Chapter 466 The Game (11) Threatening Sebastian
After Dashiell hung up, he just sat there in his office, staring into space.
Cecilia's words were still ringing in his ears.
If he let Sebastian go, it'd be a win for him and Seraphina.
If he didn't, things would get real ugly between Sebastian and the Everhart Family.
But he had no clue which side Seraphina would pick.
He grabbed a cigarette and got up from his chair.
No more cane for him.
His left leg could kinda hold him up now, though he still had a bit of a limp.
Standing by the big window, Dashiell smoked, looking kinda lost.
In the end, he decided to let it go.
He'd made up his mind ages ago, so no regrets.
He'd tried to win Seraphina back, but nothing changed, so why bother?
He stubbed out the cigarette, picked up the phone, and dialed, "Sebastian."
"Dashiell?" Seraphina's voice came through.
Dashiell pressed his lips together, "I need to talk to Sebastian."
"He's cooking right now. What's up?" Seraphina sounded confused.
"Work stuff," Dashiell replied.
"It's Saturday," Seraphina said, clearly annoyed.
"Then I'll talk to him on Monday," Dashiell said, ice-cold.
Just as he was about to hang up, Seraphina stopped him, "Wait. I'll get Sebastian."
She didn't want him to miss something important.
"Thanks." Dashiell was polite, but distant.
Seraphina felt a bit stifled but didn't show it. She handed the phone to Sebastian, "Sebastian, it's for you."
"Who is it?" Sebastian asked.
"Dashiell."
Sebastian's brow furrowed.
"He said it's about work."
"Keep an eye on the meat for me. Don't get burned," Sebastian said gently, taking the phone.
"Okay."
After listening to their sweet talk for a bit, Dashiell finally heard Sebastian's cold voice, "What's up?"
"Got a minute? Need to talk," Dashiell's tone was lukewarm.
"You know I'm at Seraphina's, so no," Sebastian said bluntly.
"I can wait till you're done," Dashiell didn't push.
"What's it about?" Sebastian asked.
"Work stuff," Dashiell said. "Hard to explain over the phone. Better in person."
"Is it urgent?" Sebastian asked.
"Yeah," Dashiell nodded.
"I'll come by after lunch," Sebastian said.
"2 PM then."
"Okay."
Sebastian hung up.
He walked back to the kitchen, "Dashiell wants me at his office at 2 PM. Says it's work."
"He's doing it on purpose! Making you go in on a weekend, what a jerk," Seraphina was upset.
"Maybe it's important," Sebastian said.
"I think he's just messing with you," Seraphina said firmly.
Sebastian didn't say anything.
He seemed to be taking it all in stride.
His goal was to make Seraphina lose all respect for Dashiell.
"Don't be mad, he's the boss. We still have tomorrow. Let's go for a walk in the outskirts," Sebastian comforted.
"Deal." Seraphina brightened up immediately.
"Okay."
So, they cooked and had lunch together.
Compared to Dashiell's cold vibe, their life was all cozy and warm.
Dashiell sat in his office, staring at his ringing phone, and answered, "Mom."
"Are you eating well?" Magnolia asked straight up.
"Yeah," Dashiell replied, eyeing the takeout in front of him.
"Really?" Magnolia sounded skeptical. "Are you eating takeout right now?"
"Yeah." Dashiell didn't bother lying.
"I told you to lay off the takeout. It's bad for your stomach." Magnolia was annoyed. "You and Alaric both have weak stomachs. I've told you a million times to take care of it. I'll have Lucy come back to cook for you and bring meals every day."
"No need."
"Don't test me. I'll have Lucy move in with you right away," Magnolia said, ice-cold.
"Mom, Lucy's still young. If she moves in with me, it'll ruin her reputation. How will she date and get married?" Dashiell suggested, "How about this, let Lucy deliver meals daily without moving in."
"That works," Magnolia agreed quickly. "Just take care of yourself. I don't want you wrecking yourself over Seraphina."
"I won't," Dashiell said.
"Fine."
"Mom, Atticus asked about you a few days ago." Dashiell switched topics.
Magnolia replied indifferently, "He reached out. I don't want to deal with him right now, so stay out of it."
"Atticus is actually good to you," Dashiell tried to persuade her.
Magnolia seemed genuinely uninterested, "I have stuff to do, talk later."
"Okay." Dashiell put down the phone, looking at the bland food in front of him.
In the end, he didn't take another bite.
At 2 PM, there was a knock on the door.
"Come in," Dashiell said coldly.
Sebastian pushed the door open.
Dashiell watched as Sebastian closed the door and walked in.
Sebastian's face was cold, and his tone wasn't any better. "What do you need?"
Dashiell glanced at him, "It's about the Kingsley Group's new billion-dollar loan."
Even though he tried to hide it, there was a flicker of panic in Sebastian's eyes.
"What's there to talk about? It's all done by the book," Sebastian said impatiently.
Dashiell didn't argue and pulled out a copy of the loan document.
Sebastian frowned.
He had specifically told the archives room that no one could copy this document, not even Atticus, without informing him.
How did Dashiell get this document?
He stayed calm, but his mind was racing.
Dashiell hadn't gotten it directly from the archives.
All archived documents needed electronic approval, and the electronic archives were super confidential. Only one person in the company had access. To get a document, it needed either the whole board's approval or a legal mandate, making it a pain. Sebastian never thought Dashiell had gotten the copy electronically.
Of course, Dashiell hadn't followed the proper procedures. He'd hacked into the internal network and swiped it.
No need to explain this to Sebastian. Holding the two property deeds, he said coldly, "They're fake."
