.

"Okay."

Cecilia quickly changed and rushed to the front door.

After waiting for 2 minutes, Augustus's car pulled up right in front of her.

Hearing Seraphina say she had a miscarriage, she felt some indescribable emotions.

Was it an accident?

Or... something planned?

Cecilia told herself to stay calm.

The car quickly got to the hospital, and Cecilia walked into the ward with Augustus.

Augustus waited outside the door.

When Seraphina saw Cecilia, her barely controlled tears started flowing again.

"Cecilia, I had a miscarriage," Seraphina cried in despair.

Cecilia swallowed the words of reproach she wanted to say.

She could see that Seraphina was genuinely heartbroken this time.

She walked to her bedside and hugged her. "It's okay. You can have another baby. Don't cry."

"But, I was already four months pregnant, I went through so much for her," Seraphina cried while speaking. "I always thought I didn't care about this child, but I didn't expect to be so sad when I lost her."

"Alright, I get it," Cecilia comforted. "You just had surgery, your health comes first. Be good, don't cry."

"But I can't control myself. When I think about the baby being gone, it feels like half of my heart is empty, I..." Seraphina choked with sobs.

Cecilia had no choice but to keep comforting her.

"Where's Dashiell?" Cecilia asked, trying to distract Seraphina.

"He came and then left," Seraphina said, wiping her tears.

She thought of Dashiell leaving so coldly.

Seraphina felt uneasy.

She knew he would be very angry, but she didn't seem to have the right to blame Dashiell.

"He left and left you alone?" Cecilia asked.

She wondered if Dashiell was really heartbroken.

"He left when Sebastian was here," Seraphina sniffled and answered.

"Sebastian? Why is he here?" Cecilia raised an eyebrow.

Cecilia had a feeling that this matter was not simple.

"Sebastian had a car accident. I came to the hospital after getting a call about his accident, and then I had a car accident myself, and the baby was gone. Sebastian came to see me when he heard the nurse mention it," Seraphina explained.

"Sebastian had a car accident?" Cecilia murmured.

Everything seemed so coincidental.

"I don't blame Sebastian, it was my decision to drive here," Seraphina quickly said.

Cecilia held back, still withholding some words.

She said, "Is Sebastian still in the hospital?"

"He should be. He was quite seriously injured," Seraphina said.

"Okay," Cecilia responded. "It's late, you should sleep. Your health is important."

"I can't sleep." Seraphina was too upset to drift off.

Cecilia coaxed, "Be good, lie down."

Seraphina obediently lay down.
