Chapter 146 How Much Does Alaric Love Cecilia

The doctor's words made everyone breathe a sigh of relief.

Meanwhile, the nurses were wheeling Alaric out of the operating room.

"Alaric!" Cassius rushed over, calling his name.

Everyone else followed suit.

"How are you? Do you recognize me? Who am I?" Cassius asked, his voice full of excitement.

Alaric's face and body were wrapped in bandages, making him look almost comical.

He just stared at Cassius without saying a word.

"Did you lose your mind?" Cassius got nervous when Alaric didn't respond.

Alaric simply closed his eyes.

"Doctor, is he brain-damaged?" Cassius grabbed the nearest doctor, his voice urgent.

The doctor, startled by Cassius's outburst, began to doubt his own diagnosis. He walked over to check on Alaric.

"No need. I'm fine," Alaric said, his voice surprisingly clear.

"Alaric, you're not brain-damaged? Then why didn't you say anything?" Cassius complained.

Alaric replied, "I didn't feel like talking."

"Why? Are you in pain? If something's wrong, you need to speak up. What if something serious happens because you're keeping quiet? You can't just—"

"Enough," Dashiell interrupted, unable to take it anymore. "Anyone who doesn't know would think you're Alaric's wife. Chill out."

"Damn, I'm not gay!" Cassius retorted, exasperated.

But at that moment, everyone glanced at Cecilia.

Compared to Cassius, Cecilia was much calmer.

Clearly, she was Alaric's "wife," and Alaric got hurt because of her. She should be the most emotional one.

"Let's get the patient to the ward first," the medical staff suggested, unable to watch any longer.

This also alleviated Cecilia's moment of awkwardness.

In front of Alaric's friends, she felt somewhat ashamed.

Everyone followed the medical staff to the VIP ward.

The nurse settled Alaric in and gave many instructions before leaving.

After they left, Cassius still couldn't calm down, constantly fussing over Alaric, as if afraid he might suddenly die.

If Cecilia didn't know Alaric was straight, she would have suspected something was going on between them!

Were Alaric and Cassius really that close?

She thought they were just ordinary friends.

They had fun together, causing trouble wherever they went.

Cecilia never imagined their bond was so deep.

"Cecilia," Dashiell suddenly called her.

Cecilia turned around.

Since entering the ward, only Cassius had stayed by Alaric's side, while everyone else, including her, kept a bit of distance.

It wasn't that she didn't want to care for Alaric; she just didn't know how to start.

After all, they had just had a fight before this.

"Come with me for a moment," Dashiell said softly.

Cecilia glanced at Alaric once more before following Dashiell out.

As they left, Alaric on the bed clearly glanced at her.

Outside the ward.

In the quiet hallway late at night.

Dashiell spoke up, "I didn't finish earlier. Let me continue."

"Okay, go ahead," Cecilia nodded.

Dashiell took a deep breath. "Don't take Cassius's words to heart. He's blunt, but he's not a bad guy."

"I know," Cecilia smiled slightly, showing she wasn't bothered by Cassius's earlier comments.

"But Cassius was right. Alaric really did risk his life for you," Dashiell said.

Cecilia looked at him, surprised.

Dashiell continued, "You should know I had a breakup tonight."

Cecilia nodded. She knew he still had feelings for Seraphina.

"Well, it wasn't really a breakup. I just overestimated myself. I couldn't handle seeing Seraphina and Sebastian together, so I left. Alaric and Cassius came with me, and we went to The Astralium Empire to drink. We got your call halfway through," Dashiell explained.

"You might not know, but when Alaric found out you were being chased, his face went pale. Alaric isn't easily rattled. Even when he's mad, you can't tell. But your situation completely broke him. Cassius and I thought something catastrophic had happened when we saw his expression."

"But his emotions only lasted a second before he calmly started planning your rescue, making sure nothing went wrong. You might think he's cold, right? That he doesn't seem worried when talking to you?" Dashiell asked.

Cecilia nodded. "Yes."

Dashiell said, "In fact, every time he talked to you, his hand holding the phone was shaking uncontrollably. I have to tell you the last time his hand shook like that was ten years ago."

"Ten years ago?" Cecilia was surprised.

"That's not the point," Dashiell brushed it off. "The point is, he was really afraid you'd die."

Cecilia bit her lip. She seemed to feel it.

"After arranging everything, Alaric drove like a madman to get to you. At first, Cassius and I didn't understand why he drove alone without us. Cassius even cursed Alaric the whole way. It wasn't until Alaric had the accident that I realized he was prepared to sacrifice himself to save you and didn't want to drag us down."

Cecilia listened, her heart aching. She never wanted Alaric to go this far for her.

"When Cassius and I arrived, we saw Alaric driving his car crazily to crash into the car coming at you. I was shocked by his actions. I knew he liked you, but I didn't expect him to like you this much." Dashiell looked at Cecilia. "I saw the damage on Alaric's and the other car. He really risked his life, driving at such high speed, without hesitation, to save you. If he had hesitated or slowed down even a little, the other car would have crashed into you. If that had happened, the one lying in the hospital bed wouldn't be Alaric, but you!"

Cecilia knew that what he said was true. When she was bracing herself, she heard the sound of the car crash.

That sound was truly terrifying!
