Chapter 417 A Wonderful Night Should Not Be Wasted
"Yo, Mr. Blackburn, don't make this harder than it needs to be. We gotta start shooting another TV series mid-year, and the supporting role is pretty sweet. I'll make sure you get it," the other guy kept trying to convince him.
Cassius cut to the chase, "Then tell your old man to pay back the money he borrowed from the Blackburn family by mid-year."
"Deal," the other guy agreed right away. "The female supporting role."
Cassius grinned.
"Her name's Lily. I'll have her hit you up," Cassius said.
"Alright, I'll sort it out," the other guy had no choice but to agree. "But Mr. Blackburn, can you give me a heads-up next time when you have a role in mind? Filming starts in a few days, and it's a pain to change the cast last minute."
Cassius didn't bother listening to his whining and hung up.
He picked up his phone to call Lily, only to realize he didn't have her number.
Luckily, after a bit, Lily sent him her home address.
He impatiently made the call. "Lily, get that abortion done tomorrow. I've got the role for you."
"Thanks, Mr. Blackburn," Lily said.
"Just don't screw me over!" Cassius snapped and hung up.
Lily was standing outside her apartment building at that moment.
She had sent her location to Cassius as soon as she got back.
She really thought this world was too harsh.
She had put in so much effort and prepared for so long, only to be replaced just like that.
Now, just because of a word from Cassius, the role was hers again.
She didn't even know what she had been holding on for all this time.
Lily walked into the elevator.
Inside the apartment, she heard Thea on the balcony, talking loudly on the phone, so Lily heard it as soon as she came back.
With a crying tone, Thea complained, "Didn't you promise to give me the role? How can you go back on your word!"
Thea continued, "Then what was the point of me sleeping with you before? How can you treat me like this? You promised me in bed, and now you just change your mind. How can you!"
"I don't care, I just want that role. I don't want any other role!" Thea shouted.
"If you treat me like this, believe it or not, I'll expose you to the media. How can you be so bad!"
The other side seemed to have lost patience and directly hung up the phone.
Seeing her call was hung up, Thea angrily threw her phone on the ground.
At that moment, she saw Lily had come back.
Seeing Lily looking at her, she shouted angrily, "Are you happy now? I didn't get the role in the end!"
Lily ignored her.
"Lily! Let's see how long you can keep up that nobility!" Thea said, breaking down.
Lily walked straight into her room.
In the entertainment industry, for one's own benefit, there were no friends.
Her role was snatched by her so-called friend.
Now, she used the same way to snatch it back.
It's an eye for an eye.
The Lockhart Group.
Cecilia stretched.
Accidentally, she worked until 8 PM again.
She dialed the intercom, saying, "Rose, come in for a moment."
"Yes." Rose pushed the door open and entered.
"Ms. Lockhart," Rose said respectfully.
"Here are the candidates for tomorrow's interviews. We kick off at 10 AM. Get to know them and be ready to join me in the interview room," Cecilia instructed.
"Got it," Rose replied.
"I'm heading out now. Don't stay too late," Cecilia reminded her.
"Okay," Rose nodded.
Cecilia grabbed her bag and called out to Augustus, "Let's roll."
Augustus followed her out.
They stepped into the elevator and made their way to the main entrance of the Lockhart Group.
Cecilia paused.
Something felt off tonight.
Since when were there colorful, heart-shaped lights outside the company?
And it wasn't even a holiday.
It all seemed a bit weird.
But she shrugged it off and left with Augustus.
"Mrs. Whitaker." A figure suddenly emerged from the shadows.
The sudden appearance almost made Cecilia jump out of her skin.
She looked at the man holding a massive bouquet of roses in front of the heart-shaped lights and saw Alaric grinning like a Cheshire cat.
It was bad enough he snuck back unnoticed, but to startle her like that? Seriously?
"Trying to give me a heart attack?" Cecilia snapped.
"Don't you miss me?" Alaric raised an eyebrow, still grinning.
Cecilia took a deep breath, "If you keep scaring me like this, you'll be visiting me in the afterlife!"
Alaric chuckled, his eyes twinkling with amusement.
"I thought I was giving you a surprise," he said, holding out the roses.
Cecilia looked at the bright red roses.
No woman would turn down flowers.
She took them from Alaric's hands and smiled, "I like them."
She didn't want to ruin his mood.
"As long as you like them," Alaric said, clearly pleased. He put his arm around her shoulder. "Had dinner yet?"
"Haven't you?" Cecilia asked.
"Have you?" Alaric shot back.
"I get dinner delivered from the company cafeteria at 6 PM every day," Cecilia said.
In the past, she always waited for Dominic to come home for dinner, which messed up her eating schedule and gave her a bad stomach over time.
In this life, Cecilia wasn't making the same mistake.
So she ate on time.
Alaric looked a bit miffed.
"I didn't know you were coming back. Couldn't you have given me a heads-up?" Cecilia complained.
"If I told you, it wouldn't be a surprise. Like when you came to Harborvale last time, I was thrilled," Alaric said.
Sometimes Cecilia thought Alaric was quite childish. "I'll join you for dinner. It's late, and I'm a bit hungry too."
"Alright then," Alaric agreed easily.
He didn't care if Cecilia was forcing herself.
He really knew how to give himself an out.
They hopped into Augustus's car and headed to a nearby upscale steakhouse.
"Alaric, slow down," Cecilia watched him eat like he hadn't seen food in days. "Eating too fast is bad for your stomach."
She even used a napkin to wipe his lips.
Wasn't he usually quite elegant?
Was he possessed tonight?
Alaric leaned close to her ear and whispered, "A beautiful night shouldn't be wasted."
Cecilia frowned.
"You'll understand soon," Alaric smiled mysteriously.
She seemed to get it.
Alaric said, "I only have two days off."
