Chapter 301 Turning Point of Fate I: Not Charming Enough
"So, what you're saying is, you still love Dominic, not Alaric?" Seraphina speculated.
"No, what I mean is, from now on, I love myself more," Cecilia said, enunciating each word clearly.
Seraphina looked at Cecilia and thought Cecilia wasn't like this.
In her mind, once Cecilia fell for someone, she would give her all.
"Let's not talk about me," Cecilia didn't want to say more.
In fact, she didn't want to sort out her feelings for Alaric.
Maybe she just didn't want to admit it.
She said, "How's your married life now?"
"What do you think?" Seraphina rolled her eyes, "It's as bad as it can get."
"After all this time with Dashiell, haven't you two sparked anything?" Cecilia asked.
"Don't say such scary things. Sparks? I don't even see him for more than half an hour a day." Seraphina replied.
Cecilia frowned.
"It's true. Dashiell doesn't leave his room. When he wasn't working, I entertained at night and slept during the day, so our schedules didn't match, and we didn't have much time to see each other." Seraphina explained.
"Now that I'm working, when I leave the house in the morning, Dashiell hasn't gotten up yet. When I get back, Dashiell has already gone back to his room," Seraphina said.
Seraphina thought, 'Sometimes, it's hard to know who is actually avoiding whom.'
Seraphina even wondered if this marriage was forced by her or by Dashiell.
She had the feeling that Dashiell rejected the marriage even more than she did.
She thought, 'Could it be that Dashiell doesn't actually like me either?
'He just married me to get the House of Everhart Bank?
'I knew Magnolia and Dashiell habr bad intentions.'
"Dashiell is being a bit too passive," Cecilia said quietly.
She thought she needed to give Dashiell some advice.
"A man like Dashiell, if he doesn't end up alone, I'll be surprised!" Seraphina concluded.
Cecilia didn't agree, but she didn't disagree either.
At this moment, the waiter started serving their food.
"Why not have a bit of red wine? I'm so drained today," Seraphina suggested.
Cecilia didn't hesitate to agree.
The two of them enjoyed their meal and sipped their wine.
Augustus was eating with them too, but he remained mostly silent and ate quietly.
"Don't drink too much, okay? I don't want you to get plastered," Cecilia advised Seraphina.
"Don't worry, I know my limits. I won't get drunk again. Last thing I need is to walk into the wrong room and end up in a mess," Seraphina replied.
"Did you really walk into the wrong room when you were drunk?" Cecilia asked, curious.
"Oh, that was during your family's anniversary party. I went to a nightspot afterwards and got pretty hammered. I ended up stumbling into Dashiell's room when I got back. Just thinking about it makes me want to gag."
"You and Dashiell—did you sleep together?" Cecilia asked bluntly.
Seraphina's face turned bright red, and she quickly shot back, "No way! If I had slept with Dashiell, I'd rather have thrown myself off a cliff."
Cecilia, unimpressed, shot back, "That just means you've got no charm."
Seraphina was taken aback, her eyes widening in shock.
"Isn't that the truth? You're a woman alone in a man's room, sharing a bed. If there's no spark, no passion, and nothing happens, it's pretty clear you don't have much of an effect on him. It's almost like he didn't even notice you were there. Don't you think your appeal to Dashiell is basically zero?"
Seraphina was nearly choking on her wine at this point.
She hadn't given it much thought before, but now that she did, it made a lot of sense.
Even though she had slept soundly that night, she would've noticed if anything had happened. And the way she woke up, draped over Dashiell, with him turned away—clearly, he wasn't interested.
She thought Dashiell was probably just after the Everhart family's money.
"So how's it with Alaric, then? Is it all smooth sailing in the bedroom?" Seraphina asked suddenly.
The question caught Cecilia off guard.
Cecilia thought, 'How should I answer?'
She and Alaric had shared a room and slept in the same bed, but nothing had ever happened between them.
"Definitely skilled, I'd say. It's usually about the guy. With someone like Alaric, you can bet he knows what he's doing," Seraphina commented.
Cecilia could barely take it anymore. She had a feeling Seraphina was about to dive into the nitty-gritty details of sex.
To steer the conversation away, Cecilia quickly changed the subject.
Fortunately, Seraphina was easily distracted, and they moved on to other topics.
At 8 PM, Cecilia and Seraphina left the restaurant.
Since Seraphina had been drinking, she couldn't drive herself and rode in Cecilia's car back to her apartment.
"Get some rest and make sure to be on top of your game tomorrow," Cecilia said, dropping Seraphina off at the entrance to her complex.
"Got it. You're more of a mother hen than Atticus."
"Atticus could never keep tabs on you."
"That's true," Seraphina admitted.
"Well, I'm heading out. Goodnight."
"Goodnight."
Cecilia drove away, leaving Seraphina watching the taillights of her car.
For some reason, she felt Cecilia had grown so much stronger. It seemed like she could handle life perfectly well on her own, unlike Seraphina, who found it impossible to bear solitude.
Just as Seraphina was about to enter her building, her phone rang.
"Seraphina, it's been ages since you last hit the nightclubs. Come join us tonight; the girls are missing you," a voice on the other end said.
"It's pretty late…"
"The night is just getting started, come on."
"I have work tomorrow."
"So what? It's your own company. What's a little late night fun compared to that? We haven't all been together in forever. We really want to see you."
"How about we do this another time?" Seraphina replied.
"Come on, is it because you're married now, and you're turning into a dutiful wife?" the voice teased.
"Stop joking around. I'm just tired from a long day at work."
"No wonder people say you and your husband were involved even back in school. Seems like you're just rekindling an old flame…"
"Shut up!" Seraphina snapped, furious. "Where are you? I'm coming over now!"
Seraphina couldn't stand anyone hinting at a past romance with Dashiell.
"Same old spot. See you soon," the voice said with a smirk, clearly enjoying the moment.
Seraphina hung up and hailed a cab, heading straight to the venue.
At the nightclub, the woman who had called Seraphina saidto Penelope, "Seraphina will be here soon."
"Give her this when she arrives," Penelope instructed, handing over the pill. "After the job's done, you'll have everything you want by tomorrow."
"Got it," the woman said without hesitation.
Penelope smirked.
She thought, 'Seraphina's party friends are indeed quite easy to manipulate.
'I'm looking forward to seeing my plan unfold, leaving Seraphina utterly wrecked.
'I'm determined not to be outdone.
'Dashiell would be mine, sooner or later.
'Dashiell is meant for me, and mine alone!'
