Chapter 652 Seraphina and Cassius Compete in Drinking

Alaric and Cecilia strolled into the living room, hand in hand, trailing behind Seraphina.

The moment Seraphina stepped into the living room, she started griping.

The house was just way too decorated for her taste.

Even though she was complaining, it was weirdly not annoying to anyone.

She kept chatting all the way to the backyard, where the lights were even more eye-catching at night.

Seraphina had just reached the dining table when she suddenly stopped in her tracks. She hadn't expected to see Cassius there, and even more surprising was Dashiell's presence.

She thought if Cecilia had turned her down, she must've turned everyone down.

She figured Cecilia and Alaric were having some alone time.

She never saw this coming.

Seraphina turned to Cecilia, her glare sharp enough to cut through the tension in the room.

So Cassius could come, and Dashiell could show up. But what about Seraphina? Was she still Cecilia's best friend or not?

Seraphina felt totally abandoned and hurt by Cecilia!

Cecilia, catching Seraphina's gaze, struggled to explain.

She pretended not to notice Seraphina's look, trying to keep things smooth. "Sit."

Seraphina didn't sit; she was fuming.

She snapped, "Cecilia, are we not best friends anymore?"

"We are best friends," Cecilia quickly assured her.

"If we're best friends, why can they sit here, but I get turned away?" Seraphina was really upset.

Cecilia was about to explain.

Cassius cut in, "You still don't know why you were turned away?"

Seraphina glared at Cassius.

"Didn't you see? Dashiell is here," Cassius said, clearly trying to stir the pot.

Dashiell, who had been lounging on the dining table, sat up. He glanced at Cassius, pursed his lips, but stayed silent.

"If he's here, does that mean I can't come?" Seraphina's anger flared even more.

Cassius asked, "Don't you have any self-awareness?"

Seraphina shot back, "Why should I? It's just a breakup..."

"It's a divorce," Cassius corrected.

Seraphina gritted her teeth and corrected herself, "It's just a divorce. Do we have to hate each other?"

Cassius replied, "Yeah, for you, it's just a divorce. For Dashiell..."

"Enough," Dashiell cut in, stopping Cassius. "No need to say more. The relationship between Seraphina and me isn't as strained as you think."

Seraphina looked at Dashiell, knowing he was trying to help her out.

But his overly cold tone stung a bit.

She bit her lip and stayed quiet.

Cecilia stepped in to lighten the mood. "Sit down. No one is here to drink with Cassius. You're just in time."

Cassius said, "Who said anything about wanting her to drink with me..."

"Are you afraid you can't beat me?" Seraphina wasn't one to hold grudges.

Sometimes she was even pretty generous.

So she didn't stay mad for long.

When Cassius heard Seraphina say that, he couldn't stay calm. "Afraid of you? Seriously, Seraphina, when have you ever outdrunk me?"

"This time!" Seraphina declared as she sat down across from Cassius. "This time, I'm going to outdrink you!"

"Ridiculous!" Cassius picked up a glass and said, "Let's see who's really better!"

He handed Seraphina a glass, and they started drinking.

The tense situation from just moments ago instantly shifted to a more chill vibe! Cecilia glanced at Seraphina and Cassius, unable to help but laugh. "Anyone who didn't know better would really think they were long-lost siblings."Alaric nodded in agreement.

"Cassius is a different breed compared to you and Dashiell," Cecilia remarked, unable to hold back her observation.

She thought Cassius should be more mature.

Alaric replied, "Cassius is all show. But when it comes to real problems, he can handle them."

Cecilia thought about it and agreed.

Whenever she faced problems, she would turn to Cassius for help. And she had to admit, he had never let her down. Truly, you can't judge a book by its cover.

Even though Cassius and Seraphina both had restless personalities, their abilities were worlds apart.

Cecilia sighed softly.

She found herself wondering when Seraphina would finally grow up.

At the dining table, the lively banter and loud drinking of Cassius and Seraphina took center stage. For a brief moment, it felt like their show. The others seemed unfazed, letting them drink and make a racket.

As it got late, Alaric guided Cecilia back to their room, leaving Dashiell, Cassius, and Seraphina behind without a second thought.

Dashiell watched them leave, looking a bit helpless.

Cassius and Seraphina were still drinking, and Dashiell sat beside them, feeling a bit awkward.

Dashiell checked the time; it was getting late.

Since Alaric and Cecilia had left, he figured he should go too.

Just as he stood up, Cassius grabbed him and asked, "Where are you going?"

Seraphina glanced at Dashiell briefly, then quickly looked away, deliberately avoiding him.

"I'm going home," Dashiell said calmly.

"You won't wait for me?" Cassius looked incredulous, his face showing disbelief at the idea of being left behind.

Dashiell explained, "Aren't you having a good time drinking?"

"No matter how well I'm holding my drink, you have to stick with me. Otherwise, how will we know who comes out on top between me and Seraphina?" Cassius said, sounding righteous.

Dashiell was speechless.

"You can't leave!" Cassius stubbornly demanded.

Dashiell had grown up being bullied by Cassius.

Being younger, and since Cassius didn't dare challenge Alaric, Dashiell became the target of Cassius's frustrations.

Dashiell didn't leave.

He sat beside them, watching Cassius and Seraphina drink.

He felt that if this continued, someone might die before the night ended.

Thinking of this, Dashiell couldn't stand it anymore. He grabbed the glasses from Cassius and Seraphina. "Enough, stop drinking."

Cassius said, "No way, Seraphina isn't drunk yet."

"I won't get drunk!" Seraphina stood up, looking proud.

Cassius was unfazed. "Let me show you what a real drinker looks like!"

Cassius grabbed the glass from Dashiell's hand and downed it.

Seraphina wasn't to be outdone and reached for the glass in Dashiell's hand.

Just as she touched it, Dashiell took it away.

"Dashiell!" Seraphina was angry.

Dashiell said coldly, "Time to go home."

Seraphina exclaimed, "I haven't settled the score with Cassius. I'm not leaving!"

"Enough," Dashiell said sternly.

"Not enough! Why do you get to say it's enough? What do you think our relationship is?" Seraphina hiccuped, her gaze at Dashiell was actually a bit blurry.

But when it came to demeanor, Seraphina wouldn't back down! "We have no relationship," Dashiell said bluntly, his tone emotionless, tinged only with a hint of anger at Seraphina's attitude—definitely no lingering feelings. He looked cold and added, "I'll call Sebastian to pick you up."
