Chapter 311 Seraphina Was Moved

Seraphina drove to the café, and as soon as she walked into the hall, she saw Sebastian already sitting by the window waiting for her.

Whenever their appointments, as long as they were said to be in advance, Sebastian arrived early.

No matter how busy he was, he would go to the appointment first, and only after that would he deal with his work.

Seraphina just couldn't understand why their relationship, which was so good, was drifting further and further apart.

She walked over, Sebastian had already stood up from his seat. He gentlemanly pulled out a chair for Seraphina, as if it were a habitual action, which made Seraphina feel a twinge of sadness.

"Thank you." Seraphina's words hung in the air, distancing them both further apart.

Sebastian smiled, though the expression was tinged with bitterness.

They sat facing each other, an invisible wall between them.

"I ordered your favorite cappuccino, with extra milk and sugar," Sebastian said, attempting to ease the tension that filled the space between them.

Seraphina nodded slightly, her gaze fixed on him. "Sebastian, I came to talk about what happened last night."

"Yeah, I figured as much." He nodded in response. "Go ahead, I'm listening."

"Was it you who took me away from the club last night?"

"That was me," he admitted.

"Then why weren't you at the hotel when Cecilia came looking for me?"

"I left on my own," he replied, the weight of his words heavy.

Seraphina felt her eyes well up with tears, confusion flooding her mind. She thought, 'Why did he leave? If he had stayed, we could have been together last night, and I wouldn't have ended up in bed with Dashiell.'

"I can't hurt you," Sebastian said, his voice laced with sorrow. "I know you needed me last night, but I just couldn't let myself go. I was afraid you'd regret it when you woke up."

"Did you ever think about whether I'd regret sleeping with another man?" she shot back.

"Seraphina, you're married now. Being with me would hurt you in the long run. You'd have to bear the shame of cheating. I can't let you carry that burden!"

"So you think it's better that I give my first time to a man I don't love instead?" she challenged.

"Who did you sleep with last night?" Sebastian asked, a hint of anxiety in his voice.

Seraphina nodded, unable to hide the truth.

She thought, 'Yes, I slept with Dashiell.

'Multiple times.

'Each time, I have initiated it.'

Tears streamed down Seraphina's face, completely beyond her control.

"I thought leaving you alone at the hotel would help you…" Sebastian trailed off, looking utterly miserable.

"I couldn't stay in that hotel room because I was afraid I'd lose control. And the reason I didn't take you home was that I didn't want you with another man… Call it selfish if you want. In my mind, even though you're married, you'll always be pure. I couldn't bear to know you'd been with someone else. Call me selfish; I know it's twisted, clinging to those feelings despite knowing we can't go back," Sebastian said, his voice breaking.

Seraphina struggled to hold back her emotions, her body trembling with suppressed pain.

She had once been pure.

But now, that purity felt utterly lost.

"Sebastian, I truly hate your cowardice. If you had just been a little braver, you'd be the one standing next to me right now, and we'd face Dashiell together instead of me having to confront you like this!" Seraphina's anger finally erupted, unable to be contained any longer.

Sebastian absorbed Seraphina's accusations in silence, unable to muster a single word in response.

Seraphina found herself at a loss for what to say next.

Cecilia had urged her to get clarity, and now she had it: Sebastian's cowardice was the root cause. There was no other explanation.

She rose to leave.

"Seraphina." Sebastian's hand shot out, catching her wrist.

Seraphina's fingers twitched slightly at the unexpected touch.

"I'll wait for you," Sebastian said suddenly, his voice almost a whisper.

Seraphina's heart skipped a beat.

She thought she must have misheard him.

She thought, 'After Sebastian has let me marry Dashiell, after he has given up on being with me, and now that I have been intimate with Dashiell, Sebastian is saying this?

'I have thought our story has ended long ago, and that this is the final, irrevocable closure.'

Instead of clearing up last night's events, she had come to tell Sebastian that her relationship with Dashiell was real, that there was no chance left between them.

"I don't care about your body or your current marital status. I'm willing to wait for you, no matter how long it takes."

Seraphina's tears began to flow more freely.

Sebastian's willingness to settle for such a painful compromise left her feeling utterly powerless.

Without thinking, she turned and threw herself into Sebastian's arms.

In the wake of the events from the previous night, she desperately needed this kind of support, this kind of embrace.

She held him tightly.

Sebastian returned the embrace with equal fervor.

They clung to each other as if they were a couple on the brink of parting forever.

They stayed like that for a long while.

Eventually, Sebastian loosened his hold, and Seraphina did the same.

Their eyes met.

Sebastian, with a gentle tone, said, "Stop crying. It breaks my heart to see you like this."

"Why would you rather wait for me like this instead of having the courage to fight alongside me?" Seraphina asked, her voice trembling.

"Because I'm not capable. There are many things I can't do, but I can always stay right here and wait for you," Sebastian replied quietly.

"Sebastian…"

"I don't feel wronged. In this life, there's no other woman I could ever love besides you. Don't feel guilty because this is all my choice. Even if you end up loving Dashiell in the end, I'll have no regrets."

Seraphina was left speechless, choked up by the depth of Sebastian's feelings.

She thought, 'How could there be a man in the world who is better to her than Sebastian?!

'Someday, I will return to him.'

At the Lockhart Group office, Cecilia sat at her desk, contemplating before she decided to call Dashiell.

Seeing Cecilia's call, Dashiell answered, "Cecilia."

"Has Seraphina left?" Cecilia asked.

"Yes," Dashiell confirmed with a nod.

"She went to find Sebastian," Cecilia said candidly.

"I figured as much."

The moment Seraphina left their home, he knew she would seek out Sebastian. After everything that happened last night, she needed someone to lean on.

"I've actually looked into last night's incident. It turns out that Seraphina was drugged by someone she used to associate with. Sebastian has no involvement at all," Cecilia shared, choosing to discuss it with Dashiell instead of with Seraphina.

"I know it wasn't Sebastian. He wouldn't set himself up like that."

"Why do you say that?" Cecilia asked, intrigued.
