Chapter 488 Emily's Acting
Cecilia moseyed downstairs.
Since Alaric had to hit up the State Office in the morning too, they both got up to grab some breakfast.
The moment they stepped into the hall, they were floored.
The floor was a mess of shattered plates and broken glass, and Emily was bawling. "I'm sorry, George, I didn't mean to. I just wanted to help, but I ended up causing trouble."
George looked kinda helpless, but he definitely couldn't tick off Emily.
Seeing George cleaning up, Emily quickly squatted down to help.
"Ms. Whitaker, don't touch it," George called out.
Emily suddenly let out a scream.
Yep, a shard had cut her hand.
Blood started dripping from her finger.
Cecilia watched, feeling a bit speechless.
Emily was a walking disaster.
She walked over and said to Emily, "Emily, come here, let me check out your hand."
Emily, with teary eyes, followed Cecilia, muttering, "It's my fault. I can't do anything right."
Cecilia didn't respond.
"I saw that George was alone, so I wanted to help him out. I didn't mean to cause so much trouble and make you all worry about me," she said, starting to cry again.
She didn't forget to pout at Alaric. "I'm sorry, Alaric."
Alaric glanced at Emily but didn't say a word.
He just headed straight to the dining table.
Emily felt a bit frustrated.
No matter what she did now, Alaric seemed to ignore her.
Emily suddenly screamed to get Alaric's attention.
Cecilia said, "I haven't even touched you yet!"
Her voice was loud enough for everyone in the hall to hear.
Emily looked a bit embarrassed.
Cecilia indeed hadn't touched her yet.
Even George, who was cleaning, couldn't help but chuckle.
After spending a day together, George had also realized how troublesome Emily was.
Emily happened to see George's mocking smile at that moment, and her face turned livid with anger.
"Emily, do you know what Alaric told me last night?" Cecilia began applying iodine to her wound.
Emily frowned, clearly in pain now.
But when she heard Cecilia's words, she forgot to cry out in pain.
Cecilia knew this would distract her.
To prevent Emily from causing more trouble, she said slowly, "Alaric said he's only tolerating you because of the Whitaker family."
"You're lying! Alaric has always been kind to me since we were kids." Emily couldn't suppress her anger.
Alaric had indeed been very good to her when they were young.
She didn't know when he started to become so distant.
"So, Emily, you're smart enough to know what I'm saying," Cecilia said.
"I don't know."
"Alaric's saying that if you keep pushing him, he won't hesitate to show you his cold, ruthless side, Whitaker family or not," Cecilia said firmly.
"You!"
"Alright." Cecilia smiled.
Her smile was bright.
She then said, "Be careful not to get it wet."
Then she packed up the first aid kit and left.
Emily looked at her bandaged finger, feeling a surge of anger that she couldn't vent.
Cecilia had deliberately distracted her; Emily had originally wanted Alaric to help bandage her!
The more she thought about it, the angrier she got.
Emily felt like she was now being controlled by Cecilia!
After breakfast, Cecilia and Alaric bounced out together.
She dropped Alaric off at the State Office first, then headed over to the Lockhart Group.
As soon as she rolled into the office, Rose was hot on her heels, ready to give a work update.
Cecilia cut to the chase, "How's the debt collection from the Kingsley Group going?"
"Not great. Penelope, the head honcho over there, is dodging our lawyers like the plague. They couldn't get a hold of her all day yesterday," Rose replied.
"Alright, tell the lawyers to file a lawsuit," Cecilia ordered.
Rose nodded.
"Anything else on the agenda today?" Cecilia asked.
"Nope. Just a company meeting this afternoon that you need to be at."
"Cool. Don't pile on too much work today," Cecilia said. "Anything else can wait till Monday."
"Got it," Rose said respectfully. "I understand. Mr. Whitaker's back, and you wanna spend more time with him."
Cecilia shot Rose a look, and she zipped it and left.
Right after Rose bailed, Cecilia's phone buzzed. Seeing Bill's name pop up, she had a pretty good idea what it was about.
Dominic wasn't a total idiot.
He knew how to cut his losses.
She picked up, "Mr. Tackett."
"Ms. Lockhart, our project's been dragging on forever. What's the status on your end?" a concerned voice asked.
"Mr. Tackett, just lay it out," Cecilia said straight up.
Bill hesitated for a sec, then finally said, "I'll be blunt. I know the Kingsley Group's been giving the Lockhart Group, especially you, a hard time. I don't wanna play middleman, but this project's urgent. If we keep stalling, we'll miss the boat, and all our hard work will go down the drain. For my sake, could you and Dominic have a proper chat? He said he'd transfer the e-commerce platform to you, and this time he's serious."
She chuckled, "Alright, since you're asking, I'll do it. I'll hit up Dominic right away and get back to you once it's sorted."
"Thanks. If you need anything, Ms. Lockhart, just holler," Bill said.
"Mr. Tackett, you're too kind. This is between Dominic and me, and I'm sorry it's dragged you in. Even if you hadn't called, I would've reached out to Dominic. I won't let our personal issues mess with your interests."
"That's a relief," Bill said with a sigh. "I'll wait for your good news then."
"Alright." After hanging up, Cecilia sneered.
In the end, she decided to take a step back for the sake of business.
Reputation was everything in this game.
If she let Bill take a hit after he helped her, people would say the Lockhart Group was ungrateful.
Plus, in the business world, having one more friend was always a hundred times better than having one more enemy!
She picked up the phone, saying, "Rose, tell the Kingsley Group to get their butts over to the Lockhart Group within half an hour to discuss the e-commerce platform project. No extensions!"
