Chapter 189 Is Cecilia a Bit Jealous?
"Dad, Cecilia's really gunning for us," Juliana said, clearly upset.
Smart move using "us" instead of "me."
"What did she do now?" Vincent's face darkened.
He never expected Cecilia to push him to the edge!
"She mocked my reopening discount plan in front of everyone. She even said Isadora had no business skills, which is why the sales department always struggled. She's always hinting to the employees that our family is useless, or Grandpa wouldn't have handed the company to Theodore..."
"What does Cecilia want?" Vincent roared.
"She's so arrogant now. The employees look at her with admiration," Juliana cried. "Dad, are we really going to let Cecilia walk all over us?"
"She doesn't have that kind of power!" Vincent fumed.
Despite his tough words, he had no idea how to change things.
"Dad, how can we teach Cecilia a lesson? It's one thing for her to target me, but I'm upset for you, Andrew, and the late Isadora. I used to blame Dominic for Isadora's death, but now I think Cecilia's the real culprit," Juliana continued. "If it weren't for Cecilia, Isadora wouldn't have provoked Dominic and been ridiculed into suicide."
"I won't let Cecilia get away with this!" Vincent said through gritted teeth.
"Dad, what should I do now?" Juliana asked, looking pitiful. "Cecilia wants me to come up with a reopening discount plan. She's clearly targeting me. Nothing I write will satisfy her," Juliana was at her wit's end.
"Let her nitpick," Vincent said bluntly.
"Dad?" Juliana was surprised.
"Make sure she's never satisfied," Vincent said. "The better you do, the more it helps her!"
"Okay," Juliana nodded quickly. "Dad, I know what to do now."
"Juliana," Vincent said earnestly, "bear with Cecilia for now. Don't worry, I won't let her be smug for long!"
"I'm not upset. I'm honored to help you."
"You're amazing," Vincent praised.
"Then I'll get back to work," Juliana said sweetly.
"Alright."
After hanging up, Juliana's smile vanished.
She had intentionally made Vincent let her do nothing.
First, Vincent was right. The better she did, the more it would benefit Cecilia. She couldn't help her enemy.
Second, she really wasn't good at this. When she got the task, she was completely lost. She had barely come up with something, but even she thought it was subpar. To avoid making Vincent think she was incompetent and unable to help in the future, she had set it up so Vincent would let her do poorly on this plan.
This way, she could easily muddle through.
As she mulled over her thoughts, someone knocked on her door.
Juliana turned and saw Cecilia, genuinely startled.
Feeling like a thief caught in the act, she panicked.
Cecilia acted like she didn't notice.
"I just came to remind you that we're in the same department. If I don't do well, neither will you. Think about that," Cecilia said calmly.
Juliana knew exactly what Cecilia meant.
If the sales department's performance didn't improve, as the head of marketing, she'd face the same consequences as Cecilia.
Cecilia really thought of everything.
Juliana even felt that Cecilia had already guessed her current thoughts, which was why she came to remind her.
"By the way," Cecilia said as she turned to leave, "Andrew isn't in our department. Think about who your father would choose between you and him."
"What are you trying to say?" Juliana couldn't help but ask.
"You're smart; you'll figure it out," Cecilia said with a slight smile. "I won't disturb your work anymore. I expect a perfect reopening marketing plan by 9 AM tomorrow."
With that, Cecilia left.
Juliana watched her go.
She had to admit, Cecilia's words hit home.
She didn't need to think hard to know that Vincent would definitely choose Andrew over her.
Juliana's eyes narrowed.
She had worked hard to get this far.
She couldn't give up now!
Cecilia returned to her office.
She had gone to see Juliana on purpose.
She had thought it through.
Driving Juliana away wouldn't be easy.
Embarrassing her wouldn't have much effect either.
Juliana had faced plenty of such situations growing up and was still doing fine.
The best way to deal with Vincent's family was to sow discord.
Once they were internally conflicted, it was only half the battle to actually bring them down.
Cecilia refocused on her work.
She had just opened her computer when the phone rang.
She glanced at the caller ID and answered slowly, "Alaric, what's up?"
"I'm leaving Serenovia City today," Alaric cut to the chase.
"Where are you going?" Cecilia asked.
"Are you concerned about me?" Alaric teased.
"No," Cecilia replied coldly.
Alaric didn't say anything more.
Cecilia thought, 'Is this his way of keeping me in the dark about his whereabouts?'
Alaric could be infuriatingly cunning at times.
"If you miss me, you can call. I don't turn off my phone, 24/7."
"I won't."
"I'll miss you, so you can't turn off your phone or put it on silent," Alaric said. "I need to be able to reach you anytime."
Cecilia thought, 'Could Alaric be any more domineering?'
"I'm boarding the plane now," Alaric said, implying he was about to hang up.
"So, you're going after Rebecca, aren't you?" Cecilia finally said just before the call ended.
