Chapter 170 New Product Launch
Cecilia listened to Rose and went quiet.
Rose also went quiet.
She didn't want to discourage Cecilia, especially not in front of Michael, so she held back.
She stayed silent, worried it might get awkward.
The atmosphere got a bit tense.
Cecilia suddenly said, "Ok."
Rose looked at her.
What did Cecilia mean by that?
Was she still thinking about moving in or not?
Rose wasn't sure.
So on Saturday, she cautiously texted Cecilia, asking if she needed help picking out a dress. Cecilia just sent her a location.
She knew it.
Cecilia wasn't one to give up.
She rushed to the haute couture section and saw Cecilia picking a dress from Harmony Threads. Worse, Rebecca was there too.
The sales associate was seriously introducing dresses to them.
They didn't want to offend anyone but were clearly more enthusiastic about Rebecca.
Rose quietly stepped beside Cecilia.
Then she heard the sales associate complimenting Rebecca, "Ms. Adams, our design director Arthur James said you can wear any of our haute couture dresses. We look forward to your stunning appearance tonight."
Rebecca smirked and glanced at Cecilia with a sense of superiority. "Did Arthur have any recommandations?"
"Of course," the sales associate replied quickly. "These two here, Mr. James said they would suit you perfectly, Ms. Adams. You can try them on; they are our featured pieces for tonight. If you choose one, we'll replace the model's dress with yours for the showcase."
"Let me try this one," Rebecca pointed to a golden long-tail dress.
The sales associate quickly took it down and led her to the fitting room.
Cecilia kept looking for her dress.
She overheard Rebecca's conversation with the sales associate.
So Rebecca would be on stage tonight?
Of course.
As the chief model of Harmony Threads, Rebecca's return to the stage after two years would bring great publicity.
Cecilia thought calmly and asked, "Where are the haute couture dresses from Crane this season?"
"Sorry, Mrs. Whitaker, Crane's dresses are always limited editions and can't be sold before their official release. We hope you understand," the sales associate said apologetically.
Cecilia didn't make a fuss.
She turned to Rose, "Pick a dress for yourself; I need to make a call."
"Yes," Rose replied respectfully.
Cecilia walked to the side.
After a while, she came back.
She saw Rose had picked a simple black evening dress.
As a secretary, Rose often accompanied her boss to events but knew not to outshine her, so she chose the most understated style.
At that moment, Rebecca walked out in her dress.
The golden dress looked stunning under the lights.
Everyone's eyes were on Rebecca.
It had to be mentioned.
Rebecca, with her 5.74-foot height, slender figure, and natural stage presence as a supermodel, had every reason to be proud.
She looked at herself in the mirror, satisfied, and then gave Cecilia a provocative glance.
Cecilia glanced at Rebecca.
She didn't give her a second thought and turned to Rose. "Go change into your dress."
"Okay."
Rose followed the sales associate to the fitting room.
Rebecca sneered at Cecilia.
Sure, Cecilia was beautiful, but so what?
Tonight, Rebecca would be the star.
"Ms. Adams, you look like this dress was made for you; it's stunning!" the sales associate gushed.
Rebecca smiled, "Tell Arthur I want this one."
"Of course," the sales associate quickly agreed. "Would you like us to do your makeup here?"
"No need. I have to check out the runway for tonight's show, and Arthur will arrange a makeup artist for me," Rebecca said, emphasizing her special relationship with Harmony Threads to Cecilia.
Cecilia didn't care.
She watched indifferently as Rebecca, in her elegant dress, walked past her.
As she passed, Rebecca paused and said without looking back, "Don't even think about going after Harmony Threads. You don't stand a chance."
Cecilia sneered.
'We'll see.'
Rebecca left.
The store manager hurried over, showing great respect to Cecilia, "Mrs. Whitaker, I apologize for the delay. I just received direct instructions from Harmony Threads' top management. I will personally assist you in selecting a haute couture dress from Crane. This way, please."
Cecilia nodded slightly.
Under the surprised gazes of many sales associates, she went to the Crane haute couture dress section.
It was well known that no one had ever been allowed to wear a Crane dress before its official release.
At 7 PM.
Cecilia, accompanied by Rose, arrived on time at the Harmony Threads new product launch event.
The venue featured a high-end T-shaped runway.
Chairs were arranged on both sides and in front of the stage.
The lights were focused on the stage, making it hard to recognize anyone in the dim surroundings.
Cecilia was led to her seat by the event staff.
As a member of a powerful conglomerate, Cecilia naturally had a good seat.
It was also likely a thoughtful arrangement by the organizers.
The seats for the four major families were on the left side of the runway, closest to the stage.
As Cecilia took her seat, she saw Alaric, Cassius, Seraphina, Sebastian, Dominic, and Penelope under the stage lights.
She wasn't surprised to see the others.
But seeing Alaric, she thought, 'Alaric's leg was injured, and he still came to watch the show?'
The key was that when she left home this afternoon, Alaric hadn't mentioned he would attend the event. She had assumed other members of the Whitaker family, like the eldest son Christopher or the second son Jasper, would attend. She hadn't even thought that Alaric, at the moment, would be sitting right here, right next to her.
Cecilia quietly took her seat without initiating a conversation with Alaric.
In the silence.
"Don't you and your husband go out together?" Seraphina's voice suddenly sounded next to Cecilia.
Cecilia was speechless.
Why did Seraphina always say things that made people uncomfortable?
