Chapter 588 We Can Never Go Back to the Way We Were

She wanted to say, "I feel like we can't go back to how we were before..."

But before Seraphina could finish, Sebastian interrupted her.

"I know you've been feeling down lately, with your dad forcing you into stuff you don't want to do. You're really unhappy. Just give me a bit more time, and I'll give you the life you want, let you do whatever you want."

Seraphina looked at Sebastian, seeing the anxiety and unease written all over his face.

She lowered her eyes, feeling super uncomfortable about how her feelings for Sebastian were changing.

She really thought she would love Sebastian forever, that he was the only one for her.

"Seraphina," Sebastian said softly, taking her hand.

She pursed her lips, feeling a bit resistant but also not wanting to pull away.

"I'll become the best man for you, be your rock," Sebastian vowed, his voice full of emotion.

The turmoil in Seraphina's heart grew stronger.

They had been together for so many years.

Since high school, Sebastian had always worked hard to make her life better. Now, she couldn't just be indifferent to him, let alone hurt him.

But her silence and hesitation didn't go unnoticed by Sebastian. He knew exactly what she was about to say.

She wanted to break up with him!

Sebastian knew Seraphina too well.

When she liked someone, she was all in.

But once she started to dislike someone, she could easily ignore their existence, not even pretending to care.

Lately, her distancing had made it clear to him that she had started to fall for someone else.

But Sebastian couldn't accept it. He couldn't accept that Seraphina had fallen for Dashiell in the end.

He had worked so hard to win her back from Dashiell, and there was no way he was letting her go back to him.

Luckily, Seraphina was soft-hearted, sometimes compromising out of guilt.

As long as Sebastian showed deep affection, she couldn't bring herself to say or do certain things.

Sure enough, Seraphina nodded silently, "Okay."

It was somewhat perfunctory, but at least she didn't say "breakup."

Sebastian acted like he didn't notice her struggle and said gently, "It's late, go back and rest. See you tomorrow."

"See you tomorrow."

Seraphina opened the car door and got out.

Sebastian watched her walk away.

Once she was out of sight, his expression changed completely.

He clenched his fists, his face twisted with determination.

He would never lose to Dashiell.

Within two months, he would make sure Dashiell left in disgrace!

A week later.

Alaric had been discharged from the hospital.

The doctor suggested he stay a few more days for observation, but Alaric hated the hospital and insisted on leaving. Cecilia had no choice but to handle the discharge and take him back to his villa.

In the morning, Cecilia and Alaric were having breakfast together.

Alaric could still only eat liquid food.

Every time she saw him eating, Cecilia felt uncomfortable.

And because he couldn't exercise or eat properly, he had lost a lot of weight.

"Honey, if you keep looking at me like that, I'm afraid I won't be able to control myself," Alaric said, even though he was just eating porridge. He could sense Cecilia's expression.

Cecilia rolled her eyes. Even in this state, Alaric was still being cheeky.

"You know I've been very sexually frustrated lately..."

"No." George happened to walk in and cut Alaric off seriously before Cecilia could respond.

Cecilia's face turned a bit red, and Alaric looked a bit embarrassed.

"Mr. Whitaker, you must abstain from sex during this period," George said sternly. "You need to wait until your body has fully recovered."

Alaric coughed twice, trying to hint to George to stop talking, but George was relentless. "If you can't control yourself, Mr. Whitaker, I'll personally take care of your daily needs, and Mrs. Whitaker will sleep in a separate room."

Alaric's expression changed noticeably. Who wanted George to take care of him?

Cecilia found it inexplicably funny and laughed gloatingly on the side.

"No need," Alaric refused directly. "I'm not used to others taking care of me."

"Am I 'others'?" George looked hurt.

Even Cecilia felt a bit sorry for George.

"What I mean is..." Alaric tried to explain.

George interrupted again, "I've been with you since you were a child. When you were afraid of the dark as a kid, I was the one who slept with you. I've always taken care of you, and you even said you wanted me by your side for life. Now that you have a wife, are you starting to dislike me?"

Alaric was speechless.

Cecilia felt that George was really aggrieved. Alaric was a typical example of burning bridges after crossing them.

Cecilia found Alaric's helpless look very amusing. Even Alaric had things he couldn't handle.

Cecilia said, "George, Alaric is worried about you being too tired. You're getting older now, and taking care of your health is the most important thing."

George looked at Cecilia with a deeply hurt expression.

"Actually, I wanted to say that I've been on vacation for quite a while. My dad called yesterday asking when I would return to work, and I promised him I would go today. So while I'm not here, you still need to take good care of Alaric."

Alaric glanced at Cecilia.

Cecilia said directly, "You don't need to rush back to work. I've already arranged for you to take a month off from the State Office. You can rest at home until you recover."

"Okay," Alaric responded.

Cecilia then said to George, "George, was Alaric afraid of the dark when he was little?"

She was trying to comfort George by bringing up topics he was interested in.

"Yes," George said quickly. "When Mr. Whitaker was 3 or 4 years old, I officially started taking care of him. When I first saw him, I thought he was the most beautiful child in the world, indescribably beautiful."

Cecilia imagined the scene. She had seen Alaric when he was little, but because she had always focused on Dominic, she didn't have much impression of Alaric.

"The first time I met Mr. Whitaker, he was very cold, didn't talk to me or smile at me. It took at least a year of taking care of him before he became a bit closer to me," George reminisced about the past, talking at length.

Cecilia listened attentively.

Alaric rarely interrupted them. It seemed he also wanted Cecilia to know more about his past.
