Chapter 618 Transference of Affection

Seraphina never thought the next few days would be this hectic.

Dashiell was working like a maniac, from 8 AM to midnight.

Sometimes, he even pulled all-nighters.

Seraphina had already spent two nights crashing at the office with Dashiell.

She couldn't handle it anymore.

She felt like if this kept up, she'd work herself to death.

Even though Dashiell spent most of his time in meetings making plans while she dozed off on the side.

Tonight, no matter what, she wasn't sticking around for Dashiell's crazy overtime!

So, Seraphina barged into Dashiell's office and said, "I'm done for the day."

It was exactly 5:30 PM, right on the dot.

Hearing her, Dashiell glanced at the time on his computer screen and just grunted.

Seraphina frowned a bit.

Dashiell just let her go like that?

So nice of him!

Seraphina was ready for a fight!

His straightforwardness left her feeling a bit flattered, even a bit lost.

She stood there, stunned for a few seconds.

Then Seraphina turned and left anyway.

After all, she didn't care about Dashiell's feelings or whatever scheme he was up to.

The door closed behind her.

Dashiell glanced at it and then went back to his work.

After digging deeper, it was clear that Unity World Bank was pulling every trick to snatch Everhart Bank's partner companies. Any small mistake by Everhart Bank could lead to its downfall.

So, there was no room for slacking.

They had to come up with the best plan in the shortest time and then sign contracts with each company individually.

At that moment, Seraphina went back to her office to pack up and get ready to leave.

She picked up the mirror on her desk and looked at herself. Working with Dashiell had taken a toll on her; her complexion was suffering, marked by pimples on her chin and dark circles under her eyes. She looked utterly exhausted.

Seeing this, she quickly picked up the phone and made an appointment at the beauty salon for the evening.

Then she happily left work.

Just as she reached the main entrance, she saw Sebastian.

Seraphina was a bit surprised.

With Dashiell being so busy lately, Sebastian was leaving work this early?

Sebastian clearly noticed Seraphina at that moment as well. She had been working overtime so much that he had asked her out for dinner several times, only to be turned down, resulting in their lack of recent contact. Now, their sudden encounter brought back a sense of familiarity.

Seraphina took the initiative to walk up to Sebastian and ask, "Sebastian, are you off work this early tonight?"

"Yeah," Sebastian replied, "I've been getting off work early these days."

Seraphina asked, "Not busy?"

"Not much to do," Sebastian said wryly.

The underlying meaning was that he wasn't being given important tasks and had nothing significant to work on.

"Let's have dinner together tonight," Seraphina suggested.

She sensed that her relationship with Sebastian had really become distant lately, to the extent that she almost forgot she even had a boyfriend named Sebastian.

She used to care a lot about Sebastian.

She felt it was necessary to rekindle those old feelings.

"I have a dinner meeting with a client tonight," Sebastian said with a hint of regret. "I assumed you were busy, so..."

Seraphina replied, "It's okay. I have a beauty appointment tonight. Dashiell has been driving me crazy lately."

"Why do you have to stay by Dashiell's side?" Sebastian suddenly asked.Seraphina was caught off guard. She knew Sebastian was upset, but he usually kept it to himself. Biting her lip, she said, "My dad said..."

"Is it really Mr. Everhart, or do you actually want to?" Sebastian cut her off.

Seraphina suddenly found it hard to continue.

Because she didn't know if it was because of Atticus or herself.

Sebastian could see every emotion flickering across Seraphina's face.

After a fleeting moment of coldness, he gently said, "I'm not trying to force you into anything; I'm just jealous."

Seraphina bit her lip lightly.

"Come on, let me walk you to your car," Sebastian said, reaching out to take Seraphina's hand.

Seraphina's fingers twitched slightly.

Sitting in the car, she felt like she was on pins and needles.

She felt inexplicably agitated.

She thought for a moment and called Cecilia, "I feel so repressed lately; I want to let loose."

"What's wrong?" Cecilia was also on her way home at that moment.

She tried to spend as much time as possible with Alaric, so she would go home right after work.

She avoided working overtime whenever possible.

Seraphina replied, "I don't know. I just feel really annoyed. It's probably because Dashiell has been pushing me too hard."

"What has he been pushing you to do?" Cecilia laughed.

"I've been working overtime with him for more than half a month. I even got pimples on my chin!" Seraphina was exasperated.

Cecilia responded, "Pimples on your chin are due to hormonal imbalance."

Seraphina said, "It's because I've been working long hours every day, with no regular schedule..."

Cecilia remarked, "Your life was never on a regular schedule before, and you didn't get pimples!"

"I..." Seraphina could never win an argument with Cecilia.

Cecilia said, "You haven't been physically satisfied."

"What?" Seraphina almost jumped up.

Cecilia responded, "Adults have sexual needs; you're craving sex."

Seraphina exclaimed, "Cecilia, I can't believe you said that. Have you been having a great time with Alaric..."

"I'm just stating the facts about your body," Cecilia didn't want to be teased by Seraphina, so she quickly changed the subject, "Haven't you and Sebastian had sex yet?"

Seraphina felt a bit melancholic.

She replied, "No. We've both been busy."

"Is it hard for you?" Cecilia asked.

Hard?

Not really.

Seraphina just felt a bit pitiful at the moment.

She couldn't help but think about how she was at such a beautiful age, yet here she was grappling with a longing for intimacy.

"Cecilia, what does it feel like to fall out of love?" Seraphina suddenly asked.

"It's when you used to really like someone, but now you only feel guilty. When they get close, you feel repelled, but rejecting them makes you feel guilty. When you don't see them, you don't miss them, but when you do, you want to make it up to them. But when you're actually together, you feel uncomfortable," Cecilia said calmly.

Seraphina's heart suddenly experienced a sharp pang.

She bit her lip.

She didn't want to admit that she didn't love Sebastian anymore.

"I'm not done," Cecilia continued, "Falling for someone else means developing romantic feelings for another person. Even though you know you shouldn't, you're still attracted to them. You keep telling yourself you hate them, even acting like it. You meet their demands with a face full of displeasure and harsh words, but in the end, you still fulfill their requests, almost as if it's instinct!"
