Chapter 291 Seraphina Was Driven Insane
Atticus agreed to Cecilia's suggestion.
Cecilia then told Dashiell about her plan, and although Dashiell was a bit hesitant, he eventually agreed.
After all, this was the only way to force Seraphina to work properly.
So on that day, all of Seraphina's cards were frozen.
She tried all her cards, but every attempt was failed.
Seraphina felt extremely embarrassed at the beauty salon, utterly humiliated.
She didn't know where else to go today, so she went to the beauty salon for some massages.
She wanted to enjoy herself while recharging her energy.
Last night's drunkenness was still a bit of an afterthought today.
She wasn't going to let Dashiell affect her mood.
However, she never expected that when she was done enjoying herself, she was actually told that all her cards could not be spent!
Seraphina quickly called Atticus, "Are you bankrupt?"
That was her opening line, which almost made Atticus spit out blood.
"Otherwise, why would all my cards have no money?" Seraphina asked bluntly.
"I froze them," Atticus said calmly.
"What do you mean?!" Seraphina's temper exploded all of a sudden, "Why did you suddenly freeze my cards?! Are you going to give all the assets to Magnolia, aren't you?"
"To whom I give that is also my business." Seraphina and Atticus couldn't talk for more than two sentences without arguing, "You haven't contributed anything to this family. Everything is mine, and I can do whatever I want with it! It's not up to you to tell me what to do!"
Seraphina was shaking with anger.
Although she and Atticus never had a good relationship growing up, he had never spoken to her like this before.
It was always her who threw tantrums at Atticus.
Seraphina gritted her teeth and prepared to hang up the phone.
After all, she couldn't bring herself to ask him for money.
"You're 22 years old and have graduated from college. My responsibility to support you ends here. I won't give you another penny unconditionally. If you want money, either get a job yourself or come work at the House of Everhart Bank." Atticus said bluntly.
Seraphina wasn't intimidated by Atticus' threat; she hung up the phone immediately.
She then called Cecilia, "Cecilia, transfer some money to me."
"Why?" Cecilia asked.
She actually knew the reason.
But she didn't expect Atticus to act so quickly.
"Atticus froze all my cards." Seraphina explained.
"Really?" Cecilia even chuckled a bit.
"Are you gloating?" Seraphina questioned.
"No, I feel upset for you." Cecilia explained.
Seraphina didn't believe her.
Seraphina said, "Hurry up and transfer some money to me. I'm at the beauty salon, and my cards are frozen. I can't pay."
"How much?" Cecilia asked.
Seraphina asked the staff and replied, "Four thousand dollars."
"If I transfer to you, when will you pay me back?" Cecilia continued to ask.
Seraphina thought, 'Does she have to be so realistic?'
"How long?" Cecilia pressed.
Seraphina added, "You know Atticus froze my cards. How would I know when I can pay you back? And four thousand dollars isn't a big amount. Given our friendship, are you really going to make me repay you?"
"Even close siblings settle accounts clearly." Cecilia's tone was firm.
"Cecilia! Are you trying to piss me off?" Seraphina blurted.
Cecilia uttered, "Atticus has frozen your cards. From now on, you'll have to ask for money every time you spend. I can't keep supporting you like this! It's hard for me to make money too."
Seraphina was so angry she couldn't speak.
She was already furious with Atticus.
Now Cecilia was making her even angrier.
Seraphina thought, 'What kind of friend do I have?'
Just as Seraphina was about to slam the phone down in frustration, a sudden thought struck her. She shouted, "Cecilia, are you in cahoots with Atticus?! You told me to get to work this morning, and when I didn't, you and Atticus came up with this devious scheme?! How low can you go?"
"I didn't expect you to be so quick on the uptake," Cecilia replied with a hint of a smile.
"It really is you! Am I even your friend if you're going to sabotage me like this?" Seraphina exclaimed. She couldn't believe that Atticus, who usually tried to please her, would turn against her like this.
"Actually, you do have another option if you refuse to work at the Everhart Group," Cecilia said, her tone surprisingly kind.
"And what's that?" Seraphina asked, though she doubted Cecilia would offer anything beneficial.
"You could try flattering Dashiell and get him to give you some money to spend," Cecilia suggested bluntly.
"Are you kidding me?! Dashiell's money comes from Atticus. How could he possibly have any left to give me? You've really overestimated Dashiell."
"Seraphina, do you have some sort of misconception about Dashiell?" Cecilia asked, incredulous.
Dashiell was the top hacker in the Yakurosean Empire; just one of his deals could set someone up for life.
"No matter what I misunderstand, I'm not going to grovel to Dashiell!" Seraphina said firmly.
"Then it looks like your only option is to work for Atticus."
"I refuse!"
"Do you really have a choice?" Cecilia asked, her voice unyielding.
Seraphina gritted her teeth. She felt like everyone was plotting against her.
"One last piece of advice: negotiate with Atticus for a better salary. Otherwise, he'll give you a regular employee's wage, and I'm afraid you'll spend it all in a day."
Seraphina was on the verge of tears from the frustration.
"Believe me, the people least likely to harm you in this world are Atticus, me, and Dashiell."
With that, Cecilia hung up.
She was worried that if she continued, Seraphina might be pushed too far and collapse under the stress.
Seraphina was indeed on the brink of breaking down. Her eyes were red with anger and frustration.
Since marrying Dashiell, it felt like nothing had gone her way. The staff nearby didn't dare say a word, sensing her rage.
The standoff lasted for what felt like an eternity.
Another staff member knocked and entered. "Ms. Everhart, someone has already made a payment on your behalf."
Seraphina was taken aback. She looked at the staff member, still in disbelief.
"The payment has been made," the staff member reiterated.
"Who made the payment?" Seraphina asked.
"The payer didn't leave a name."
It was obvious. It had to be Cecilia. Despite her tough talk, Cecilia had a soft spot.
Seraphina left the salon, her mood even worse. She drove around aimlessly, fuming.
She had planned to do some shopping and buy new clothes and bags after her beauty treatment, but now she had no money. She couldn't afford even a drink, let alone a designer bag.
At the peak of her frustration, she noticed her car was running low on gas. In a fit of anger, she parked by the side of the road.
She sat in her car, overwhelmed by a sense that the whole world was conspiring against her.
