Chapter 689 Gideon's Insidiousness
Alaric left the Monroe Mansion.
Juniper's birthday party lasted until 10 PM.
And he had spent almost the entire day with Juniper.
A lot of news must have spread by now.
He sat in the car, heading home.
The night in Astralton City was still lit up with neon lights.
Alaric watched the myriad of lights in silence.
The driver parked the car in the neighborhood, but Alaric made no move, and the driver didn't dare to speak, only waiting quietly for his orders.
He didn't know how much time had passed.
He heard Alaric's deep voice say, "Go to The Hotchner Mansion."
This driver was not just a simple driver; he was also involved in the business of the Royal Family of Whitaker. At that moment, he couldn't help but remind, "Mr. Whitaker, it might not be appropriate to go to The Hotchner Mansion at this time..."
"I know," Alaric interrupted him, but his attitude was firm.
The driver didn't dare to disobey and had to restart the car and head to the Hotchner Mansion.
The car stopped at the entrance of The Hotchner Mansion.
Without Gideon's permission, they naturally couldn't go in.
"Should I get out and negotiate?" the driver asked.
"No need." The driver was surprised.
"Just stop here for a while," Alaric said indifferently.
"Yes." The car just stayed parked at the entrance of The Hotchner Mansion.
At the entrance of The Hotchner Mansion.
An iron gate separated him from Cecilia.
He didn't know what kind of mood Cecilia would be in when she saw the news of him spending the day with Juniper.
He didn't even dare to break in and tell her that everything was fake.
He also didn't have the courage to break in and take Cecilia away, regardless of everything.
He had just placed her in the most dangerous place.
Alaric clenched his fists.
Alaric was not as calm as he thought. Since sending Cecilia away, he had been suppressing himself to the point of breaking down.
He didn't know if there would be a day when he would really go to the extent of doing anything regardless of the consequences.
Whenever he had this thought, the image of Terrence and Maeve's tragic deaths, their bodies drifting in the sea, would appear in his mind.
Whenever he had this thought, he would think of Francis's lonely figure.
His eyes were bloodshot.
His erupting emotions forced him to control himself bit by bit.
He said, "Let's go back."
"Yes," the driver responded respectfully.
He didn't have much time to be sad or in pain.
He could only move forward; there was never a way back.
Inside The Hotchner Mansion.
Gideon watched Alaric's arrival, stay, and departure through the surveillance at the entrance.
He sneered.
Alaric's feelings for Cecilia were just like that?
Gideon almost thought that Alaric would impulsively break in. After all, with Alaric's intelligence, he should have guessed that Cecilia knew about him and Juniper.
But he still chose to remain silent.
Sure enough, no matter how deep the love, interests come first.
Cecilia was right not to rely on Alaric.
When it really came to making a choice, Cecilia would be abandoned by Alaric.
Gideon's eyes shifted.
Until now, he suddenly didn't want Cecilia to just die.
He felt it would be a pity if Cecilia died.
All these years, he really hadn't had any affection for any woman. What he said to Cecilia about Juniper was just to provoke her; he actually had no interest in Juniper. From a young age, he had received the greatest education on how to gain control of the Yakurosean Empire, leaving no time for love.
He even once thought that he could not experience love.
After all, no woman had ever attracted him, which was why Gideon was still single in his thirties.
The outside world said he was waiting for Juniper.
It was simply ridiculous.
However, now with Cecilia, of course, it wasn't love either. He hadn't reached the point of liking a pregnant woman; he just felt that it wouldn't affect him if Cecilia stayed alive, and she could even talk to him. It would be a pity if she died.
If Cecilia really could protect herself, why not keep her around!
Gideon picked up the phone and dialed a number, "Harry."
"You're calling me so late, what's up?" Harry Stewart's voice came through, somewhat surprised.
"Come to the Hotchner Mansion tomorrow. I want to show you a new antique I got."
"What antique?" Harry was clearly intrigued.
"You'll know when you get here."
"Creating suspense for me?" Harry was a bit annoyed.
"The best things naturally come with suspense."
"Alright. I'll come to The Hotchner Mansion tomorrow," Harry agreed readily.
"I'll be waiting for you."
"See you then."
"See you then."
He hung up the phone.
A wicked smile flashed in Gideon's eyes.
He wanted to see just how capable Cecilia was, to make him willingly let her live.
The next day.
Cecilia lived as usual.
No one knew how long she had been sleepless last night or what bad dreams she had.
All her emotions were hidden the moment Gideon arrived.
"Mr. Hotchner, you're early today," she said, noting he was earlier than usual.
Gideon glanced at Cecilia and said indifferently, "There will be guests at the house today."
Cecilia's heart fluttered with a bit of nervousness.
Whenever something different from usual happened, she would get nervous.
Gideon said, "What I told you yesterday, I don't plan to hide it from you today."
Cecilia frowned, pretending not to understand his meaning.
She was also hiding her emotions.
She didn't want Gideon to see through her thoughts.
"Not interested?" Gideon raised an eyebrow.
"No," Cecilia said coldly, "It's just that whether I'm interested or not, as long as it's something Mr. Hotchner decides, I have no choice, right?"
Gideon couldn't help but laugh.
Cecilia's words always seemed to satisfy him.
He said, "Cecilia, you really are smart."
"Mr. Hotchner, you're flattering me."
"I won't hide it anymore," Gideon said directly, "I have a friend coming today. I have my eye on one of his islands. Don't ask me too much; you just need to find a way to help me buy his island for no more than 20 million dollars. I promise, as long as I don't die, you won't die."
Cecilia's eyes flickered.
The information Gideon provided was clearly insufficient. She asked, "What's the island's market value?"
"At current market rates, at least 20 billion dollars."
Cecilia looked at Gideon in silence.
Gideon laughed at Cecilia's gaze. He said, "Without difficulty, how can you prove your worth?"
"Do you have any basic information about your friend?"
"Harry, 21 years old, his parents died in a plane crash, he inherited their estate, an invisible tycoon of the Yakurosean Empire, with personal assets exceeding the four major families of Serenovia City. The island is just one of his fixed assets, not important to him."
