Chapter 621 Sebastian Seeks Sympathy

Seraphina stormed out, her anger boiling over. Every time she ran into Dashiell, it left her feeling frustrated, and if she ever had any improper thoughts about him again, she'd rather die.

She climbed into her car and drove home, seething with unexpressed irritation.

She genuinely feared that one day, Dashiell might piss her off so much that it would literally kill her.

She couldn't quite understand it, but every time Dashiell got under her skin, it reached an unbearable level. She felt an overwhelming urge to scream.

Just then, her phone rang.

Seraphina glanced at the caller ID and forced herself to calm down. She answered, "Sebastian."

"Are you home?" Sebastian asked.

"On my way back," Seraphina replied. "Have you finished dinner?"

"Yeah, I have," Sebastian said.

"Okay," Seraphina responded.

Suddenly, it seemed like there was nothing left to say between them.

They held their phones, feeling somewhat awkward.

Then Sebastian said, "Seraphina, I'm drunk."

Seraphina was taken aback.

She looked at the night outside the window, feeling a bit lost.

Sebastian was drunk. Should she take the initiative to send him home?

But she couldn't bring herself to say it.

"I drank a lot with clients today, trying my best to help Everhart Bank through its current crisis," Sebastian said, seemingly unaware of Seraphina's emotional turmoil. "I really want to do more for Everhart Bank."

Seraphina understood what Sebastian meant by now.

He was complaining.

Recently, Atticus had been focusing solely on Dashiell. Before Dashiell joined the company, that attention was only on Sebastian.

Seraphina comforted Sebastian, "Sebastian, don't overthink it. I believe my dad is just using Dashiell to get Magnolia back, which is why he seems to be favoring Dashiell. You have the ability, and my dad won't treat you unfairly. Don't worry."

Suddenly, Sebastian laughed, a self-deprecating laugh.

Seraphina felt a bit uncomfortable hearing it.

"Since I graduated from college, I've been working at Everhart Bank, doing my best in everything. If I really lack the ability and Dashiell can replace me, I'll accept it. But if it's because of personal reasons, I really feel it's unfair to myself," Sebastian said, feeling a bit distressed. "This has probably been the most disappointing time of my life, both in terms of my career and my personal life. I'm really disheartened."

Seraphina called out, "Sebastian..."

"I'm sorry, Seraphina," Sebastian suddenly apologized.

It was unclear if he was really drunk.

He seemed a bit incoherent.

He continued, "I didn't mean to make things difficult for you or force you to do anything. I just felt a bit down and wanted to talk to you. I'm really sorry for bothering you. Don't feel burdened; I was just talking. It's late, you should get some rest. Goodnight..."

Before Seraphina could respond, Sebastian had already hung up, leaving her with words left unspoken.

After hanging up, his expression changed noticeably.

His behavior tonight was intentional. Sebastian wanted to make Seraphina feel guilty, so he made her go to Atticus and get him into the special task force. Now, Sebastian had no idea what Dashiell was doing, which made him quite worried. After all, he had leaked a ton of info from Everhart Bank to Unity World Bank. He suggested all sorts of strategies to snatch cooperative enterprises. But now, he had no clue what Dashiell was up to, which made him feel pretty helpless.

He had to get Unity World Bank to help him get Dashiell out of Everhart Bank!

Meanwhile, Seraphina was deep in thought.

She really felt like she owed Sebastian a lot.

The more she thought about it, the more she felt this way.

Without much thought, she called Atticus, "Dad."

"It's so late; what's up?" Atticus's voice was a bit groggy, clearly he had been sleeping.

Seraphina's mood was obviously not good. "Dashiell is working so hard for you at Everhart Bank, and you're already asleep! I thought you should at least care more about Everhart Bank's affairs. How can you sleep so soundly!"

"Are you crazy?" Atticus was a bit speechless.

Seraphina's temper hadn't changed over the years.

Seraphina retorted, "Yes, I'm crazy. Just thinking about everyone working hard for you while you take it for granted makes me mad."

"I pay their salaries," Atticus shot back, his mood growing sour after Seraphina's scolding.

Seraphina exclaimed, "Do you think that little salary is enough to make people work diligently for you?"

"That's because Dashiell is responsible. He does his job well. What's wrong? Are you starting to feel sorry for Dashiell and want to stand up for him?" Atticus's mood seemed to improve a bit at this thought.

"Don't overthink it. I just despise you!" Seraphina said bluntly.

Atticus's expression clouded over. "Why are you calling me at this hour?"

Hearing this, Seraphina seemed to remember that she called Atticus to talk about Sebastian, but somehow the conversation shifted to Dashiell.

Dashiell had really been haunting her lately.

She then took a deep breath and said, "I want Sebastian to join Dashiell's special task force."

"What are you up to now!" Atticus was speechless.

Just a moment ago, Seraphina was all about Dashiell, and now she was talking about Sebastian.

Seraphina responded, "Sebastian's contributions to the company are clear to everyone. Now that you have Dashiell, you're intentionally sidelining Sebastian. How do you think that makes him feel? And what about the rest of the employees? Can't you be a little more fair?"

"Who are you standing up for?" Atticus was confused by Seraphina.

"You need to find a way to get Sebastian into the special task force," Seraphina said, unwilling to debate, her tone resolute.

Atticus said, "You think just because you say he should join, he actually will? I promised the senior executives that the special task force would be led by Dashiell. If I go back on that now, what will Dashiell think? That I'm betraying my word! If you genuinely want Sebastian in the task force, you need to speak to Dashiell. As the project leader, he holds the final decision. It wouldn't be right for me to use my authority to pressure him. In the workplace, overstepping boundaries is the biggest taboo—not just for subordinates, but for superiors as well!"

At this, Seraphina bit her lip.

She might not have understood Atticus's words before, simply thinking that as the chairman of Everhart Bank, everything should be up to him. But after working for so long, she realized the workplace wasn't as simple as she thought. Just like ancient emperors, they couldn't do whatever they wanted; they had to seek the approval of their officials!
