Chapter 121 I Take Marriage Seriously

Cassius finished up in the restroom and headed back to the private room.

Inside, Alaric was sipping his drink. Jasper and Rebecca were there too.

"Where's Dashiell?" Alaric asked.

"He got dragged off by that witch Seraphina," Cassius replied, clearly annoyed.

Cassius had never liked Seraphina. Dashiell had been heartbroken over her once, and he was worried it might happen again.

"Well, if Dashiell's gone, I'm out too," Alaric said, setting down his glass.

The whole point of tonight was to welcome Dashiell back. With him gone, there wasn't much reason to stick around.

"Yeah, let's call it a night," Jasper agreed.

Cassius couldn't believe it. "Seriously? It's not even midnight, and you guys are bailing?"

"I gotta hit the restroom. Rebecca, wait for me at the door," Jasper said.

"Sure," Rebecca nodded.

They all left the private room together and made their way to the entrance.

Just as Alaric was about to get into his car, Rebecca called out, "Alaric."

He stopped.

"I want to break up with Jasper," she said bluntly.

"That's your business," Alaric replied, his tone icy.

Rebecca pressed on, "I've tried, but I can't love anyone but you."

Alaric remained indifferent. "Still your business."

"I know your marriage to Cecilia is fake. I'm willing to wait for you," Rebecca said, her voice shaking a bit.

Cassius felt awkward. He, Alaric, Jasper, and Rebecca had been more than just classmates. They had a lot of history and secrets between them.

Everything had been fine until Rebecca confessed her feelings for Alaric. She was so obsessed with him that she even attempted suicide after several failed confessions. Out of spite, she ended up sleeping with Jasper.

Jasper had always liked Rebecca but never said anything because she was into Alaric. After they slept together, they naturally became a couple. But everyone knew Rebecca only had eyes for Alaric. It was just a matter of time before she and Jasper broke up.

Before Cecilia came into the picture, Cassius thought Alaric might end up with Rebecca. She was the only one who really understood him and could get close to him. But then Cecilia showed up, and everything changed.

Rebecca probably never expected Alaric to get married, let alone to someone else. She thought his rejection was due to his complicated life and that once things settled, they'd be together. Cecilia's arrival shattered that illusion.

At first, Rebecca convinced herself that Alaric and Cecilia's marriage was just a business arrangement. But as time went on, it became clear that Alaric had real feelings for Cecilia. Rebecca couldn't handle it anymore.

Tonight, Cassius had seen Rebecca clinging to Alaric multiple times.

Alaric was being patient with Rebecca, not pushing her away directly, but he wasn't giving her any hope either.

It was the same now.

With his usual cold demeanor, Alaric said, "I take marriage seriously."

"Alaric!" Rebecca broke down.

However, Alaric had already gotten into his car and driven off.

Rebecca's eyes were red with sadness.

Cassius sighed and noticed Jasper standing behind him. He decided to stay out of this messy love triangle.

Cassius got into his car and drove away, too. As he moved, he made a phone call.

He never understood why people got so heartbroken over relationships. To him, the purest and most harmonious relationship between a man and a woman was one of money and physical connection.

"Hey, darling, are you free tonight?" Cassius asked with a smile as the call connected.

"Mr. Blackburn, I thought you had forgotten about me," a sweet, soft voice replied.

"How could I forget your alluring figure?" Cassius said.

"Really?" the voice teased.

"Meet me at the usual place," Cassius replied.

"I have work tomorrow, so I can't stay out too late tonight," the girl said.

"I'll have you back by 2 AM," Cassius promised.

"You promise?"

"When have I ever lied to you?"

"Alright, I'll be there in half an hour," the girl said excitedly.

"Okay," Cassius hung up.

To him, relationships should be simple like this. Talking about feelings was too exhausting.

Under the same night sky, Seraphina stumbled off the stage, drunk. The man she had been holding hands with was nowhere to be seen.

What a buzzkill.

Of course, Seraphina wouldn't have done anything with that man. She had a boyfriend. Sometimes, she just liked to stir things up in such environments.

She wasn't like her friends, who had no idea how many men they had taken home.

She rubbed her slightly dizzy head. If she hadn't gone to dance, she wouldn't have become so dizzy.

Seraphina staggered out of the hall and directly into a car parked at the entrance, plopping down heavily.

The moment she sat down, she didn't even notice that someone else was there. All she wanted now was to get back to her big bed and lie down. She hadn't been this drunk in a long time.

Only Cecilia knew how to make her feel so bad. Because of what Cecilia said before, she had been in a bad mood ever since, drowning her sorrows in alcohol.

At this moment, she seemed to recall what Cecilia had said. Maybe it was driven by the alcohol, but Seraphina angrily took out her phone and dialed Sebastian's number.

"Seraphina," came the voice on the other end.

"Sebastian, when are you going to marry me?" Seraphina complained.

"Seraphina, are you drunk?" Sebastian asked.

"I'm not drunk!" Seraphina refused to admit it. "I just want to ask you, when are you going to marry me?"

"Seraphina, you're really drunk. Where are you? I'll come get you," Sebastian said.

"I don't need your tenderness and care. I don't need your compliance. I want to marry you, sleep with you, and have a bunch of kids with you!" Seraphina shouted.

"Seraphina..."

"Sebastian, what are you hesitating about? What are you afraid of?" Seraphina's eyes suddenly reddened. She felt incredibly wronged. "Is it so hard to marry me?"

Dashiell sat beside her, quietly watching Seraphina. He watched as her tears fell in large drops.

So, all of Seraphina's unusual behavior today was because she fought with Sebastian.
