Chapter 435 Cecilia Goes to Find Seraphina

"Nope," Rose snapped back.

She wasn't about that romance life.

If she had any free time, she'd rather be hustling.

"So, how come you know so much about relationships?" Cecilia asked, eyebrow raised.

"Just 'cause I haven't dated doesn't mean I haven't seen others do it," Rose shot back, all self-righteous.

Cecilia chuckled, just messing with her.

"Alright, go grab some grub at the cafeteria," she said.

"Sure thing," Rose nodded, ready to bounce.

"Hold up," Cecilia called out.

"Ms. Lockhart, anything else?" Rose asked.

"Take Augustus with you," Cecilia said.

Usually, Cecilia and Augustus would lunch together, but George's meal looked kinda skimpy for Augustus.

Not that the portion was tiny; Augustus just had a monster appetite.

"Got it," Rose nodded.

"Augustus, go with Rose for lunch," Cecilia told him.

"Yes, Mrs. Whitaker," Augustus nodded.

And off they went, side by side.

Cecilia watched them leave.

As she watched them walk away, she thought, if neither of them found someone soon, she might just play matchmaker.

The thought made her chuckle, because she figured they had zero chemistry.

Thinking about matchmaking, she quickly dialed Seraphina.

"Finally remembered me?" Seraphina sounded ticked.

"I've been swamped with work," Cecilia explained.

"Don't try to pull one over on me. Alaric's been back these past two days, right?" Seraphina rolled her eyes. "You just ditched me for him."

Cecilia bit her lip, not denying it. "Alaric's only here for two days, of course, I wanna spend time with him."

"Yeah, yeah, I know you love Alaric more," Seraphina said.

"Seraphina, are you that bored?" Cecilia was exasperated.

"Yep, you nailed it. I'm bored outta my mind. Been losing at games, almost wanna smash my phone," Seraphina grumbled.

"Are the game losses getting to you, or is it something else?" Cecilia asked.

"What are you getting at?" Seraphina didn't answer.

"I mean, you and Dashiell..." Cecilia pressed on.

"No!" Seraphina cut her off, not wanting to go there.

Thinking about Dashiell's cold shoulder that night, she wanted to rip him apart.

How could he treat her like that?

These past two days, she'd almost gone into hermit mode trying to figure it out.

"Let's grab dinner tonight and chat," Cecilia suggested.

"Nothing to talk about," Seraphina shot down.

"Seraphina..." Cecilia started to persuade her.

"But we can still have dinner. How about the Cozy Hearth?" Seraphina perked up.

"What are you thinking!" Cecilia was exasperated. "You're still recovering, so no eating out. I'll come over after work."

"Fine," Seraphina reluctantly agreed.

She really craved some spicy food.

Those so-called nutritious meals at home were driving her nuts.

"See you tonight," Cecilia said.

"Yeah, see you tonight." Seraphina nodded.

Cecilia hung up and then dug into the lunch George had whipped up.

She had to admit, George's cooking was way better than the cafeteria's.

Naturally, she ate more.

After eating, she packed up the insulated lunch box and set it aside.

Feeling stuffed and not ready for a nap, she grabbed her phone, stood up, and walked to the office's floor-to-ceiling window. She suddenly felt like calling Alaric.

When she dialed, Alaric picked up right away.

It was like he knew she was gonna call and was just waiting for it.

Cecilia felt a bit miffed.

If he was just sitting around waiting, why couldn't he call her first?

"Hey, sweetie," Alaric's voice came through, all smooth and magnetic, making her ears tingle.

Cecilia's heart did a little flip.

Every time he called her "sweetie," she could feel the love.

First, it was Ms. Lockhart, then Mrs. Whitaker, and now, Sweetie.

"Miss me?" Alaric asked when she didn't say anything.

"What if I do?" Cecilia replied, feeling a bit emotional since they were still apart.

"It'd make me really happy," Alaric said.

Cecilia stayed quiet.

Alaric always had a way of surprising her.

"I miss you too," Alaric said straight up. "Just three more months, I'll bust my butt to come back safe and sound."

"Think something might happen?" Cecilia suddenly got serious.

"Maybe." Alaric nodded.

"Then..." Cecilia started to worry.

"Don't sweat it, nothing's gonna happen to me," Alaric reassured her.

He'd deliberately made her nervous, and now he was playing the role of the comforting hero.

"I gotta report to City Hall here. Remember to miss me," Alaric sounded like he was in a rush.

"Okay." Cecilia wasn't the clingy type.

Even if she didn't want him to go, she wouldn't cling.

"Oh, and take care of yourself. Let me know if there's any good news," Alaric reminded.

By "good news," he meant pregnancy, of course.

Cecilia rolled her eyes.

"Go focus on your work," she said, then hung up.

After hanging up, she couldn't help but touch her belly.

It made her anxious.

Cecilia then headed to the carnival site at 2 PM.

Her assistant, Pierce, was in the car with her.

She didn't bring Rose this time since Rose had a ton to prep. She wanted to give her more time and not make her work overtime.

In the car, Cecilia broke the silence, "Getting used to things?"

Pierce quickly replied, "Yeah, I'm getting the hang of the Lockhart Group's operations. Should be ready to roll soon."

"How soon?" Cecilia asked.

Pierce thought for a moment, "Three days."

"In three days, I want a verbal report on your take on the Lockhart Group's current operations. No need for any fancy materials, just talk," Cecilia said.

"Got it," Pierce agreed right away.

Cecilia nodded and didn't say more.

She wasn't that familiar with Pierce yet.

She admired his talent, but whether he was a good fit for the Lockhart Group and could be trusted still needed time to see.

The carnival's opening ceremony dragged on for about three hours.

By the time it wrapped up, it was already the end of the workday.

Cecilia didn't want to work late today since she had plans with Seraphina.

She left the carnival site, letting Pierce and the other execs handle the rest.

Sitting in the car, Cecilia called Seraphina, letting her know she was on her way.

When she got to the Everhart Mansion, Seraphina was still snoozing.

She wondered if having such a flaky friend was just bad luck!

Seraphina groggily opened her eyes and said, "You're here. I just took a nap, how did I fall asleep?"

If it weren't for having something important to discuss, Cecilia really wouldn't want to deal with her.
