Chapter 164 Alaric's Gentleness
The Tower of Light project was moving along smoothly, just as Cecilia planned.
The buzz was spreading like wildfire across different platforms.
For a moment, it grabbed a lot of attention.
Rebecca saw the trending news and her expression changed.
She confronted Vincent, "Didn't I tell you to stop Cecilia's project? Now you've launched all these ad campaigns. Are you trying to drive me nuts?"
"Cecilia's not as simple as you think! Plus, Theodore's the chairman of the Lockhart Group. If Cecilia complains to him, who'd dare stop her?" Vincent deflected the blame, suggesting Cecilia had Theodore's backing.
Rebecca was furious but didn't doubt Vincent. She said coldly, "You need to control Cecilia. Her ads are making a splash. If I don't keep up, I'll look bad. If I do, I'll waste money. I don't want to lose too much on Cecilia; she's not worth it!"
"Relax, I won't make things hard for you," Vincent assured. "I just got some intel. Cecilia plans to get Wendy to endorse The Tower of Light."
"Wendy?" Rebecca frowned. "Isn't that a bit much?"
"I told you, Cecilia's reckless because she's Theodore's daughter. She dosen't care about the budget; she just wants results. So instead of confronting her, be strategic. If she gets Wendy, the top star, The Tower of Light will soar. But if you get Wendy first, think about whose business will shine!" Vincent suggested.
"You mean, I should sign Wendy before Cecilia does?" Rebecca asked.
"I can give you a heads-up. Cecilia will likely approach Wendy in the next day or two. If you secure the deal first, Cecilia won't stand a chance," Vincent said slyly.
Rebecca hesitated.
The Starlight Group was still deciding on the project. If they didn't proceed and she had already paid a huge endorsement fee, it would be a financial hit. But if she didn't sign Wendy, their business wouldn't outshine Cecilia's.
She had to best Cecilia in every way. She couldn't let Cecilia steal the spotlight.
"Think about it." Vincent sensed her hesitation and backed off.
Rebecca's eyes narrowed.
If it was about beating Cecilia, she was all in.
"I know what to do. Keep an eye on Cecilia for me," she said harshly.
"Don't worry," Vincent replied with a cold smile.
After hanging up, Rebecca dialed another number.
"Ms. Adams," the other side greeted respectfully.
"Find out if the Lockhart Group plans to work with Wendy."
"Yes."
"Let me know as soon as you hear anything."
"Yes."
Rebecca didn't fully trust Vincent. It wasn't that she thought he'd betray her and team up with Cecilia; she just feared Cecilia might pull a fast one.
Rebecca had been in the business world since she was young. She knew how sneaky people could be.
Cecilia didn't get home until almost 11 PM again.
Three straight days of overwork had left her exhausted.
Thinking about going home to deal with Alaric, Cecilia honestly felt like running away.
'Home?'
'Alaric's place, what kind of home was that?'
But she still went back.
George was waiting for her, which always made her feel warm inside.
After eating some tonic, Cecilia headed to her room.
She opened the door.
As expected, Alaric was lying on the bed, looking like he was waiting for her to serve him.
"Need to pee?" Cecilia asked bluntly.
She knew Alaric's habits too well.
"No," Alaric replied.
"Need a body wipe?" she continued.
"No," he said.
"Need a massage?" she asked.
"No," he replied.
"Need a scratch?" she asked.
"No," he said.
"Did you take your medicine today?" Cecilia frowned.
'What's up with Alaric today?'
"Yes," Alaric answered seriously.
The doctor had prescribed him daily anti-inflammatory meds after leaving the hospital.Cecilia scrutinized Alaric. "Just tell me, what do you want now?"
She didn't believe he could be so kind.
"I want you to take a shower," Alaric said directly.
"Alaric, a person should keep their word."
"What are you thinking?" Alaric was speechless.
'A man asks a woman to shower, what could she think?'
"I want you to sleep early," Alaric said, a bit annoyed. "You come back so late every night. Do you think I don't know how tired you are?"
"Why are you looking at me like that?" Alaric felt uneasy under Cecilia's gaze.
"I'm afraid there might be something wrong with you today," Cecilia replied.
"You want me to boss you around?" Alaric suddenly smirked. "Tell me, Cecilia, when did you start falling for me? Now that I'm not bossing you around, do you feel lost?"
"You're crazy," Cecilia snapped.
Alaric was still the same arrogant, sharp-tongued guy.
Cecilia turned and walked straight into the bathroom.
Alaric watched her go, a slight smile on his lips.
He turned back to his phone and saw a message from Cassius: [It's confirmed, Rebecca is targeting Cecilia.]
Alaric read it but didn't reply.
Cassius sent another one: [Whose side are you on?]
The chat was in a group.
There were only three people in the group: Alaric, Cassius, and Dashiell.
Dashiell replied: [Do you even need to ask?]
[I can't guess Alaric's thoughts, I need to be sure,] Cassius's tone was clearly mocking.
He was still upset about Alaric risking his life for Cecilia.
[Don't take any action yet,] Alaric typed with one hand. [Just keep an eye on things.]
[Are you testing someone?] Cassius asked.
Alaric didn't explain.
But he did want to know how capable Cecilia really was.
Alaric put down his phone and watched Cecilia come out of the bathroom after her shower.
Every time she finished, her face was always flushed.
Alaric's throat moved up and down.
Cecilia lay down next to Alaric and fell asleep naturally.
She was so tired from work that she could fall asleep as soon as she lay down.
Besides, what if something happened to Alaric again in the middle of the night?
She needed to sleep as much as she could.
In the quiet darkness, just as Cecilia was about to drift into dreamland, Alaric's voice woke her up.
"Do you need my help?"
