Chapter 723 Chaotic Situation (28) Meeting

Alaric and Dashiell buried Francis.

They sat on the ground, silently staring at the mound of earth that formed the grave.

All was silent.

The entire island was so quiet that it seemed devoid of any sound.

Until Alaric's phone rang.

The sudden ringtone seemed to startle the birds.

Birds flew away from the bushes in fright.

At that moment, Alaric seemed to come out of his own world.

He looked down, picked up his phone, and saw the name "Cassius" flashing on the screen.

He answered, his voice hoarse, "Cassius."

"I've taken Cecilia to the hospital," Cassius said bluntly. "When are you coming back?"

In fact, Cassius was urging him to leave.

Cassius was afraid he would be consumed by the pain of losing Francis, unable to extricate himself.

Alaric's throat moved slightly.

He glanced at Francis's grave again and said softly, "Soon."

"You should come back soon. Cecilia's condition isn't good. Due to severe bleeding and the impact of the explosion, it's very likely the baby won't survive," Cassius had to inform Alaric of Cecilia's condition.

On one hand, Cecilia's condition was indeed very bad.

On the other hand, he wanted to divert Alaric's attention.

He knew too well the bond between Alaric and Francis.

For a long time, Francis had been the biggest motivation in Alaric's life.

Now that Francis was dead, how much of a blow would Alaric's life suffer!

Cassius couldn't even imagine.

"Okay," Alaric responded.

"Alaric, Cecilia has endured a lot. She really needs someone by her side right now," Cassius said heavily.

This wasn't Cassius considering Alaric's position.

He genuinely believed Cecilia needed Alaric.

"Okay," Alaric responded again.

Cassius hung up the phone.

He turned to look at Cecilia lying on the hospital bed, watching her pale and weak appearance.

Cecilia had many injuries, but the doctor said there was no immediate danger to her life. However, if she insisted on keeping the baby, both she and the baby could die.

Cassius didn't know how to persuade Cecilia.

He felt that only Alaric could make such a choice.

He put down his phone and sat by the bed. "Alaric should be here soon."

Cecilia, with her eyes closed, opened them and looked at Cassius when she heard his words.

"Francis is dead. Alaric is very sad, so give him some time."

"I'm not blaming him for anything," Cecilia said directly.

She could understand Alaric's pain of losing a loved one.

She could also understand why Alaric didn't come to see her after what happened to Francis.

She thought if she were in the same situation, if Theodore and Genevieve were in trouble, she might not be able to care about others either.

What she was upset about now was the baby inside her.

At that time on the island, she had resigned herself to death, and so had the baby inside her.

But now she was alive.

She survived, and she hoped the baby inside her could survive with her.

The doctor had just tried to persuade her, saying that in her current state, forcing to keep the baby would be dangerous.

She couldn't give up her baby because of that risk.

"Do you want to eat something?" Cassius felt that at this moment, he really couldn't say anything.

Persuading Cecilia to be magnanimous felt hypocritical.

Not persuading her felt unfair to Alaric.

So he simply said nothing.

Cecilia shook her head.

"Then get some sleep. The doctor said that whether you want to recover your own body or keep the baby, your health is the most important. Get some rest," Cassius said. "I'll stay by your side, and there won't be any more danger. I'll call you when Alaric arrives."

Cecilia nodded.

She was actually very grateful to Cassius.

Not just Cassius, but Dashiell, Augustus, and Francis too.

The people closest to Alaric were all very good to her.

So what right did she have to blame Alaric?

Blame him for being late?

Blame him for not protecting her?

He had done his best to protect her.

Some things were just beyond his control.

Cecilia closed her eyes and tried to fall asleep.

Alaric and Dashiell eventually left the island.

The villa, destroyed beyond recognition, and the grave in the corner were left there, lonely and desolate.

Hugo came to pick them up.

He had waited for them for a long time.

He just kept waiting, without urging.

Until he saw them arrive.

"Mr. Whitaker," Hugo said respectfully.

Alaric nodded slightly. Despite his grief, he had already masked all his emotions. If Dashiell hadn't seen it with his own eyes, he would have doubted that Alaric had ever been sad.

In a voice devoid of any emotional fluctuation, he asked, "What's the status of the remaining Hotchner family forces?"

"They've all been defeated or surrendered."

"And the Monroe family forces?"

"Still being suppressed," Hugo replied honestly.

"Tomas is still resisting?" Alaric asked.

"That cunning Tomas still has an army. The Monroe family is still being protected, but they're no longer a threat. Most of the Yakurosean Empire's power is now in our hands."

Alaric nodded slightly.

He had his own plans in mind but didn't voice them.

He boarded the ship with Dashiell and ordered, "Have someone check Dashiell's injuries."

"Yes."

The ship's medic immediately came forward and began examining Dashiell's body.

Only when Dashiell's blood-soaked clothes were removed did they realize how severe his injuries were.

Dashiell endured the pain, his face pale to the extreme.

The medic said, "I recommend taking him directly to the hospital. The resources on the ship are limited, and there's a high risk of infection."

Alaric nodded.

At that moment, Cecilia's image flashed in his mind.

Alaric's heart suddenly ached.

His throat moved up and down, and he chose to remain silent.

The ship reached the shore.

A car took Alaric and Dashiell to the hospital.

Once Dashiell collapsed, he couldn't get up again.

He was carried the entire way, unable to move.

The car stopped at the hospital entrance.

Dashiell was taken directly to the emergency room by medical staff.

Alaric went to Cecilia's ward.

He stood outside the ward, not pushing the door open.

For a moment, he didn't know how to face Cecilia.

How to face the fact that he had caused her so much harm.

He tried to push the door several times but stopped each time.

Until the door was suddenly opened from the inside.

Cassius saw Alaric and was visibly stunned.

The next second, he said excitedly and anxiously, "Cecilia is bleeding again!"
