Chapter 484 Bitch's Coming
"Alright, let's bounce. Time to clock out," Cecilia said, not wanting to dig any deeper.
Even if she did, Alaric wouldn't spill the beans.
She wasn't sure if she'd ever figure out who Alaric really was or what he was hiding.
Right now, she just wanted to keep things as they were.
As long as Alaric didn't off her and his actions didn't mess with her life, she could turn a blind eye to whatever he was up to.
She could put up with it all because of love.
They both got up from the couch.
Cecilia led the way.
Alaric reached out to grab her hand, but she subtly pulled it away.
Alaric pressed his lips together, a helpless smile playing on his face.
He trailed behind her.
Cecilia looked calm, but he could totally sense her unhappiness.
They hopped into Augustus's car.
"How's Juliana?" Cecilia asked.
"Nothing major, just a little bruise. She's got some meds, and the doc said she'll be good by tomorrow."
"Okay," Cecilia replied.
Augustus glanced at them through the rearview mirror.
Looked like they had a spat.
He had just taken Juliana to the hospital and skipped going to Cecilia's office to avoid butting in.
He couldn't wrap his head around how they could be fighting.
Augustus drove on, looking serious.
Anyway, he didn't get love stuff.
The car pulled up to the house quickly.
The whole ride, Cecilia and Alaric barely said a word.
It made Augustus so nervous he didn't even dare to breathe loudly.
Before, he used to cringe at how inseparable Cecilia and Alaric were, but now he kinda missed it. It was better than this cold war.
Alaric, ever the gentleman, would always open the car door for Cecilia,
This time, she opened it herself and got out.
Alaric followed her, and they walked into the villa together.
Augustus sat in the driver's seat, watching them.
He always felt that if Cecilia ever left Alaric, the guy wouldn't survive.
Augustus shook his head and drove off.
As soon as Cecilia walked into the hall, she saw Arabella sitting on the couch with Emily.
George was taking care of them. When he saw them come in, he quickly stepped forward. "Mr. Whitaker, Mrs. Whitaker, you're back together."
Alaric gave a slight nod.
He and Cecilia both looked at Arabella and Emily.
Cecilia genuinely liked Arabella, but Emily? Not so much. Cecilia walked over, trying to seem enthusiastic, and said, "Mom, why didn't you tell me you and Emily were coming over? I usually work late. If it weren't for Alaric, I wouldn't be back until after 9."
"No worries. We didn't have anything urgent, so we didn't call to rush you," Arabella said gently.
She had Cecilia sit next to her and then turned to Alaric, asking, "When did you get back? You didn't even tell me!"
Her tone was noticeably less pleasant.
It was a stark contrast to how she spoke to Cecilia.
Alaric plopped down on the couch, saying, "Just got back, picked up Cecilia from work. So, Mom, what's up with the sudden visit?"
He smoothly changed the subject.
Arabella, not one to nitpick, went along with it. "Your dad and I are heading out on an anniversary trip soon. I planned for Emily to stay home, but Grace's mom got sick, and Grace needs to go take care of her. Christopher's going with her, leaving just Jasper and Emily at home. You know how Jasper is with work, so I'm not comfy leaving Emily alone. Emily suggested she could crash here for a few days."
Cecilia listened quietly, sneaking a glance at Emily.
She wondered what kind of trouble Emily was stirring up this time.
"Great you're back! I was gonna ask Cecilia to watch Emily, but now you're here, you can do it, and I can finally relax," Arabella said, like it was no big deal.
Before Alaric could say anything, Emily quickly chimed in, "Sorry to trouble you."
She looked so fragile and sweet that anyone who said no would seem like a jerk.
Alaric turned to Cecilia.
Cecilia already had beef with Emily, and now she was being put on the spot!
It was clear that to avoid ticking off Arabella, she had to agree.
And Alaric didn't want to say no either, but he still wanted to make sure Cecilia was cool with it, so she couldn't blame him later.
Cecilia felt like she couldn't outsmart Alaric.
Feeling Arabella's eyes on her, Cecilia quickly smiled and said, "We're all family. If Emily wants to stay, she's welcome anytime. No need to be so formal."
"I'm glad you say so," Arabella said, smiling, clearly pleased with Cecilia. She added, "Your dad and I will be gone for about half a month. After we get back, we'll take Emily home. So, she'll be with you for about half a month. Sorry for the trouble."
"Mom, Emily's not a kid. It's no trouble at all. With her here, I'll have some company and won't feel so lonely. Alaric's heading to Harborvale for the next few days, and Emily can keep me company," Cecilia said, sounding happy but making her point clear.
Emily wasn't a kid; if she had any issues, they were her own problems.
Hearing Cecilia's words, Arabella smiled. "Cecilia's right. Emily's actually the same age as you, but I always treat her like a child. I've spoiled her too much."
Cecilia didn't say anything more, not wanting to make anyone uncomfortable. After all, Emily was still someone Arabella cared about. Saying too much would make Arabella uneasy.
So she just smiled and stayed quiet, silently agreeing with Arabella.
"I'll be staying for a week this time," Alaric said directly.
Cecilia turned to look at him.
She had always thought he came back just to prep for having a kid, so two days should've been enough.
Alaric continued, "Because I'll be officially transferred back in half a month, I need to come back early to hand over my work, which will take about a week."
