Chapter 351 The Battle Between Mother-in-Law and Daughter-in-Law

After Atticus bounced, Seraphina scarfed down the last of her oatmeal.

She got up from the table, feeling kinda stuffed and needing to stretch her legs.

Just as she hit the living room, there was another knock at the door.

Seraphina scowled.

She yanked the door open. "Didn't I tell you to scram? Why are you back..."

Before she could finish, she saw it was Magnolia standing there.

She'd thought it was Atticus coming back to bug her again.

Seeing Magnolia, Seraphina's face soured.

"So, you know too?" Seraphina's voice was dripping with emotion.

"My daughter-in-law's pregnant, why wouldn't I know?" Magnolia shot back, her eyebrows arching.

Magnolia had that whole noblewoman vibe going on, oozing confidence.

'Damn. She's not even some big shot anymore, so what's with the attitude?' Seraphina thought, rolling her eyes.

Dashiell's gossip game was on point.

Usually, he was quiet as a mouse, but when it came to spreading news, he was lightning fast.

"Anyway, I'm not keeping it," Seraphina said, just to rile Magnolia up.

Why should it be? Atticus didn't like Mary but liked Magnolia.

"If you didn't plan to keep it, why'd you get pregnant?" Magnolia's face twisted.

Magnolia's attitude was a far cry from when she was playing the sweet stepmom.

Seraphina always knew Magnolia was just faking it back then!

"You think I wanted to get pregnant?" Seraphina snapped.

She was already pissed about the baby, and now this old bat Magnolia had the nerve to say that.

"If it wasn't your choice, did Dashiell force you?" Magnolia shot back.

Seraphina was left speechless by Magnolia's comeback.

After all, it wasn't like Dashiell forced her.

Magnolia stared her down and continued, "Dashiell's disabled; if you didn't start it, what could he have done to you?"

Seraphina almost choked.

So in Magnolia's mind, she was the one who jumped into Dashiell's bed?

She was the one who started it.

Seraphina thought about it, and yeah, it kinda was her.

She took the meds, couldn't hold back, and ended up with Dashiell.

Seraphina turned red under Magnolia's provoking words.

"I don't care about your young people's drama. I'm here to take care of my granddaughter, your thing with Dashiell is none of my business," Magnolia said, all high and mighty.

"What did you say? You're here to take care of your granddaughter?" Seraphina stared at Magnolia.

"Lucy," Magnolia didn't answer Seraphina, she hollered towards the room where Lucy was sorting the bags Atticus had brought, "Come help me with my luggage."

"Why'd you bring luggage?" Seraphina's eyes went wide.

"Didn't I just say? I'm here to take care of my granddaughter!" Magnolia said, all impatient.

"Who is your granddaughter?" Seraphina was fuming.

"Isn't she in your belly?" Magnolia replied.

"Who said it's definitely a granddaughter?" Seraphina asked.

"Before the baby is born, I say it's a granddaughter, it's a granddaughter. I say it's a grandson, it's a grandson. What can you do about it?" Magnolia declared, all bossy.

Seraphina was about to blow a gasket.

Magnolia finally showed her true colors.

All those years of playing nice were just an act.

"Ms. Rainier, you're here." Lucy came running out of the room, looking all excited.

"Help me lug this stuff to the room, I'm crashing here from now on," Magnolia said like it was no big deal.

Lucy grabbed the luggage in a flash.

Seraphina watched as Magnolia and Lucy strutted into the house like they owned the place.

"Who said you could stay here?" Seraphina yelled at Magnolia, "This is my house! Did I say you could stay?"

"This is my son's house," Magnolia shot back, not budging an inch.

When Magnolia was her stepmom, they never butted heads like this.

"Don't think I don't know, this house was definitely bought with my dad's money," Seraphina snapped.

Magnolia just smiled, a smug, mocking smile.

Seraphina was fuming. How dare this old bat laugh at her?

Magnolia married Atticus for his money, and Seraphina knew it.

"No wonder you can't figure out who to love or who loves you," Magnolia sneered, "I'm afraid my granddaughter will inherit your smarts!"

"Magnolia!" Seraphina was so mad she could barely get the words out.

Magnolia ignored her.

She turned to Lucy, "Clear out Seraphina's room for me, I'll stay there."

"On what grounds?" Seraphina was about to lose it.

Who did Magnolia think she was?

Magnolia waltzed into her house and now wanted her room?

"There are only three rooms: one for Dashiell, one for Lucy, so of course, I can only stay in your room," Magnolia said like it was the most obvious thing in the world.

"Where will I stay then?" Seraphina was on the edge of a meltdown.

"Anywhere, you can stay with Dashiell..." Magnolia suggested with a smirk.

"In your dreams!" Seraphina snapped, her face red with rage.

"Or you can bunk with Lucy," Magnolia continued nonchalantly.

"If Ms. Everhart doesn't mind," Lucy quickly offered.

"As if I'd want to share a room with you," Seraphina retorted, glaring at Lucy.

"Then you can stay with me," Magnolia said directly.

"I'd rather die than stay with you!" Seraphina gritted her teeth.

"Then you'll have to sleep on the couch," Magnolia said with a shrug.

Seraphina just glared daggers at her.

She really wanted to strangle Magnolia!

"Lucy, clean the room," Magnolia ordered.

Lucy quickly agreed and headed to Seraphina's bedroom.

Magnolia didn't give Seraphina another glance and walked straight to Dashiell's bedroom, knocking on the door.

Dashiell opened it, and they went in together.

The living room was left with only Seraphina.

She was so mad she felt like she might explode.

They say pregnant women shouldn't get angry.

Magnolia must've come just to piss her off.

'Could it be that Magnolia doesn't want her to have this baby and is trying to stress her out to cause a miscarriage? What a vile witch!' Seraphina thought.

Inside Dashiell's bedroom, Magnolia said, "I'm moving in temporarily. Seraphina's too clumsy, I don't trust her."

"I'm afraid if you're here, Seraphina will break down," Dashiell replied.

"Don't worry, I've lived with her for years, I know her personality. I won't push her too far," Magnolia said confidently.

"Okay," Dashiell didn't argue.

He knew Magnolia wasn't one to act on a whim.

Once she decided on something, it usually worked out.

"By the way, I'll stay in Seraphina's room. Later, you should offer your room to Seraphina and sleep on the couch," Magnolia said, "Seraphina won't be able to stand it."

Seraphina was no match for Magnolia.
